I am seeking some advice on search engines for web applications. Currently I am using Cold Fusion and use Verity to do create collections on thousands of different types of documents..as well as database info.

Are there any other inexpensive reliable search engines out there that you like to use? Also, this doesn't have to be just cold fusion...I would like to collect other options since the base code may be changed to Java, PHP, ASP...and the like.

Any advice/suggestions are very very appreciated
