Canon: Thundercats (2011 series)
Character: Wilykat
Timeline: Post episode 13

Personality: Being eight years old in a world of adults isn't always easy. Being eight years old and orphaned in said world isn't any better, especially if you have no home to call your own. Regardless of this, Wilykat and his twin sister, Wilykit, have adapted well to their environment. Living on the streets has taught them quite a bit in the way of survival, even at their young age.

Kat, first and foremost, is a manipulative little thing. As he and Kit have no parents, they have to scavenge and steal to survive. They have been doing it for a long time, and they're incredibly good at it, to the level of being able to pick the lock on a temple door thousands of years old without any difficulty. But in order to steal, Kat has to be cunning, and his age comes in handy. He uses his naturally cute kitten looks to trick those around him into dropping their guard, leaving things open to do what he needs, whether that be taking some money for food or something else. If the kitten act doesn't work, usually a little bit of teamwork with Kit's hypnotizing flute music will do the trick. And if that doesn't work... well, he'll just try to take it anyway. It's how they survive on the streets, and the Wilys are nothing if not tenacious. They never steal from someone that is in need, though - only from those that can afford the loss.

Though they don't actively go looking for trouble, trouble inevitably finds them. Kat isn't one to go with confrontation - he honestly would rather avoid the issue if he can. After all, he's a thief, not a warrior. But if there is a good reason to fight, or if he's instructed to do it by whomever is in charge, he will. Whereas Kit prefers to hold back, Kat has no problem in charging into a fight with gusto when he does get involved, but admittedly, it has to take a lot to catch his interest. If they're fighting for the underdog? You bet he'll be there. He also knows better than to stay in a situation that won't end well, so if his tail is in danger, he'll double back and rethink the situation.

Although Wilykat and Wilykit are twins, Kat definitely takes on the role of older brother. He's often the one to lead Kit, sometimes in actions or words rather than physically being in front. When Thundera was attacked, he led her out of harm's way with a hand on her shoulder, and when Kit mentioned that going back to see the Elephants felt like going back home, he was quick to remind her that, as soon as they found it, their real home would be the legendary treasure city of El-Dara, a city where no one was unhappy or wanting for anything. When the situation is or has the potential to be dangerous, he doesn't hesitate to take the lead. Protecting Kit is his priority, over all else.

When it boils down to it, though, Kat is really exactly what he appears to be: an eight year old kid. Though he puts on a confident and sometimes cocky facade, he can easily pick up on the emotions of those around him. He's not immune to tearing up or flat out crying when something legitimately upsets or scares him, as is shown when one of the Petalars dies, and when he seriously thinks he's about to be killed while defending the Elephants' hut from Grune and his forces. His intense curiosity, too, is a rather kittenish behavior - if possible, he will not hesitate to spy on others just to see what they're doing, and he doesn't hold back in teasing if he sees something embarrassing, like when he caught Lion-o in an embarrassing moment with Cheetara. Teasing, playing games and generally goofing off seem to be an important part of Kat - he often teases Kit into doing something like kissing a frog, or plays tricks on Snarf to scare him. That, along with his childlike optimism, helps him to keep from thinking about just how bad their lives really could be.

Background: Not much is known about Wilykit and Wilykat's lives before canon begins. They lived with - at the very least - their mother until she died, leaving them nothing but a lullaby to remember her by. Their tails alone prove that the Wilys are of a low status, and that they likely were born and grew up in the slums of Thundera. Tails are shown as being a sign of not evolving, and only the lower classes of Cats still have them. After their mother died, they were left to their own devices, forced to steal in order to survive. No one would take in a pair of low- class kittens.

Near the begining of canon, the city of Thundera is attacked by the Lizards. The twins manage to narrowly escape being blown to smithereens, proving that their idea to escape the city rather than bunker down inside the castle was a smart one indeed. Finding shelter for the night, they spend the next day sorting through the rubble, scavenging what they can find while avoiding being caught by the looting Lizard army. Outside the city, they run into Lion-O, Tygra and Cheetara, who are on their way to search for the Book of Omens. Immediately recognizing him, they beg to tag along until they can find the city of El-Dara. Lion-O steadfastly refuses time after time, claiming that he has no time to be babysitting. But even after that rejection, the kittens still tag along behind them, insisting, "We're not following you. You're just walking in front of us."

After travelling through a desert, the group comes across an expansive sand-sea. Starving, they are tricked by a set-up of food and are subsequently trapped by a crew of Koi sailors. They are tied up and are just about to be eaten when the Ramlak, a giant plant-squid that lives within the sand-sea, attacks the ship. In the confusion, the group breaks free, fighting off the creature and forcing it to retreat. In reward, the captain lets them go free; the chef, however, still has plans to eat the kittens, at the very least. While things are handled above deck, the chef feeds the kittens below in the galley, intending to fatten them up. The twins, though, quickly realize that this is what he's planning - even so, they continue to eat until they can't hold any more, then slip away after shoving a hot pepper ice cream cone into the chef's mouth.

A short time later, the Ramlak returns for its revenge. Although a valiant attack is put forth, the ship is ultimately destroyed, and the Ramlak along with it. It's then that Lion-O finally agrees to let the Wilys tag along as part of their group. He doesn't feel he needs to babysit them. They've more than proven that they can take care of themselves.

After a bit more adventuring, the group runs into the Lizard army once more. To avoid them, they flee into a giant forest made of thorn brambles. Inside, they meet a race of inch-high plant peple called the Petalars, who have become trapped inside with no hope of finding the way out. The group offers to help the Petalars find a way out so that they can return home, but before much can be done, some of the Lizards manage to find their way inside the brambles. While they are easily taken care of, the rest of the Lizard army outside sets the bramble forest on fire. Thankfully for the Petalars, the fire creates and updraft that allows the Petalars to escape without harm. With the Petalars safely out of the way, the group turns its attention to the Lizard army, who has slipped in and managed to outnumber them. Thankfully, Panthro appears to save the day with his Thundertank, sending the Lizard army scattering.

With the Lizard army out of the way, they quickly realize that the Thundertank is low on fuel. Kit and Kat remain behind with the Thundertank while the rest of the group travels into the mountains to search for more Thundranium to use to power the vehicle. Once enough is obtained, they set out on their journey again, this time with transportation seeing as Panthro decided to join up with them. Eventually they find the ruins where the Book of Omens is kept hidden, but the ancient temple is rigged with booby traps. They come to a room where the ceiling is covered in keys, the floor covered in spikes, and only one simple bridge connecting the doorway to the one on the other side of the room. When Cheetara mistakenly uses the wrong key on the door, the bridge retracts, leaving the group hanging on for dear life from the bottom of the locked door. Kat's skills shine through here, and rather than trying to figure out which of the many keys fits the door, he simply picks it without any trouble at all, saving them all from a rather sharp end.

Going through several more traps, they finally reach the center of the temple, where they are attacked by Mumm-ra, who is also after the Book of Omens. His attack forces them to flee the only way available - up. Thankfully, up is just where the Book of Omens happens to be. After a difficult fight, Mumm-ra retreats, leaving the group in possession of the Book of Omens. Unfortunately for them, the book is completely blank.

The book is both a mixture of technology and magic, and they hook it up to the Thundertank, using it as a sort of tracking system to help them find the three stones of power that Lion-O needs in order to power up his Armor of Omens and, subsequently, the Sword of Omens. Once they get it going, the book directs them where to go, and they follow. Unfortunately, the Thundertank soon breaks down again, and the group is forced to stop for repairs in a rather colorful forest of mushrooms. It's raining and they have no food, so they have to make do with what they have and take shelter beneath the mushroom caps for the night. In the morning, they awaken to find bowls of candyfruit left for breakfast, and a makeshift shelter built over their heads to keep the rain away. While Kit and Kat are more than happy to chow down on some candyfruit, the rest of the group is intent on finding out who their benefactors are.

After hiding and waiting, they find a group of small, robotic bears called Berbils coming to mess with the Thundertank. When they confront them, they find that they are just trying to fix the Thundertank, and that they were the ones that left out the food and built the shelter. Befriending them, the group is taken back to their village while the other Berbils repair the Thundertank. Unfortunately, a slaver attacks the village, trying to capture the Berbils and sell them into slavery. Without questioning, the Thundercats leap into action, driving away the slaver and his minions and helping the defenseless Berbils to build suitable defenses, should the slaver try to return. With the Thundertank repaired and upgraded, the group moves on in search of the stone.

The book leads them to a peaceful monastery, where a group of Elephant monks reside. Unfortunately for the group, these Elephants don't have the best memories, and seem to forget things fairly quickly. In the middle of searching for the stone, the monastery is attacked by a group of wasp- like creatures called Wraiths, who are there after the Elephants' harvest. They manage to drive off the Wraiths, but not without losing a large part of the harvest. Lion-O leaves to take care of the Wraiths, leaving the rest of the group behind to rest. The twins hang out with the Elephants, eventually building a group jam session using Kit's flute, Kat's flink as a stringed instrument, and a few of the Elephants' trunks as trumpets. This revealed, though, that Kit's flute can break stone if it reaches a certain pitch.

Lion-O returns later, having defeated the Wraiths, but they soon find that the buzzing sound that the Wraiths had created were the only things keeping a giant stone monster from attacking the monastery. Using Kit's flute, they manage to destroy the stone monster, saving the monastery from being destroyed.

Lion-O has been having difficulties harmonizing with the Sword of Omens in order to track down just where the stone is, so the Elephants direct them to a nearby forest where his connection with the sword will be amplified. After finding out that the forest might be haunted, the twins start playing around and acting like ghosts, which earns them the punishment of having to go out and gather firewood. Later that night, after they return, the group is attacked by spirits. They are unable to fend them off themselves, but a trio of Wood Foragers come in to save them, trapping the spirits on paper. They bring the group back to their school, which doubles as a papermill, and explain the situation. A monster named Viragor attacks them continuously, and the spirits work for him. After an attack by Viragor, Lion-O leaves to confront the monster, and returns with some interesting information - Viragor is only trying to protect the forest, and the Wood Foragers are the ones truly in the wrong. The Wood Foragers attack them for siding with Viragor, but with Viragor's help, the Wood Foragers are defeated.

With Lion-O having overcome his issue with the Sword of Omens and having seen that the stone lies on the Astral Plane inside a hut at the monastery, they make their return. Unfortunately, they find smoke billowing from the buildings, and wisely, they hide on the outskirts. The Lizard army had advanced while they were gone, and Grune is demanding that the Elephants hand over their stone. Though they try to be stealthy and sneak up on the army, Kit gives them away when one of her Elephant friends is in trouble. Grune forces them to disarm themselves and makes Lion-O show him the location of the stone. Luckily for the rest of the group, Tygra slips away and manages to grab the Thundertank. Before Grune can enter the Astral Plane, Tygra comes back with the Thundertank, creating enough of a diversion for everyone to rearm themselves and force the Lizard army and Grune to retreat. Lion-O and Tygra head into the Astral Plane to get the stone, leaving the rest of the group behind.

While they are retrieving the stone, Grune and the Lizard army are still trying to get at the hut, and the rest of the group does their best to defend it. Kat goes down into the fray, watching and waiting for his chance at first. When he finds it, it comes in the form of a gun about three times his size, but he still manages to pick it up with a bit of difficulty and balance issues. He fires it at one of the army's techs, and while his shot hits its target, the recoil from the gun sends him and the gun slamming back into a small group of Lizards, knocking them out. After recovering, he makes a hasty retreat back to the hut, where he defends until what seems to be the last-- until the Elephants finally decide to join into the fight, anyway. The Elephants easily chase off the Lizard army, but the Astral Plane portal begins to collapse. Tygra and Lion-O manage to escape with the stone before it does, but Grune gets sucked into the Astral Plane, clinging to Panthro's arms the entire time. Because of this, Panthro loses his arms from just above the elbow. Despite the loss, the gain of a stone of power is cause for celebration, and the group and the Elephants have a victory party later that night.

Abilities/Additional Notes:
Kat's main abilities are his more cat-like ones. He's extremely quick and agile, able to jump much farther than any of the other Thundercats aside from Kit. When running on all fours, he's capable of being even faster than he is on two feet. His cat-like traits also cover heightened sight and hearing, as well as claws and fangs, so he can bite and slash if he has to. The claws also help him to grip better, helping him to be able to climb with ease.

Kat's weapon is a sort of grappling tool called a flink. It's clawed on one end and can be used to grab out-of-reach items, but its garrote-like string is a weapon in and of itself, and also allows it to be used as both a stringed instrument.

Sample Journal Post:
[When the video clicks on, it's entirely by accident - and oddly, all that's seen is a fluffy white tail. There's the sound of rummaging, pausing occasionally while an unintelligible voice nearby murmurs something, followed by something of undeterminable origin being tossed through the air in a high arc. It hits the PCD, turning it right back off.

A few moments later, it turns back on again, this time showing what is very obviously the inside of someone's mouth, or at least part of it. The mouth moves away rather quickly, though, and before the PCD can be dropped, the camera gets a very good look at a wide, brown eye and a face covered in cream-colored fur.]

Whoa-- it came on! Hey, Kit, check it out--

[And the feed is cut before anything else can be said.

Periodically, the voice feed comes back on, but not the video feed. It catches snippets of conversation here and there.]

--why's it not coming ba--

[Silence.]

--told you you'd break it--

[Silence.]

--didn't think it'd taste that bad--

[And then, a longer silence, as the feed finally cuts out entirely.]

Trees were always comfortable. Especially the big branches - they made the best napping spots.

Wilykat stretched out on his branch, toes curling as he did, and lazily opened his eyes. The cold didn't bother him at all, really. Having all this fur really helped when it came to that. This place, broken as it was, was much colder than Thundera ever had been during the daytime, but the sun was still warm, and the trees were still good places to hang out.

He dropped with ease from the tree, landing flat on his feet in a crouch. Kit was... somewhere nearby, he was sure. She never ran off on her own for long, but he still couldn't help the little pang of protectiveness that sparked in his mind. They were perfectly capable of taking care of themselves, that much was sure, but in a place like this...

Kat shook his head, forcing out any negative thoughts entirely. No, this place was cool. Incredibly cool. He still swore it had to be El-Dara, even though everyone else told him otherwise. Sure, it was a little broken, but there wasn't anything wrong with that. Their shack back in Thundera hadn't been in the best of shape, either.

Plopping down in the snow, Kat's hands carefully began to form little balls of snow, a mischievous little grin on his lips. Whenever Kit popped up, wherever she'd gone, she was in for a surprise.
