I have been wanting to do this all week, but better late than never, huh? I talked this over with joeymichaels earlier in the week and decided I wanted to write a rec list this week. But not any old rec list. I think every piece this week is worth a read, and I think there's lots of good stuff for all different tastes.
So I am going to rec everything. And honestly, people, you don't have to be a member of therealljidol to read or vote. Heck, some of these people would love it if you just read and commented. We all love feedback after all, and honestly, don't be shy about commenting on a strangers post...all of these people post publicly to get the PUBLIC to read. That means YOU are free to read and comment regardless of where you are on the Idol spectrum.
This group seriously is great. It's not always just a popularity contest, and believe it or not, we build camaraderie over here. Want to make new friends and have stuff to read? Join therealljidol! Seriously, I can't describe how awesome it's been and how many amazing people I have met through here. I have met several in RL and will meet more in RL soon I hope.
So even if you aren't a writer but like to read stuff on LJ, stop by. It's non-fiction, fiction, anything you can think of over here! And people are seriously nice and supportive if you do decide to give the Home Game (where you post without being a contestant) a whirl! There's even a Free topic I posted about recently that you should try your hand at if you want to get your feet wet.
I seriously love this place and want more people to discover the awesomeness for themselves.
So read these entries, or skim through the ones that catch your interest. There's bound to be something to catch your eye. And remember, these people are writing for YOU to read and vote for if you find that you like them, so if you wouldn't mind doing that, I am sure they would appreciate the support.
Don't mind the lack of HTML. I am kinda pressed for time and honestly, HTML linking always gives me a hard time :P
alephz is a writer with often very unique ideas. He brings a lot to the table with his brain twisting stories, as well as his non-fiction that always gets you thinking. He seriously has fun writing and it shows in his entries.
His entry this week really twisted my brain. Fiction? Non-fiction? A really unique mixing of the two? That's more like it...
amenquohi writes both fiction and non-fiction like a pro. Her work is polished and very strong no matter what she takes on. Her stories always capture my attention and I am really a fan of her non-fiction especially.
This week was a non-fiction piece that I really connected with. A story about the her love of the ocean.
applespicy is a friend I added earlier in the season. She writes mostly fiction and she writes it beautifully, with such wonderful language and stories that are usually dark in nature. But trust me, they totally suck you in.
Here entry can be found here. This week, it's a comedic approach to a very famous Bible story.
comedychick is my Idol BFF. I love this girl to bits and hope to meet her come October if all goes well. She always takes a unique approach to the topic. She writes screenplays, which she is very skilled at. She write emotional non-fiction really well. She writes hilarious stories as her name implies. She's a quirky gal and an absolute sweetheart.
Her entry this week actually mentions me in it. So you should check it out. I play a small role in her entry (which is non-fiction about her inability to read things that don't hold her attention).
Oh my java_fiend...We all know about him. He writes amazing creepy fiction and horror stories. It's one of the things that attracted me to him in the first place. I love horror stories. He writes wonderful non-fiction too when he does it. And while it's been awhile, his rants are always great and sometimes super funny!
His entry this week is a story he mentioned to me and I loved right away. It's a fiction piece about some ghost hunters that get a little more than they bargained for.
joeymichaels is a brilliant writer of the most unique and twisted things I have read. His ideas are uniquely his, and you never know what to expect from him. It's always a fun time reading one of his stories.
This week, he tells a sad tale of a woman who loses her husband, but it wouldn't be a Joey piece without a unique twist on a classic tale, so of course it's not your typical sappy, sad tale. But it is very heartfelt while being different.
lawchicky Writes both fiction and non-fiction and she is great at either one. Her stories are often unique and fun. Her non-fiction ranges, sometimes it's a fun story, sometimes it's deeper than that. Either way, she always writes from the heart.
Her entry this week is a non-fiction tale of a philosophy professor she had in college.
mstrobel is also one of my favorite people on a personal level. She's a good friend of mine who's fun to mud wrestle for (hey, looks like I won since I have java_fiend, huh? :P). She's a fun gal who writes beautiful prose, She writes fictionalized fiction, usually in the form of a fairy tale. But you can bet a lot of what she writes has some backing in something true. She just presents it beautifully.
Her entry this week is a story about a girl who likes to people watch.
hosticle_fifer writes both fiction and non-fiction. He writes a lot of humorous pieces, which always make me laugh. He portrays real life in a way people can really see and feel it, and feel as if they experienced it too.
This week, he went with a creepy, ghost story, which is always a good thing if you're like me!
Then we have serpentpixie who brings an eclectic feel to Idol. She plays with videos, with pictures, and has written a variety of things from fiction to non-fiction. She's a fun girl too from the sounds of it, and she's certainly very creative!
This week, she wrote a fictional story with a video that goes along with it.
the_vernacular writes mostly fiction. I always find her tales to be whimsical and fun, and always something totally unique and different. I have fun reading her stuff, and think others would too. Her comics are always great, she's very talented there. But her writing is also really stunning too.
This week, her piece was a complex mystery and I will be honest, it had me stumped and confused (which is pretty easy to do honestly). Think you could figure it out?
vaguelyclear writes a mix of fiction and non-fiction. I love some of her darker stories, and the series she sort of played around with is great. I think she's very talented and I am happy to say, she's a recent addition to my friends list and someone I look forward to getting to know more!
This week, we could have intersected since her tale is about her dad and how she doesn't want to turn out just like him.
Last but not least, we have yachiru. Her writing is also very unique. She tells a story well and I still can't stop laughing about her WoW story from a couple weeks ago. I LOVED that entry. She can come up with some very creative ideas, and some very twisted ones (like a poem about cannibals that was bordering on...romantic?).
This week, she wrote another dark and twisty fictional piece.
