First of all, thanks to everyone who responded on my last post. I need to get back to the comments, I have just been going almost nonstop. Kevin ran to do some grocery shopping for me. He's making me spaghetti for the week so I don't starve or live off gross fast food any longer.

You know he's a keeper when he joins me on the floor. We are taking every precaution for her. We have disabled the couch so she can't climb up on it or jump off it (when she feels good, she jumps off the furniture). We have kept the cat closed off on the bedroom since Annabelle likes to chase her. We are keeping her out of the bedroom so again, no jumping on the bed or jumping off of it. Friday night was bad. I had both animals shut in the bedroom with me, but because Annabelle has so much pent up energy, she kept jumping off the bed, landing with both paws on the floor and chasing the cat.

So I'll be sleeping on the living room floor for a week or two. I have the couch cushions on the floor and since I can practically sleep anywhere, I had no issues. It was likely the best sleep I've had in a bit since I wasn't worried about her messing with the cat or jumping off something.

The vet came up with a modified wrap. It wraps the top, but leaves the bottom exposed. Trust me, it's gross to look at. I don't get squeamish, but because it's my puppy dog and it looks painful, it bothers me to look at. Her drains are two plastic tubes sticking out of the suture which drains stuff that I'll spare the details about. It's not as bad as it was because we have kept her calm. Most of my day and night is spent keeping her calm. She's sedated, but even with that she can get excited and hop around.

So there is the modified bandage, but even still... she can lick the bottom so I keep an eye on her constantly. When we slept, I put the cone on her and realized she could still get to the tip of her foot if she situated herself just right. So I cut the tip off a sock and taped that on (the vet suggested it so I feel comfortable doing that).

We are taking every possible precaution here, so let's hope it works. She's still a big dog and putting a lot of weight on the sutures... There's risks just in her walking to go potty.

The vet is giving me a discount on watching her every day. It's $11 instead of $22. She's also giving me a discount on the antibiotic injections we have added to Annabelle's care.

See, when she came back from vacation and went over the bacterial cultures with me, she mentioned that they found a very resistant strain of Psuedomonas. She originally said that she didn't think this bacteria was causing the flesh-eating, but when I Google it, I come across medical journals written by doctors telling of cases where it caused flesh-eating in humans. In fact, it's one of the more common ones causing problems right now in other parts of the country. It's slightly effected by the Baytril, but there were two rare antibiotics that it was very sensitive to. One if $10 a pill (and like on Baytril, Annabelle would need three pills a day most likely) and she can't find that at any vet office whatsoever. She did have the injectable version. She debated for a bit and decided to give me the discount and work out a way I can get it done on Sunday as well. So we've added her a daily injection of the antibiotic that the version of Psuedomonas that's attacked her is the most susceptible to. We should be in good shape.

My hope is that it is the flesh-eating bacteria and we have a handle on it now, that our worries are no more. Well except for her ripping those sutures out or getting it infected another way. The next two weeks will be 24/7 supervision for Miss Annabelle and still hoping we do it all right.

The antibiotic injection is $15 a day (she may want to keep her on it for 21 days) and the day boarding is $11 a day and she doesn't want her left unattended until the sutures come out. The vet bills just keep on coming...

I'm going to go lay down with my puppy dog for a bit, but I wanted to give a little update on how she's doing. We will get the drains removed tomorrow and the doctor can give more insight into rather keeping her calm like this is helping at all. Let's hope things look better :)
