I get stuck when making the database. I am totally confused when making the database because it's not as simple as creating a new database and telling the phpbb2 install the name, is it?

Can a newbie get a little help? phpMyAdmin is what I'm using to create the databse.

Thanks SO much.

PHPBB Style Request

Is there someone here, or anyone you know that is decent with graphics?

I'm putting together a new forum. I'm modding the heck out of phpbb trying to make some uber-badass forum software. But I need a good theme/style for the forum. I really like Charcoal3Steel, and that is what I most often use.

However, I'd like to have something a bit more customized and unique. I can slap on a cheesy logo with Photoshop, but perhaps someone with a little more skill can help me out.

Honestly, I'm looking for something more along the lines of this.

Charcoal3Steel is nice, but it is a bit monochromatic. The above linked style has better contrast, and better depth. The page doesn't look as flat.

If you can help me out, I'll be extremely grateful!

Thanks!

I'm not so great with phpbb, but I seriously, deeply need help, or i'll even PAY someone to do it for me, --- I just need the attachments mod installed. And It's sooooo complicated (in my eyes) even though I read everywhere it's a great mod and everything. I need it for users to submit files ,and then have the ability to view them using the mod "ezDownloads".

www.piuzone.com/phpbb/

Again if this isn't allowed, please, just let me know and i'll delete.
Thanks.

x-posted

I've created a site hoping to archive php coded forums from the world wide web. This way an internet surfer can login and search categorized listings of forums so they can easily find what they're looking for.

Since there are thousands of php coded forums of all different content, I'd like to set up categories and list them under it.

unfortunately I know very little php. I know how to implement MODS into my forums and that's just about it.

Here's the site I'm working on. http://phpforumarchive.com/

Any suggestions or anyone willing to help? I am sure this will be a decent site when completed and people (internet surfers) will probably use it frequently. Forum owners will like it because of the free advertising they get for their site.

I know html, some javascript, no php beyond pre written MODS that show you how to instal them. MySQL? Forget it.

Tell me I'm in over my head.

Okay, I'm new to the community *wave* I've had my phpbb board for almost a year, and it's pretty small, never gotten much traffic.

Then, a few weeks ago, all of a sudden my board got flooded with fake accounts like "texas holdem" and "poker" and the like. One of the fellow admins turned on Admin activation, so they can't post without our okay, but they keep making new accounts like every day. It's kind of baffling, since my site has little traffic and has nothing to do with gambling or ringtones or that nonsense.

Is there anything else I can do? I've disabled all the names I can think of, but how do I know their IPs to ban them (they're not online when I am)? Can I disable the domain email they're using? can I disable new account creation altogether until they get tired and go elsewhere?

This has been going on for too long and is driving me nuts. Please, if you can, help.

Smileys, templates help

I'm just starting out and my webhost (canaca.com) offers phpBB2.0.15 a part of the package. Installation seems to have worked out well but I noticed the following problems when administering the forum:

1. I cannot seem to install new smiley packs. I have followed the directions provided in the phpBB documentations I've found and uploaded the new smiley packs in my /images/smileys folder but when I click on Import Smiley Pack, there are no .pak files to select. Also I moved the default smileys to a different folder and then they all disappeared from the main forum selection. I removed and replaced the new smileys in the default folder but they are still not showing up for me to add even as individual smileys. I tried changing the file attributes hoping it would do the trick but still nothing.

2. I also cannot seem to install new templates. I'm basically having the same problem with templates as with the smileys. I have uploaded the template fiapplepink in the /templates folder but when I go to Add Template there are no templates listed.

And yes, I have been to the phpbb support forum. 88 reads of my post but not a single response. I'd really appreciate if someone here could point me in the right direction.
Thanks!

Hello, I've been using phpbb for quite a while now. I wasn't really into all the mod things, so I've never used them before. I was taking a look at the cash and points hack yesterday and decided I'd install the EasyMod so it wouldn't take so long in the end with installing all the hacks I wanted. I put in all my ftp informatino and it said it had established a connection. I went to the next step where it had to configure the files and create a table. The table was created but only a few of the files were copied and I got several "Critical Errors". I'm lost and I have no idea what to do. If anyone could help me with this I would really appreciate it!

I just got an e-mail from an acquaintance asking how to move a phpBB to another server & database. I thought I'd post it here for the benefit of those who wouldn't know, as when I first did such a transfer (a couple years ago), I couldn't find any FAQ addressing this;

1. Go to your old server's PHPMyAdmin and export all your mySQL database files.
2. Switch over to your new server's PHPMyAdmin, go to your database's page and scroll down to the box labelled "Or Location of the textfile"; import your database files there.
3. Go to the directory of your existing phpBB and back it up. (if the phpBB is unhacked and a recent version, you can skip this by just not uploading the install and contrib folders)
4. Upload your phpBB's files to the new directory on the other server.
5. Open up config.php and edit the file so that it can access your new database.

And there you go. :)

I personally dislike that; not all people identify with either "female" or "male".

My question is... does anybody know if the said mod already has an option for adding other categories or making it optional to pick a gender? Furthermore, if none exists, I'd be willing to make an alternate mod which would have a write-in gender option.

(I grew up speaking French; most of my web sites are bilingual.)

Anyway, I'm wondering how I can format the php timestamp of a phpBB (or any other php page), so that I can write it that with the 'h' in the place of the standard colon.

Right now, I have my the timestamp on my profile set to M d H:i; I would imagine if I were to write it as M d H h i, the second 'h' would just repeat the hour time.

(x-posted: phpbb and php)

What mods/hacks, add-onds, edits, etc. do you always tend to install in your phpBBs?

By default, I usually install:
- announcement box on the index, as I find it helps quite a bit in having stuff like site guidelines out in everybody's faces
- admin userlist
- enabling moderators to see invisible members
- removal of COPPA requirements; I've yet to ever have an American under the age of 13 join any of my messageboards anyway...
- addition of [center], [sub] and [sup] to the BBcode
- removal of post-counts from the thread view; I keep it still viewable from the person's profile, but I find getting rid of the in-thread post-counts alieviates a lot of post-races
