As you all probably know by now, Hex Files and HPFandom are both being preserved at AO3. [Actual post addressing this here]

All the (non AO3 duplicate) fics at those archive will eventually be imported to AO3 and the sites will be closed. Once imported, Open Doors will contact you via your email listed on those sites to ask you to claim your fics and all that jazz. If you do not wish to import any fics or if you want to be selective, you can click on the link above and see how you can contact Open Doors to let them know.

If you would like to preserve the comments or reviews, I'd recommend that you take screencaps or copy them before the sites are closed. Those will unfortunately not be imported. There will probably be a handful of months before the sites are officially closed so you have plenty of time. :)

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: Ferret

Scenario: To Draco's consternation, the Malfoy-Potter family welcomes a new ferret into their homes.

Additions: Ferret training and house-proofing | Stolen socks or other articles of clothing | Ferret walking gone wrong

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: Dog, cat, toad, snake or any other common pet-form that Harry would adopt.

Scenario: While fleeing from the Wizarding world, Draco is cursed to stay in his Animagus form. Harry adopts him. Oops.

Additions: Draco unsuccessfully trying to explain to Harry who he is | Draco hates pet food | Harry is a lonely man island

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: Patronus Stag (or it could have changed shape)

Scenario: After an accident at work, Harry's Patronus form took a life of its own.

Additions: You can either go the cute route and have Harry's Patronus trying to match-make Harry or go the other route and have the form haunting Harry in some way. Draco becomes instrumental in reverting Harry's Patronus form.

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: The Grim (takes the shape of a large, black, spectral dog)

Scenario: Harry turns into The Grim. Draco Malfoy is his next haunt. However, things are not as they seem. Will Harry be able to prevent Draco's Death?

Additions: Master of Death | Harry's Saving People Thing | Draco takes unneccesary risks in his daily life

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: Thestrals and other creatures found at Hogwarts

Scenario: Harry is a Wizarding vet who is called to tend to the Hogwarts creatures that have mysteriously fallen ill.

Additions: Draco works at Hogwarts | Harry is ruggedly handsome and wears ill-fitting (too-small) Muggle clothing | Draco is most displeased

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: Diricawl (Dodo)

Scenario: The Diricawl is a plump and flightless bird known as the dodo in the Muggle world. It is believed to have been extinct by Muggles for many many years. Recently, their ability to disappear was affected and they were sighted once more. Harry and Draco from the Beast Division and the Office of Misinformation (Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures) respectively, must race to protect these birds.

Additions: Malfoys don't do camping | Baby dodo chicks | Harry is adopted by dodos

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: Owls and magical birds. Feel free to choose or include other animal forms.

Scenario: Harry founded Hedwig's Haven, a sanctuary for old, sick, injured, and orphaned animals. Draco keeps bringing Harry a new animal to care for.

Additions: Harry is a Disney princess (animals love him) | Draco wants to be his prince (animals tolerates him... on good days) | Is this relationship doomed to fail?

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: Any form of reptile or amphibian species e.g. magical salamander or pygmy dragon

Scenario: Auror Harry and Magizoologist Draco are tasked with the safety and caring of the eggs of a very rare species. Unbeknownst to them, there are others who are interested in stealing the highly-prized embryos when they are hatched. Inspired by the hatching of actual baby dragons!

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: Dragons

Scenario: During the Fiendfyre incident at the Room of Requirements, a long-forgotten dragon egg was engulfed by the flames. The little dragon hatched and imprinted on the first magical signature it finds. Whether it's Harry or Draco or both, it's up to you.

Additions: The Care and Feeding of Picky Baby Dragons | Co-parenting shenanigans | Hatching by Fiendfyre has unusual consequences

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: UK animals such as red fox, roe/fallow deer, pygmy shrew, red squirrel, polecat, Scottish wildcat, Pine Marten, or even non-native animals like wallabies

Scenario: The magical ley lines of Britain started emitting huge amounts of magical energy. The local non-magical wildlife that are exposed to this emission are affected in strange ways. It is up to Harry and Draco to figure out the cause of the emission and/or protect the wildlife and/or undo the changes.

Additions: The animals start developing magical traits or behaviour | Harry and Draco gets affected too | Highly intelligent animals

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: Pink Fairy Armadillo

Scenario: I DON'T CARE HOW OR WHY BUT SOMEHOW HARRY OR DRACO ADOPTED THIS 5-INCH ANIMAL.

Additions: The pink fairy armadillo has its own sandbox

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: Huskies

Scenario: After the war (or another traumatising event) Harry becomes a recluse and lives in a remote cold location. He inherits a pack of Huskies along the way. Draco is in charged of bringing Harry home but ends up falling in love with Harry and the dogs.

Additions: Sharing body warmth | Snowed-in | Mountain man Harry

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: The most absurd animagus form you can think of e.g. giraffe or sloths or whale or worm or banana slug

Scenario: The animagi animal form is not chosen by the wizard, but determined by their personality and inner traits. During Advanced Transfiguration, all interested students are given the chance to learn how to be an animagus. Harry and/or Draco found out that their animagus forms are COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS. Hilarity ensues.

Additions: what personality traits turn you into a whale or a platypus tho, think about it

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: Animals or magical creatures that forms strong bonds such as wolves, thestrals, hippogriffs, elephants, orcas, dolphins, lions, foxes.
Scenario: Harry and Draco are co-workers who can't seem to work together; they keep arguing and fighting instead. During an assignment together, Harry and Draco, were somehow turned into these animals - they will only be turned back when they learn how to corporate. It is up to you whether it is a curse placed by a stranger or a spell that their friends cast on them.
Additions: The experience transform the way Harry and Draco see the world and feel about each other | Scent marking | Feel free to let them get their freak on in their animal forms (or not)

Animal/Animal-shaped Form: Dangerous creatures like werewolves or anything you can think of!
Scenario: Zombie apocalypse! Except replace zombies with feral creatures! There's a curse going around that turns people into feral creatures of your choice! Alternatively, only werewolves are not affected by the curse.
Additions: On the run | Harry Saving People Thing | Badass Harry and Draco

Guidelines for Effective AO3 Tagging

Need help with AO3 tagging? Look no further, this is a guide to help you figure out how you can tag with maximum effectiveness.

Disclaimer: Before we begin, I would to stress that AO3 does not impose any rules for tagging; users can tag however and whatever they like [1]. You are not in any way required to follow the guidelines in Part I.

Part I: Guidelines for Effective Tagging
(Complete AO3 tagging FAQ here)

General Tips

1. When you add a tag, just type the tag partially and choose from the auto-complete list.

2. Use tag search if you want to know what tags are available.

3. Concept might not be canonised yet? Tag it and be specific. Use full names/non-ambiguous wording and descriptions. This helps wranglers know exactly who or what you are referring to. They can canonise or syn them to the right tags instead of leaving them unfilterable or synning them to the generic metatags like the following:

Fandom: Avengers (See subtags)

Character: James (See subtags)

Relationship: John/Mary (See subtags)

Freeform: Super!Harry (Superhero? Superpowers? Superior? Which Harry?)

4. Separate different concepts with a comma or by entering them one at a time. Do not combine more than one concept in one tag. One tag can only be synned to one concept. Examples:

Fandom: "Teen Wolf Harry Potter" can't be synned to Teen Wolf (TV) or Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling

Freeform: "Severus Snape is annoyed and angsty" can't be synned to Severus Snape Angst or Annoyed Severus Snape

Freeform: "EWE Hogwarts AU" can't be synned to Harry Potter Epilogue What Epilogue | EWE or Alternate Universe - Hogwarts

5. A metatag is an umbrella tag for relevant concept groups (subtags) beneath it. Clicking on a metatag will show all works tagged with the metatag (and its synonyms) and all its subtags (and its synonyms). So if you already tag Angsty Schmoop or Sentient Hogwarts there's no real need for you to tag their metatags, Angst or Hogwarts, respectively.

6. Don't tag variations of the same concept in the same fic. Relationship tags such as Johnlock, John Watson x Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock/John all gets synned to Sherlock Holmes/John Watson.

7. Follow the categories given. Do not tag characters in the relationship category or fandoms in the freeforms. Wranglers cannot switch categories or edit your tag (capitalising canonical tags aside) so they will just leave wrongly categorised tag unfilterable.

I've followed General Tips #3, but my tag still hasn't been synned/canonised!

1. Tag traffic for a larger fandom like Harry Potter is usually heavy. The wranglers will get to your tag in time. If it's been too long, contact Support.

2. Are you referring to a freeform tag?

Perhaps your tag still isn't clear enough to be synned. (See Part III for examples of clear tag formatting)

Perhaps there are several users using the same tag to mean different things so it can't be canonised.

Perhaps very few people are tagging for that particular concept so it can't be canonised yet.

What should I tag in Fandom, Character, Relationship and Freeform?

Fandom: Tag all relevant fandoms separately.

Character: Tag main character(s). (optional) Tag supporting character(s) by name if they are featured heavily or use the following character tags:

My suggestion is to use at least one genre, one kink or trope or object, and one era or event that is heavily featured in your story. You can't go wrong. Here is an example:

"Romance, Angst, Misunderstandings, Kissing, Auror Harry Potter, Redeemed Draco Malfoy, Post-Hogwarts, Ministry of Magic Ball"

Go ahead and tag stuff that hasn't been canonised (e.g. Polyjuice Potion Went Wrong). It might be canonised someday!

I keep a collection of my prompts every year so I probably should post it here. Behold my not-very-creative prompts for H/D Pottermore Fest. (Was away on a workshop so I submitted the prompts privately. xD)

Prompt #38

Inspired by Pottermore entry: B5

Scenario: AU Triwizard Tournament or Exchange Student!Draco. Draco was sent to Durmstrang instead of Hogwarts. Draco is chosen by the Goblet of Fire to compete in the Triwizard Tournament alongside Harry or Draco is the new exchange student that got under Harry’s skin.

Additions: (optional) Durmstrang uniform | Draco speaking foreign language | Different school curriculums ("Munter established Durmstrang's reputation for duelling and all forms of martial magic, which remain an impressive part of its curriculum today.")

Inspired by Pottermore entry: B8

Scenario: When most of the students in Harry’s year return to Hogwarts for their 8th year, tension rises tremendously between Slytherin and the rest of the Houses. McGonagall decided that all the 8th years should be resorted into a new and secondary House to unite them. Harry and Draco both ended up in Hufflepuff.

Additions: (optional) Hogwarts Kitchen escapades | Wrong passwords (“As a security device to repel non-Hufflepuffs, tapping on the wrong barrel, or tapping the incorrect number of times, results in one of the other lids bursting off and drenching the interloper in vinegar.”)

Inspired by Pottermore entry: B10

“The Leaky Cauldron has changed little over the years; it is small, dingy and welcoming, with a few bedrooms above the public bar for travellers who live a long way from London. It is the ideal spot to catch up with wizarding gossip if you happen to live a long way from the nearest magical neighbour.”

Scenario: Hannah Abbott, the new landlady of The Leaky Cauldron, hired Draco (who couldn’t find a job) to be the new bartender after the war. Harry is a loyal customer (due to Draco’s presence or not, it’s up to you).

Inspired by Pottermore entry: C3

“As a small, outsider and occasionally beleaguered community, wizards are, by and large, interested in the same kinds of stories: the Quidditch League results…”

Scenario: Draco is a magical sports journalist for the Daily Prophet who was tasked to write a story on the newest Quidditch Professional Seeker, Harry Potter.

Prompt #59

Inspired by Pottermore entry: C6

“Where exactly the Hogwarts Express came from has never been conclusively proven, although it is a fact that there are secret records at the Ministry of Magic detailing a mass operation involving one hundred and sixty-seven Memory Charms and the largest ever mass Concealment Charm performed in Britain.”

Scenario: When The Hogwarts Express goes missing (with children inside), Harry and Draco were sent to find it (and save the children).

Additions: (optional) This could be a hijacking/kidnapping situation, or a concealment spell malfunction | Harry and Draco’s occupation is up to you.

Secondly, ‘knight’ has the connotation of coming to the rescue, of protection, and this seemed appropriate for a vehicle that is often the conveyance of last resort.”

Scenario: Inspired by the Knight Bus, Harry Potter decided to create a similar new service that specifically helps Magical children and young adults (from Muggle or abusive backgrounds like Harry) who needs transportation or a quick escape. Draco somehow gets pulled along for a ride.

Additions: Draco could be a social worker, a ministry worker from the transportation department in charge of Harry’s application or whatever you can think of!

Scenario: Draco is a chocolatier, and Harry is an expert in Patronus charms. Draco approached Harry to create a chocolate that could temporarily ward dementors (and their effects) after consumption.

Hee, time to claim my piece for H/D Career Fair 2014! writcraft and I have been discussing the idea to create a fairytale-inspired Harry/Draco world since January. We were finally able to work on it for the Fan Fair. It was such a joy to be able to be able to bounce ideas off each other and cobble together a product that we both are proud off.

In the process of creating this fanwork, we often joked about fic-ception and art imitating life. We are an artist and a writer collaborating on a fairytale about an artist (Harry) and a writer (Draco) collaborating on a fairytale, geddit? Like Harry, I can't write to save my life, so I needed a writer as awesome as Writ to bring the story to life! *squishes her silly* If you are a fan of darker fairytales, do check out the fanwork we've made by clicking on the title below! Title: The Boy and the Sleeping Prince (Harry/Draco, NC-17)
Summary: Harry is miserable and tired of being an Auror, coasting through life until he’s forced to make some changes. Spurred on by his passion for drawing and working with best-selling author Draco Malfoy, Harry develops a charm which gives children a magical, interactive reading experience. But when it’s time to test the spell, the two men find themselves trapped in a nightmarish fairy tale world. Can they escape unscathed, or is Draco right in his assertions that there is no such thing as a happily ever after?

The few of you who friended me for the art (or recs) would probably have noticed that my drawing (and overall fandom) output for the last 2 years is pretty dismal. With the rising cost of living and lesser income from January to June next year, my fandom activity will probably drop even more, aside from modding next year's H/D Art Fest and Fan Fair. I would love to continue doing the things I enjoy, such as drawing and making other types of art, and so:

To avoid confusion, I use Firefox for hd_fanart stuff, Chrome for hd_fan_fair stuff and Safari for rl work. I think I have 100 tabs open. Let's hope I don't need to download a fourth browser.

LJ can't you make switching multiple accounts simpler?? I've been a terrible LJ person lately - I wish I could keep up with my friends feed but all the logging in and out is super annoying. *grumps*

Btw, the H/D Fanart Fest entries are looking great so far. Half the entries have already been submitted! We can't wait till you guys get to see them in November! I wish I could say that I've arted for it already - but there's frankly no time. Boo self.

Career Fair is off to a great start! I'm particularly fond of The Critiquer as it's for my Draco Cock Critic prompt (yes, you read that right)! The fic inspired me into making NWS moving graphics for it, so please don't make the mistake of opening it at work (which I did back in August and I nearly got caught with waving dicks on my computer screen). Malaysian second plane disaster

A Boeing 777 flying carrying 295 passengers from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was possibly shot down. It crashed in the Ukraine and no one is believed to have survived. Guess we'll have to wait till the investigations are carried out before knowing what happened exactly, but if it really was shot down - how the fuck did they mistake a civilian plane for a hostile one??

This is our second major plane disaster in 2014 alone (the last big plane accident before this was in the 70s). I'm just watching the news in horror.

~~We have a few spots open on our team this year~~. ~~One spot left! Is anyone on my flist interested in joining or needs a team for GISHWHES?~~ AND FILLED! :D

It's basically the Greatest Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen. The GISHWES people will come up with a long list of items we'll either have to capture on camera or on video and submit for points. The team with the highest points wins!

Items range from charitable to ridiculous. Here are some examples:

VIDEO: Find an example of someone who engages in sustained generosity in your community and then do something nice for them.

IMAGE: Make yourself into a truly irresistible pastry or desert. Place yourself where we might find such a treat: on a countertop, in a display case, at a buffet, in a picnic basket, etc.

Pottermore Fan Project anyone?

A Harry Potter project where people create fanworks that are related to any Pottermore article or entry. It could be:

1. "What really happened" - the story behind any article or entry.

You could write or draw about Ignatia Wildsmith! You could write a story about Fred and George trying to create Floo powder and nearly burning the Burrow down when they were children. It doesn't even have to be in story format! You could team up with a HP graphic artist and do a news article written by a hapless Daily Prophet corresponder who tries to figure out the person behind Floo-Pow.

Basically, just a project where we have fun writing and drawing whatever inspires us in the Pottermore extension of the HP universe. I don't think it should be in fest format... but

I binge-watched Orange Is The New Black last weekend and I absolutely loved it.
