We Lost :(
Twitter Anxiety
I’ll address it at the top: I was too overwhelmed by the discourse on twitter last week to even begin to dive deep into the cultural happenings. As a non-Swiftie this whole Ticketmaster thing was less than a blip on my radar. But if y’all can get me cheaper tickets, power to the revolution baby!!
Meanwhile, twitter in general feels like an absolute hellscape between the doomsday postings, Trump/Kanye coming back, and overall the chaos of not knowing who is verified and who isn’t. Obviously this site is near and dear to my heart, but it may soon be time to part ways with miss girl. Which would then require me to…read news and articles in real time???
In honor of Twitter, everyone take some extra time to go back to your favorite tweets. Also,,,I NEED to be in Mexico City with the twitter employees. Imagine the fun, the drama, the partying!!
No More Darling to Worry About
In actual big news, Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles broke up. Wait sorry they’re ‘on a break’. For starters, I literally texted Nell weeks ago and was like,,,they broke up right? Like besides her being at his shows like every other girl in the Lower 48, there was no sign that they were actually even spending time together let alone in love??? or dating??? or happy together???
(for the record this was on October 17th, so I essentially predicted this breakup)
I’m actually not hating on them in the moment. I feel like the writing has been on the wall. Like to weather the storm of all that has occurred over the last six months let alone the prior two years,,,I think we knew this was not going to last forever. I also feel like Olivia Wilde has low-key been in a flop era of sorts since she started dating Harry so this will hopefully propel her back into her former glory. Who is to say!
GRAMMYs More Like FLOPPYs
I actually have a LOT of music related updates this week. Because I skipped last week, I didn’t give a chance to provide my inputs on the Grammy nominations. I obviously won’t say MUCH because I think we all know my music taste maybe skews less relatable every single day.
Beyoncé, Adele, Lizzo, Kendrick, and Harry are all obviously at the top of Grammy lists and nominations (also Taylor for Song of the Year) which feels unsurprising and I don’t really think there’s much new I can add here. I have a feeling that Beyoncé will ultimately be the big winner to welcome her back and also right wrongs of past losses to Adele specifically. (Adele’s 2017 Grammy Acceptance Speech Apology to Beyoncé)
In other news, Viola Davis might FINALLY get her much deserved EGOT. She’s nominated for the recording of her memoir and I will freak out if she wins. Kelly Clarkson is officially a critically acclaimed pop, country, and holiday star which we as a people already knew, but finally have confirmation from the GRAMMYs. Also,,,my girl CHARLI got a mention in Pitchfork re the snub for CRASH, which means it’s not just the annoying people who think she deserves a Grammy:
“A lack of any nod at all for Charli XCX’s Crash, brash and whip-smart synth-pop of a kind that once had the Eurythmics onstage making the Grammys look cooler than they ever were, is similarly outrageous. Surely what this show needs most is some personality, which Charli always delivers and then some.”
All-in-all, I probably won’t tune into the Grammys, but that could always change. It just feels like the same old same old, including noms for Chris Brown, Louis CK, Dave Chappelle and the likes, simply because the recording academy is “not going to look at people’s past or their criminal history, just their music.” Yes that’s a statement from the Recording Academy’s CEO.
B A R B I E. W A T C H.
"It is, in my humble opinion, the ultimate example of high art and low art,"
Words from none other than Will Ferrell in an interview with Wall Street Journal. He’ll play the CEO of Mattel a.k.a. the company that owns Barbie. Basically I’m expecting like one of those films that feels like a low budget piece of cinematic history.
$5 Movie TÁRsday
In case that wasn’t clear: I saw Tár. It is objectively a pretty good movie. It’s kind of a fun kind of drama in the sense that you can fully escape into the chaos that is this woman’s life. I won’t lie, I had not slept well the night before and I did briefly fall asleep in the theater, but from all that I saw I did enjoy the movie.
I think maybe a strength or weakness (depends on how you look at it) is that it seems like a movie that almost requires a second watch. Like, I know I did take a quick nap, but I’m still not FULLY sure what took place. And I’ve heard similar things from everyone else who has seen it so far.
Cate Blanchett does an incredible job and I honestly would follow her into war or wherever she wanted to take me. Like, SHE should be in charge of the Victory Project with Chris Pine. The last few minutes of the movie are both hilarious and depressing and I honestly do want to watch it again sometime soon.
Not A Safe Space for Katy Perry
I’m not going to get into the thick of LA Mayoral Politics, but long story short, Katy Perry publicly supported Rick Caruso for Mayor - a former ‘tough-on-crime Republican’ who tried running as a Democrat looking to ‘save the city’. He was running against Karen Bass, an actual Democrat who has served in Congress and is also the first woman to be elected as mayor of LA and someone who isn’t trying to gentrify L.A. into the future, at least publicly.
Basically, Katy just exposed herself as one of the countless rich LA personas who would rather criminalize the hell out of homelessness so she doesn’t have to see it anymore. I mean her along with Gwyneth.
This newsletter has gone back and forth between being a KatyCat and not, but today it unequivocally is anti-KatyCat and the Grammyless woman that is Katy Perry.

happy late November to all - please enjoy the last few days we have until holiday music is all we hear. I’m attempting to not be a grinch/hater with holiday/christmas music this year, but I simply don’t know if that’s actually something that can happen. we shall see <|:) (this is supposed to be a guy wearing a Santa hat)
also Chicago is cold. That’s simply all I will say on the matter.
