Thankful Post: Day Two
Since I bought my tickets to visit family for the holidays, I think I owe today's post to them.
I considered separating them all out in different posts since I am thankful for every single one of them... But that might be considered cheating since I have such a large family :P
I consider myself very blessed. I often hear of people who have bad relationships within their immediate families. Kids that have issues with their parents. parents that never have anything to do with their kids... or even abuse and neglect.
I got lucky.
My family isn't perfect, not by far. But the one thing I can certainly say is that we stick together and we love each other through it all. No one goes out of their way to hurt another person, we all love spending time together and i didn't grow up with any issues because of my parents. My mom never made me feel as if I wasn't good enough, in fact... she raised me to be confident and independent. She supported me in everything I wanted to do, and right now, supports my brother in his dreams to succeed too.
My siblings are great. I have an older sister who's such a loving mother, you'd never guess she was a teenager when her first daughter was born. She's always bee there for her kids every step of that way. It's great to see that dedication, and her kids love her back (and grew up very well adjusted regardless of how young she was when she had them and for being in an abusive relationship for much of her young life).
My brother is a prodigy at everything he does. He's one of the smartest kids I know, he's a ridiculously talented athlete (parkour, self taught in gymnastics and trust me, he's good and even getting recognized by the big leagues). While being smart and athletic seems good enough... the kids is super talented at music as well. He taught himself piano and can play everything Beethoven to Linkin Park with ease. I am telling you, the kids is awesome. And he's a great kid too. I couldn't ask for a better brother.
My nieces, Samantha and Megan, are wonderful girls. They are beautiful, sweet, smart, and so very strong. They will succeed in life, I know they will. They will fight against the adversity of coming from a poor family and do well. Samantha is already taking college classes, and I know she will do well there. She's a fighter. Megan is still in middle school, but she is so smart and sweet. I could seriously spend so much time with these girls, they are such great girls.
And last but not least, the youngster of the bunch... my nephew, Tyler. He's a precocious little guy, so unique and so smart. He amazes me with the things he can come up with and blows me away with his smarts. He is so sweet, loves animals so much that he had a pet snapping turtle until I convinced him to trade it in for some hermit crabs. He carried those babies around with him every where... and still cried when they released the snapping turtle back in the wild. He has a heart of gold and is never afraid to say that he loves you.
I miss them so much. As anyone who's been a long time friend of mine knows, I am close to my family. They are my world. I hate being so far away from them. I really do... but in the end, everything I ultimately try to do is to help them... My goal in life is to still be successful enough to put them in a comfortable home somewhere and make sure they have a better life because they deserve it.
They are amazing people and trust me, if you met them, you'd love them too. And chances are, my mom would try and "adopt" you in the family. She always wanted a large family with lots of kids, and she's more than happy to invite people in for the holidays and whatnot. We are a crazy and unique bunch of people, often laughing so hard it hurts once we all get together. We all have a pretty unique sense of humor and we always have fun when together, be it playing board games or having random little dance parties at 4 AM in my sisters living room.
I can say without a doubt that there is no other family like mine... And I wouldn't have it any other way :)
