more sad news
We just got the word that James' grandpa was being rushed to the hospital. According to his dad, it doesn't look like he is going to make it. He seemed to be doing much better, according to what James heard just last week. Apparently, something went wrong and as of right now, they still aren't sure what that is. I love his grandpa, and wish I could have seen him more recently then I have. James has his FE (Fundementals of Engineering) exam tomorrow from 8 AM until about 4 or 5 PM. He has to take this test to graduate, and he has paid $100 to take it. He cannot reschedule so late in the game. So we are staying here tonight. We had plans to go up to St. Louis tomorrow and go shopping for my graduation dress, and possibly go to the casino. James says we still can, but I feel bad. I mean, if we are in St. Louis, we should visit with his family and be there for them, not out having a good time on the town. This is the last weekend James and I have together though until I graduate too. James hides it, but I know how much this upsets him. He has talkd to me abou how worried he is about his grandparents, and I always am up to visiting them. Like I said, I really like his grandparents. If it came down to it, I would much rather spend an afternoon with his grandparents then with either his mom or his dad.
Onto other news. James needs a calculator for tomorrows test. He cannot use his TI-89 because they only allow four calculators. James put off buying the calculator until the night before the test, when over 4000 people in the area are taking the test, over 1000 just in our small town. We went to our Wal-Mart, they were sold out since sometime last week. So we called every local Wal-Mart, the ones within a half an hour to an hour away. Only one store, the one in Jefferson City, had the TI one that was on the list. James did not feel comfortable using the other 2, and the other TI wasn't as good he said. We were going to drive all the way to Jefferson City tonight when James called his dad, since he thought maybe he would be coming from St. Louis (luckily no tests are being given in St. Louis), to the Lake to work. His dad was already at the Lake, but getting ready to head back to James grandpa getting sick. So he is bringing one from Osage Beach MO, and we are meeting him somewhere at 11 PM to pick it up. A lot of work for a $18 calculator.
My friend who lost her dad last week was back in town yesterday. However, she is having such a hard time, she has worked it out where she will complete her last two weeks of homework at home in Michigan and she is leaving on Monday to be back with her family. She is coming back finals week, and also to graduate. Right before her father died, she told me that her sister and her saved up to buy her mom a plane ticket to see her graduation (they are somewhat poor), and she was going to have a blast showing her mom around campus, and take her to St. Louis to show her where she got her job (she accepted a great job with AT&T Wireless, where she interned for last summer). It puts a damper on it now, but she said her mom is still coming down. She said she would probably have not participated in graduation if it weren't for that and that she had to come back for finals anyway. So very sad :( It is such a happy time for her, graduation wise, and then something tragic had to happen. I gave her a card today and told her we are there for her. She almost cried. She said she laid in bed for 5 hours today, tried driving to class and just couldn't go. Poor girl.
Ok, this is long and depressing. I am going to end it now, I just need something to keep me busy for 10 more minutes or so.
