I so should have written this right after watching as I've almost completely forgotten half of it - which obviously means I must watch it again! However-
Poor Ronon! - Is it just me or does Kanaan remind anyone else of Zachary Quinto? Not as hot, but still...- "I'm not getting into a bath with you" Oh go on John, you know you want to! - Ummmm I thought the Wraith couldn't feed on Ronon?! (or maybe they just assumed that was why the Wraith stopped feeding that time?) - ZOMG has Ronon turned evil! - John sheppard belongs on his knees :) - Yay Ronon not evil! - OMG poor Ronon - OMG Rodney in the bath! - Too much bubble bath! - Though he does look adorable with bubbles on his chin!
In summary - a really wonderful ep (and no I'm not just saying that because of happy Rodney nekkid times ;))

Conventions: This one will come as zero surprise to pretty much all of my flist. I adore going to sci-fi conventions. Why?: Meeting the actors of my favourite shows, meeting lots of amazing people with similar interests, meetin up with friends from previous cons, being able to be just as geeky as I want to be, random converations with strangers, dressing up, partying with friends, Jonathan Woodward ...yeah I could go on and on about it!</div>
Drinking vodka: I'm Scottish, what can I say, we like our drink ;). Ok so vodka's more of a Russian drink, but I generally prefer it to our more traditional whiskey. Don't get me wrong, I don't drink it straight - that's foul - but mixed with some diet coke and ice cubes - perfect! (I suspect the proper fancy stuff tastes fine straight, but I'm a cheap skate)</div>
ghosts of albion: Ghosts of Albion started off life as a BBC web animation series written by Amber Benson and Christopher Golden. Since then they have released 2 novels following on from the animations, "Accursed" and "Witchery". What I love about GoA: the gothic theme, the realistic characters, fiesty female characters, magic!, great comic elements, seriously sexy moments and the incredible writing talents of Amber and Chris combined. making cards: I've always been kinda arty, so card making was a hobby I came to pretty naturally. Things I like about it: relaxing, fun, creative, making cards that are perfectly suited to a specific person. What I don't like: spending too much money of materials!, running out of inspiration, making cards for boys - so much harder than making them for girls!

pink: The singer rather than the colour. I really like that she's a bit of a rebel and rather feisty. Her songs are great to sing along to.</div>
snorkeling: I first went snorkeling during my first visit to Hawaii, just before I met Phil. Despite managing to slip on some ricks and smash my face up, it was so amazing that I couldn't help but get addicted... to the snorkeling, not the face smashing. Since that first time Phil and I have been snorkeling pretty much every holiday we've been on where we've had access to the sea. It's so peaceful swimming among the fish and sea turtles. If only I could live in Hawaii and do it every day!

the sims 2: The computer game that has taken over my life. It's actually my dad's fault. He bought me the base game and pets expansion and since then I've collected all the expansion packs bar one. What I love about it: the flexibility, downloading and using custom content, creating custom content (I totally made some Tragic the Saddening cards for my geeky sims), creating my favourite characters from TV shows and playing around with my favourite 'ships, seeing how the genetics work from generation to generation, the supernatural elements (vampires, werewolves, aliens etc), the fact that gay relationships are built into the game (yay for EA!), the silly surreal elements (grilled cheese aspiration, death by flies, the social bunny...), you may be piss poor but your sims can have huge, cool houses....yeah, as you can see I'm pretty damn addicted!

Thanks to all the lovely people who were sympathetic about my hand. Thankfully it's really not that bad. Though it hurt like hell last night, holding a glass of cold water against it a smothering on savlon seems to have done the trick. So the good news is: apparently my reflexes are better than I thought and it's only a very minor surface burn. And the bad news is: I'm a complete and utter wimp ;-).

Did another silly thing this morning. I was trying to adjust the width of the curtains so we can hang then up. You have to tie them at one end before pulling the strings. I umm... might have pulled the wrong end and the strings are now mostly outside the curtain...oops! Never mind, just went out and bought a darning needle so I should be able to fix it.

I decided to indulge in another chick flick last night. Well it does mean that Phil doesn't have to be subjected to them... well not so much anyway. I rented P.S. I Love You and I must say I adored it. I was crying just about the whole way through... yes I am a complete and utter sap. I was so painfully romantic and devastatingly sad, but with lots of comedic relief too. It ended up with a hopeful look to the future without tying things up or forcing a happy romantic ending. To be sure it's undeniably a chick flick, but a damn good one. And James Marsters was in it (not much, but you know still there), nuff said.

Oooh and I won best icon of April in mcshep_icontest. Does happy dance :)

EDIT: Why is it that the rich text editor is so rubbish? I tried to edit the lj-cut text by going directly to the html, but it messed up the cut and I ended up having to cut out a load of guff the rich text editor had put in and put in the html manually *sigh*.

What am I on about? Well it's taken me until um yesterday to actually PROPERLY look at Joe Flanigan's imdb page - i.e. not just drool over the pictures. And what did I learn... I wonderfully own some of the boxsets of series he's been a guest star in - namely Dawson's Creek, Tru Calling and CSI: miami - *headdesk*

I thought I'd start with Dawson's Creek today
Holy mother of God, look what I'd been denying myself because of my stupidity!!!!

Eeeeep so sexy! Now it's been years and years since I watched the series originally and a couple of years since I rewatched on DVD. I do have vague memories of finding the character sexy, but had obviously not made the connection before.

Can't believe I didn't notice the cute pixie ears then :).

You know I'd completely forgotten how much I loved that show. Now don't get all sarcastic on me, I'm allowed my guilty pleasures. I just adored the Pacey/Andie thing in season 2. I can't believe they ruined it just so they could make the Pacey/Joey/Dawson love triangle. Grrr silly TV script writers!

Moving News and the Weekend

So finally, finally, the house has officially sold! We're going to be moving out by the 11th of August into some rented accommodation in Hemel Hempstead. For those of you who don't know where Hemel Hempstead is, it's where this happened:

I still haven't seen the flat, but Phil assures me it's far from the blast zone :). All joking aside, he managed to find a rather nice new flat near the town centre for us to rent for 6 months (apparently the shortest time you can rent there). It's costing a lot more than we hoped to spend and is for longer than we intended, but at least it'll give us plenty of time to find somewhere nice and we'll be a bit more comfortable, with plenty of space. I think we might have to refrain from having a party there though as the rental agent told us of someone losing a > £1000 deposit when they spilled something on a carpet in a similar property. I'll let you all know when I have the new address. </div>
Easter weekend was pretty busy. Our car managed to die with spectacular timing just before the weekend. Phil had to rush out and look for an old banger to tide us over. With the moving and the wedding next year, we thought it best not to spend the money on a decent car. It's kind of sad. I'm not really a car person, but our car was pretty and it kind of lended us an edge of cool. Oh well, maybe in a couple of years time we'll be able to get something a bit prettier and cooler.</div>
Since Phil was able to procure a car, we drove over to Phil's parents on Friday afternoon so we didn't have so far to go to Wembley arena that night. The Xfactor show was undoubtedly cheesy, but a hell of a lot of fun. Pretty much all the less-than-great acts had improved considerably since the TV show. Still, couldn't sit through Futureproof without cringing considerably. Hope seemed to have forgotten their clothes, though they weren't all together dire. Same Difference were amusing to watch, though I still can't help being mildly disturbed when they sang love songs together! For anyone who doesn't know, they're brother and sister. The stars of the show were undoubtedly Nikki and Rhydian. Nikki's definitely gained confidence since the tv show. It was amazing to hear her sing "My Heart Will Go On" and "Total Eclipse of the Heart". Rhydian was, well Rhydian. I don't think they chose the best songs for him to sing. I was disappointed he didn't do "The Phantom of the Opera" or "Somebody to Love", but he was still amazing. Yes I was disappointed that Leon won in the end, but he was really good on stage. The only real gripe I'd have about the whole night was the sound engineers' total lack in ability to get the music levels right. In most cases the music was just too loud and the locals got drowned out. It was most noticeable in the finale where they all sang. Even the strongest voices, Nikki and Rhydian, were being drowned out. Despite that it was a thoroughly enjoyable night.</div>

On Saturday and Sunday Phil and I geeked it out at Eastercon. After years of going to Stafury conventions it was kind of disconcerting going to a con where I knew hardly anyone. I think having CFS makes these social situations about 10x worse. There's the inevitable difficult 'What do you do?' question and generally keeping track of conversations, when your concentration is comparable to that of a goldfish, is challenging. I did manage to meet up with some old friends though, which was great, and even bumped into a girl I'd met at of the BSFA meetups. Ok so it did take me a good few seconds of staring at her for me to remember where I'd seen her before (damn CFS), but she didn't run away so I don't think she thinks I'm a total freak. I did in the end manage to chat to some new people. Thankfully all being SCIFI geeks, there's always common ground. I even managed to find some Rodney McKay fans, much to Phil's surprise (grrrr!).

The talks, panels and other events were generally entertaining. I just managed to avoid being lynched by a group of Torchwood fans over my unpopular views on the show. I have been told that most of the problems I have with the show have been solved in season 2 so I might just give it another go. Phil and some other Astronomers took part in a panel on "The Death of UK Astronomy". Quite a few people agreed to write to their MPs. God knows if it'll make any difference, but I guess generally raising awareness about the problem has got to be a good thing.

I used to think my amazing ability to pick up a cold every time I went to a con, was the fault of one Jonathan M. Woodward and his whisky communions, but alas not. Grrrrr I hate colds! Going to snuggle up in front of the TV now and ~~drool over~~ watch some Stargate Atlantis.

Sorry folks, haven't been on here in ages. I just thought I'd better update you all on the happenings of my life.

I'm sure most of you are aware now... but I got engaged on Christmas eve to my boyfriend Phil. We plan to marry in the summer next year. No date yet as we've only just started looking at venues and are busy just now trying to move...

Which brings me to the next topic. We've accepted an offer on Phil's flat and things seem to be going forward ok, though obviously it's not final until completion. Fingers crossed that'll happen sometime in the next two weeks. If we do indeed sell we're going to be moving into rented accommodation for awhile in Hemel Hempstead. Yes the place where the big explosion happened. Funnily enough house prices are lower there. Since we don't know the area very well we're hoping to scout the place out a bit before buying. Not looking forward to moving (especially twice). I think a lot of you are painfully aware of just how much crap I have. My DVDs alone are going to need a truck all of their own :). I'll let you all know how it turns out. No doubt there'll be a house warming at some point, but that'll be a few months away.

If we are able to move to rented soon, then I'm going to be organising an engagement party in London, prob mid march. I'll let you know once I get more details.

Shiny new computer and life in general

Hi all. Phil just bought us a new computer as my last one imploded (multiple hard drive failure :(). I've since been using a laptop from Phil's work, but it needed to be handed back, hence new computer. If you're a geek here are the specs:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E4400 Processor (2.0GHz,800MHz,2MB cache)
Windows Vista® Home Premium
19" flat panel monitor
256MB ATI radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card
2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
320GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA/100 Hard Drive with 16MB DataBurst™ cache

It's not exactly top of the range but pretty good value and much better than imploded computer. Vista's a bit of a pain in the ass. Annoyingly Nero doesn't work on it unless you've got the latest edition. The computer did come with another Nero like program, but I really can't be bothered learning how to use it. My concentration problems make it a lot harder to use any software I'm not familiar with :(. I've spent the last couple of days transferring all my crap from the backup DVDs and installing games. Now - play time!

In other news, I've just started a CFS self management program (yes the name itself did put me off but one has to try these things!) It runs for 3 hours every friday, starting at 10 in the morning, which means I'm basically a zombie. I'm slowly trying to adjust my screwed up sleeping patterns, but even with medication I'm finding it difficult to sleep at night, which leads to being tired and sleeping in, which leads to sleep reversal... you get the picture! I'm not really sure what to expect from these sessions yet as the first one was mainly introduction and finding out where we were with the condition. The approach is to deal with the perpetuating factors i.e. over- or under- activity (of mind and body), emotions, stress, sleep disturbances etc.

Towards the end of the session we had a relaxation session, which I found utterly useless due to the loud people in the office next door - so annoying! We were also given "homework" - one of those "what do you think was most relevant", "what did you worry about", blah, blah, blah type things. Argh I feel like I'm back at the grad school! Even more annoying are the daily activity sheets we've got to fill in. I really have to fight the urge to be sarcastic: "12pm: filled out this crappy form, 1pm; updated form, 2pm: yet more monotony...". I do know they serve a purpose, but you have no idea how annoying it is having to log everything you do. It doesn't half bring home how crappily boring your life is too: "got up, had breakfast, emails, facebook and LJ, played on computer, searched internet... blah blah blah." I know they're going to say I spend too much time on the computer and don't rest my brain enough, but I get so bored otherwise! Apparently watching Tv doesn't even count as resting your brain. I beg to differ. Daytime TV = mind numbing. Though I suppose that = frustration = brain hurts.

I'm having a truely shitty day. My computer has died (using Phil's spare work laptop) and the bank are being crap about changing my account back to a student one. Aparently the problem is that student accounts can't last more than 5 years. So if you've got special circumstances like me you're screwed! Trying to explain everything was a nightmare as well since my brainfog was pretty much at it's highest level - probably due to the computer problems stress. In fact it's so bad I can't explain everything here but I just needed an outlet!

Ok oops haven't updated about Santorini or Phil's brother's wedding . I spend so much time reading my friends page that I don't have any time or energy to post myself. Well that'll teach me for joining a very active and interesting community! Anyway just thought I'd pop in and mention I'm going to be in Glasgow very briefly at the end of this week for my sister's hen night. I'm not going to have a chance to go out properly but I will pop into the deparment around coffee time. Hopefully see some of you then!

In other news. I now have the new pokemon game - yay!!!! That'll keep me entertained on the long train journey

Just had to celebrate! One of my hardrives died ages ago taking all my damn art packages to the grave with it. I was going to wait until I opened up the 'puter and put in a new hardrive to get them back. There are a few problems with that:
1. I'm a lazy cow
2. I'm skint
3. The damn computer is too heavy for me to lift myself (damn M.E.) ....
Thus I've been living with crappy pain for ages. Today I decided to sod it . There's not a huge amount of space left on hardrive but to hell with it. I've got Photo-Paint back!!!!!!!!!! I think I'll wait to get back Photo Shop as I tend to use Photo-Paint more often away.

I'm sorry I've been utterly hopeless at updating my journal and in fact this is gpoing to be a fairly short post but I'll try to add more at a leter date. So a little while ago I was away for a holiday in Santorini, Greece. Phil had a conference over there so I decided to join him and have a nice holiday.

Due to olympic airlines being utterly hopeless our original flight to Athens was cancelled. We arranged for a later flight but it meant missing our connection and spending the night in Athens at a hotel. In addition to this annoyance they hadn't booked the wheelchair we'd asked for and they couldn't get one until just before our flight.

Inevitably our flight was delayed including an hour and a half sitting on the tarmac (thank god for Sudoku is all I can say)! This additional delay meant we wouldn't have time to get a hotel in Athens and would have to sleep at the airport - oh joy of joys!

I just can't sleep in airports so instead we went to the pub and settled down with a few glasses of wine. At least they were better with the wheelchairs and I had one for the whole time I was there. It was kind of awkward as they couldn't wheel me about the whole time so I had to wheel myself a bit (Phil had to dela with the luggage - long story!). It was quite fun though my arms suffer from fatigue almost as much as my legs so very tiring. We thnakfully had someone to wheel me the long distance through security then Phil could take me to the gate. One benefit of the wheel chair - no waiting in long queues at security - yay!</div>

When we eventually arrived at our hotel in Santorini we ended up sleeping most of the day away. Thankfully our room and our hotel were lovely. We stayed in the hotel Reverie. I seriously recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay in Santorini. Ok so the pool is small, bu the place is well maintained, you actually get a proper double bed (not common on the Greek islands!) and the family who ran the place were so friendly and helpful. There was I nice communual area at the top of the building with views over the caldera.

Sorry I've been so lazy with this LJ. I promise I do come on here and read my friends page, I'm just a bit slow with the updates myself. Probably something to do with not actually doing anything! So the weirdest thing... I've been back home with my parents for a week and a bit since Phil's been at a conference in Brazil (lucky bugger) and my dad was just flicking on the tv for something to watch before we went to bed. (6am start the next day - arggh so tired!). He settled on paramount comedy which was showing a Stewart Lee Standup show. It looked familiar, sounded familiar. I soon realised it was that show that some of us went to in Glasgow a couple of years ago. First I saw wee_n_sarcastic in the background then myself and nimoloth's hair. There was also a close up of Jen laughing later on. My dad's sky plus'd it as we had to go to bed. If anyone wants a copy let me know :)

I might be on tomorrow but after that I won't be on for awhile as I'm away to Santorini, in Greece, for a Phil conference, me holiday. I'll let you know what it was like when I get back and hopefully post some pics.

Ok it seems like Thursday's best for most people so we'll make it then :) I'll prob be around in the department a little before hand, then we can head across to Bar Buddha on cresswell lane. They do some really nice food there at pretty decent prices. If course you can meet us there later if you like. I'll probably be there around 6pm.
