A Moment of Color & Joy
This weekend saw the US and Israel killing and destroying people and places all over the Middle East. About a dozen other countries joined in the destruction and killing spree. I find it both disgusting and depressing.
So what did I do? My options are limited because we live in a very remote area and have about 60 animals to care for. I decided to create some new notecard designs. I want to insert a moment of colour and joy into the insanity that is our current world situation.
Running an animal Rescue & Sanctuary allows me to find plenty of inspiration. I picked three of our 45 cats for art this weekend. I started by working with an older design that featured a calico named Miss Moshe. For the new design, I used “Cleocatra” and I updated the art to include a scene that reminds me of a friend’s view in Tilbury (Essex).
That was a fun start to the weekend. Then I noticed “Beautiful” on the front deck and thought he’d make a good subject for our series of “Bookstore Cats”. Beautiful has been with us for about ten years and he is a very striking looking cat.
Then there is my almost constant companion, Falcon. He is a cat that purrs on eye contact. Amazingly gentle and friendly little guy who also sleeps next to me. I often wake up to find his head resting on my hand.
Sunday afternoon we went for a walk and fed some tall wheat grass to the goats living across the way. No humans live there, the goats just wander around in a large pasture, pretty happy with the space. When they see us they rush over for social contact. This lady, I call her “Ishi” is the bravest and seems to have developed a trust for me.
That background is where we live, near Paskenta and the Yolla Bolly wilderness. It really is a beautiful place.
I’ve made these all into notecard designs. I’m happy to send one (for free) to anyone who wants a break from the news cycle and likes colour and cats or goats. Just message me.
Enjoy!
