What Picmal actually does

Convert, compress, and resize media files. Everything runs on your Mac, nothing touches a server.

Convert between multiple formats

Turn a PSD into a PNG, an AI file into SVG, a MOV into MP4. Pick the output format and go.

You can also convert and compress in one go.

Batch processing

Drop hundreds of files at once. Drag them in, use File > Open, or right-click in Finder. No need to feed them one by one.

Right click menu integration

Presets for the usual stuff. Full control for the rest.

Built-in presets for web, social media, archival. If you want to get specific, tweak color space, resize, codecs, bitrates.

Custom presets interface

Shrink file sizes without visible quality loss

Same format, smaller file. Shrink photos before uploading or get a video under the email attachment limit.

Designed for Mac

Lightweight, plays nice with Finder, Quick Actions, and Shortcuts.

Works offline

Works on a plane, at a café with terrible Wi-Fi, or when your connection just dies.

Privacy first

Your files stay on your Mac. Nothing gets uploaded anywhere.

"Everything works as expected - great app!"

Anthony Nguyen, Picmal user Anthony Nguyen

"Wonderfully simple app! I struggled with converting my images from one format to another constantly with online free tools. Picmal makes it effortless. Worth the money to avoid the hassle for sure!"

River Sloane, Picmal user River Sloane

"You did a great job here! I like how easy Picmal is to use, and the frequent upgrades show that you are very committed to improving this beautiful software."

Gianluca Savini, Picmal user Gianluca Savini

"It's a Mac-assed Mac App. Focused, customizable, flexible, well designed and super fast. 10+ times a day I need to convert a file for use on a website. Picmal makes that process a joy. My favorite conversion is taking a multipage PDF and converting each page to an individual image with one click (something even Preview can't do). "

Rob H, Picmal user Rob H

"I f* love this app. Just so you know. Keep building!"

Alessandro Bonini, Picmal user Alessandro Bonini

"I like the interface. I like the batch processing. I like the fact in the I can set default conversions. I like your program a lot."

Charles Willson, Picmal user Charles Willson

"I like the quality of the image processing. It also supports all the important image files. But it still needs some work regarding both the UI and the UX design of it."

Yiannis, Picmal user Yiannis

"I love how Picmal's made compressing videos a frictionless, easy and straightforward."

George, Picmal user George

"It's simple to use and does everything I need it to do. Hell, it does much more than I need and the developer keeps adding features :) "

Adam L, Picmal user Adam L

"I love the app! I use it 4-5 days a week for audio and image conversion as I tag and add missing album artwork to my library of 70,000 songs. After that is done, I would like to try it out with my Blu-ray collection on Plex. I truly appreciate the hard work that goes into creating and frequently updating an app such as this. All the best!"

Is there a free trial?

No free trial. You can download and install the app to look around, but you need a license to actually use it. There's a 14-day money-back guarantee, so if it's not for you, email support@picmal.app for a full refund.

Do I need to buy a license to use Picmal?

Yes. The download is free, but you need a license key to activate it. Once you buy, it's yours — no recurring fees, no expiration.

Is Picmal available for Windows or Linux?

Mac only. No plans to change that.

What formats does Picmal support?

Over 100. On the image side: JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, PSD, RAW, SVG, PDF, and more. Video: MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WebM, and others. Audio: MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, OPUS, plus a bunch more.

Can I resize images in Picmal?

Yes. Five modes: by percentage, fixed width, fixed height, max dimensions, or exact dimensions. You can resize, convert, and compress in one pass.

Can I compress videos and audio files?

Yes. Images compress in JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG, TIFF, HEIC, AVIF, and PDF. Videos use H.264, audio uses AAC. You control the quality slider so you decide the tradeoff between size and fidelity.

Yes. Drag in a pile of files or whole folders and convert them all at once. Each file shows its own progress so you can see what's happening.

Can I compress without converting?

Yes. Pick compression, adjust the quality slider, and the file stays in its original format — just smaller.

Can I remove metadata from my files?

Yes. Picmal strips metadata from images — GPS coordinates, camera info, timestamps, all of it. Smaller files, less data floating around.

What macOS versions are supported?

macOS Sonoma (14.0) or later. Runs natively on Apple Silicon and works fine on Intel Macs too.

Do I need an internet connection to use Picmal?

Not after you install it. Picmal runs entirely offline.
