General stuff + The Bard Inn Project Breakdown
Hi everyone 👋😊
Well, It’s been pretty hectic the last couple weeks to say the least…


Here at the house we’ve had the shower out of commission for nearly 3 weeks while some renovation takes place - aswell as some serious landscaping with some concrete work involved. So yeah, noisy, busy and dusty…with the wonderful aroma of various industrial chemicals gracing my nostrils haha.
The internet and software gremlins have been causing issues whilst hosting livestreams on a few different platforms, including here on Substack, which has been more than a little disappointing. I was kicked off 3 in a row, during the sessions, 2 with guests - sheesh. It seems to be sorted now, but yeah…not cool man. Just part of the territory of doing this kind of work.
James and I have been hosting our show “The Independent Spirit”, trying to keep it on a consistent date & time, however our increasingly busy schedules and some tech issues are causing a bit of a hindrance, so these will likely be a little more spontaneous from here on. Thanks! to everyone who has subscribed to the NEW “The Bard Inn” YouTube channel. As of this message, we are up to 81 subscribers with some seriously good reach so far - nearly 850 views on one of the medium form videos with approx 7,000 impressions, which is awesome. (Impressions are the number of times it is seen in peoples YouTube feed when they are scrolling in the app etc). Engagement is looking great too, lots of LIKES :)
Pretty good for a brand new channel with only a few videos.
The Bard Inn now has its own Substack.

Breakdown of the Remastering process
Long-form
The 1st “The Bard Inn” LIVE panel (remastered version of ep1 from 2024) took about 8+ hours to process just the 2.5hr longform video into a final version, uploaded to YouTube with graphics and text assets etc.
The number guests with different audio inputs, each one needing to be individually adjusted. Eg 6 people with 7 questions = 42 individual speaking segments all needing to be normalised and edited - including removing audio spikes (coughs and mic bumps etc…)
And then working through cutting out redundancies like dead space, then adding in-video graphics, uploading to YouTube + thumbnails, text assets (descriptions, titles, guest links, hashtags…thanks AI 😘) and collaborator links to optimise for algorithmic spread into the YouTube universe.
Medium-form
Then comes the cutting up of the 2.5hr long-form into medium-form (usually 10-20min segments by question). These sometimes need some further editing to keep them tight in presentation. Think of the long-form being the general hangout that plays in the background while you cook, whereas the medium-form are more for attentive watching, that give more immediate value in a smaller portion.
There were about 11 of these medium-form from Ep1, and each needs a little tweaking, their own graphics and text assets. They are then scheduled for release each week. YouTube loves consistency.
The process is time-intensive, but the workflow is tightening up as I continue. Am learning about healthy doses of computer time haha. Especially video editing, yoicks. Fried eyeballs man 😳
