I could use some career advice.

Okay, so in my job, I'm an analyst, admin and sometime receptionist. When the volume of business was slow, this was fine. But things picked up and it's insane. On top of that, I'm not put in charge of all signage, furniture (for leading offices, lobbies, models and the pool), and fitness equipment. These are very timely things which require my full attention. That with my analyst duties (which I can't complete most of them anyway) is a full time job without the admin stuff. The admin stuff is a full time job too.

They recently hired someone to help the construction admin who was in the same situation. We work on the same deals, so when she's busy, I'm busy. They split the job. They made our office bigger as of April to accommodate these new people, I'll be alone in my corner of the office, empty desks all around.

When I mentioned to my boss a few weeks ago about being too busy, he said that H and Evil One used to do it. Though the next day, Evil One made a comment how the contract process has gotten much more. complex than when she had my job. Yesterday, H suggested they needed to hire someone to help me. She didn't have to deal with signage, furniture or fitness equipment, much less the analyst stuff. So my boss was wrong, they didn't do what I'm doing. The office manager and H, and even the design manager from corporate, mentioned splitting my job. The office manager and H thinks they are ridiculous to think I can handle all this. It's reassuring to know that it's not just me.

They told me to talk to my boss again. I'm scared of coming off as not being competent and thus looking bad. I do think there is enough evidence to split my job, but can I go about requesting this and not appear like I just can't handle it? He knows I'm overwhelmed, he's shopping comps today because I can't. He's having others do pricing analysis I can't.

Any tips on how to bring this up? Should I? I've been told you have to ask for opportunities, but what if he says no? Could it hurt me in the long run? If he says no, I continue with the job search. I need more money anyway. I just feel like if I have to stay here, I should at least suggest possible improvements. I'm a bit shy, especially when admitting I need help or asking for something. I'm so scared to lose this job, I kind of just deal with stuff and take a lot of crap... But my boss said I need to be more proactive...

What do you guys think?
