Meeting my family at the hospital

My mom just called while I was on my way back home from campus. She starts out by saying "We have a bit of a problem, but don't panic." Geez, how can I not when you say that? Then she states they are coming up to go to the hospital. Of course, I freak out!

This is rather traumatic. My sister was visiting a friend, getting ready to leave I believe, with her 3 year old son, Tyler, in the van. Tyler accidently shifted the van into gear, ran over my sisters legs and ran into a tree. It was going straight downhill towards a lake. My 9 year old niece, Megan, tried to get Tyler out of the van and was drug.

Everyone is ok, but they are heading up to the hospital anyway. My sister can still walk, and she swears she just has some cuts and bruises (how she didn't break her legs with a huge van running over them, I have no clue.) Tyler is acting sleepy, so they want to make sure he didn't hit his head. Megan just has scratches.

Now, before people go off on my sister, I believe this is probably what happened, because this is what she normally does. She put Tyler in his seat, buckled him up, then was heading to get into the drivers side of the van. He probably unbuckled himself, since he is old enough to know how to do it quickly, and while she was either in front of back of the van, he hit the gear shifter. It just happened, we are going to be meeting them at the hospital when they get there, they are going to call us, but they had no time to give me complete details.

I am just glad everyone is ok most likely. This could have turned out much worse. It also amazes me that Megan even thought to try to jump into the van to try and save her brother. How many 9 year olds think on their feet like that? Then again, it could have killed her, so thank god she was only scratched!

I am so worried about my family. Freak accidents seem to follow them. Just a few months ago they were almost killed when a concrete truck behind them wasn't paying attention and nearly hit their car as they were turning into their driveway, which is off a highway. The guy took the ditch instead and ended up practically scalping himself, but surviving. It is no wonder I have an anxiety disorder worrying about them all the time.
