no sleep for me. A rant
It is 3:30 in the fucking morning. I am not asleep. Why? My throat is so painful, there is no way I can sleep. I went to student health, and lucky me, got the one doctor who is always wrong when it comes to me or my friends. She is wrong because she doesn't listen to your symptoms and just tells you it is a virus no matter what, and sends you on your way with motrin. That is exactly what she did and I knew she would do it too. I have had strep throat 101 times. I know what it feels like. This is it, and a severe case of it too. Sure, it can go away on its own, but it will be a painful experience. I am a storng person too. I am the type of person who can get sick and go to work, school, anything and be ok. I can deal with some pain too. This is killer though. I just want to cry. It is so bad, that even the back of my mouth hurts with it and I yawned last night, and it caused so much pain, I thought I would pass out. It sucks not having health insurance to go to a real doctor or even the hospital at this point. I cannot afford to miss classes, but I cannot sleep either. I am sipping on some hot water. I would normally have tea with it, but have no caffeine-free varieties. I have taken her damn cough medicine too. No relief. At least James and my family got codeine to put them out of their misery, I get childrens cough syrup that doesn't do a damn thing. It hasn't even helped me sleep as I had hoped. I have also tried gurgling salt water, as they suggested. It didn't help even after I drank the damn stuff. I am desperate. I only have some yummy cough drops, usually those work, but they ar elike candy now. I need some hard core ones that burn probably, but I have no urge to go to Wal-Mart by myself at this time of night.
James went to this same doctor last week. She sent him home with cough syrup (non-codeine) and he ended up going to the hospital the next day, it got so bad, and they gave him antibiotics and codeine cough medicine. My whole family also had this and their doctors also believed they needed antibiotics and codeine (same kind of both too). She did not even take 5 minutes to listen to me. She came in, said my throat did not look bad (I have looked at it too, it is bright red with white spots on it, how is that not bad?), looked in my ears and listened to my lungs. Sure, my back hurt, but it was my lower back, I have no reason to believe this went into my lungs afterall. She confirmed that as well. Gee, thanks.
Looks like a sleepless night for me. It hurts to swallow, but for some reason, I cannot fight the urge to swallow because it feels like stuff is stuck in my throat from the swelling. It sucks. I will probaby miss most of my classes tomorrow (I cannot miss History, she is already working with me on taking a makeup test from Thursday when I was up with James). I will probably go back to student health, praying that another doctor is on duty.
Damn you student health. No wonder everyone refers to you as student death. End of my rant now.
