Everyone decided to drive to school today (or atleast it seemed that way). I came back after my mentoring first hour and I couldn't find a spot; not even in the farthest row where I always park and there are always spots. Luckily, I left mentoring a little early. I drove all around, and finally executed an illegal maneuver -- I parked at the end of one of the staff rows. They have way too many staff spaces anyway...and no one noticed. It's insane. They have like 30 spaces of "student reserved parking" where you pay $10/month, and only like ten are ever in use. 'Tis a waste, I say. I would have taken one of the reserved spaces, but that would have been much more noticeable as they are closest to the building. I didn't want to get fined, thank you.
I watched Sense and Sensibility (1995) last night.
It was on TCM, and as I had not yet seen it and it looked good, I took the opportunity. Lovely film. Really, very lovely. My mother enjoyed it too (of course), but was disappointed because "They didn't show the proposals and there was no kissing." None at all. My mother likes the occasional chaste kiss in movies (if the moment calls for it), but does not care for the modern, "I'm eating you alive!" kisses. I do believe I share her view.
Who loved Palmer? Heh. Great character. I especially loved how he smoothed his paper after his wife crinkled it up. And when he was holding the baby. lol. Speaking of which, what was with the baby? Was someone pregnant without my knowledge? It is entirely possible, I suppose. I can see it now: 'Dear Charlotte springs them out in one day! It's simply amazing. I don't know how she does it.'
The moment Alan Rickman appeared on screen:
Me: *in total surprise* Ha! It's Snape.
Mom: Really?
Me: Yep.
Later:
Mom: He did really very well.
Me: Yep. He plays good guys too.
Mom: He looked rather nice as a blonde.
Me: I don't remember my reaction - some sort of mumble or nod, I suppose. My mom is always trying (or it could be my paranoia) to get me to respond favorable toward males in movies. If I like them, I say nothing. If I don't like them, I say nothing. The poor dear.
Mom: I wonder if he's blonde naturally.
Me: *shrug* I have no idea. [thinking]Although if he was, I doubt he is now...he's like 60, after all.[/thinking]
Afterward, Robert O. mentioned, "If you're a Harry Potter fan, you may have noticed Cornelius Fudge."
Me: *sputter* What?! What about Alan and Emma? Cornelius's appearance was like 5 minutes total in 4 films. Snape is in all of them! And Emma had a reasonable role...
Mom: *makes appalled noises of agreement*
Rob, you just lowered a notch in my book. Cornelius Fudge. Pah. Who writes his stuff? Idiots.
Whenever I see a particularly influential film, I tend to speak in my head like the characters for days afterward. And so it was that as I moved through school today thoughts like: "Oh, it is too dreadful, the poor child." complete with accents, popped in my mind.
On another note, I rented Pride & Prejudice (the new one) about 15 minutes ago. I was planning on doing so before I noticed S&S was on, and I thought it was amazing timing. Two Jane Austen novels-turned-movies in two days for $3.18. Fantastic. I can feel icon-making in the wind. :D
