Whenever there's a contest, of any kind, information and sign-ups will be located here. Make sure you read the rules and guidelines of each contest before signing up for one.

Since Southern was not formed like a regular Weyr, the Common areas are buildings where everything is located. The Kitchens and Dining hall are together in one building. The infirmary for both riders and dragons is another and so on.

Nestled alongside the Hatching Grounds, the candidate barracks are on the northern side of the grounds and the weyrlings on the southern side.

The Weyr Bowl is not in the center of the Weyr as many would think, it is off to the most Southern side of the Weyr. Its western side is where a river fed lake is located for bathing dragons and for safe swimming and fishing. The Eastern side is where the feeding pens are for the dragons and whers of Southern Weyr and Hold. Located slightly off center of the 'bowl's' northern area is a large open field for gatherings to take place.

Unlike traditional Weyrs, the people of Southern live in strongly built huts. Those belonging to the queenriders are close to the hatchings sands, while riders and Weyrfolk alike are scattered throughout the Weyrbowl. Weyrling and Candidate Staff live close to the barracks, leaving the remaining huts to other riders and Weyrfolk.

Settled into a 'small' and inactive, ancient volcano, are the hatching sands. It's open on two ends and exposed to the sky. Many speculate this small volcano was a 'vent' to a much larger one that has sunken into the ocean. Because of the open air nature of these sands, when there is a clutch of eggs on said sands, riders will erect a structure around the golds and their eggs to protect them from the elements.

These are the beaches that line the cliff, and stretch far along the ocean edges of the Southern Continent. The sands are clean and pristine, a light grayish color starting at where sand and ocean meet, and ending up near black at the cliff's edge. The sand has achieved this coloration due to eroded volcanic materials such as lava, basalt, and other dark-colored rocks and minerals. As one moves further away from the Weyr, they can encounter small coves and caves, although the majority of them can be difficult to get to. By and large, the beach is frequently filled with people, who wish to sunbathe, play in the sand, swim, or hunt for wild firelizard nests.

Mating flights are simply a part of Weyr life. Always have been, always will be. Whenever a member wishes to play out the mating flight of a dragon or firelizard, it will take place in this forum. Please make sure you use spoilers for any mature - NSFW - content.

Southern Hold's courtyard also doubles as a beach. There is a stone and wood boardwalk where Gather stalls can set up while facing outwards to the ocean view. Behind this is a large paved area that has a small garden in the middle with a pond and benches surrounding it.

Located not far, but overlooking, the Courtyard is the stone building that hosts the Kitchens and Dining hall for the Hold.

Scattered throughout the Hold are huts of varying sizes made of different materials. Some wood, some stone, some a mix of both. There are even some boarding closer to the Weyr than the actual Hold based on various jobs at the Weyr and Holders.

The Docks are located between both Weyr and Hold as they supply both. Yet it is the Holders who oversee and run the daily life of the Docks. A Fisher Hall was formed here and Ship-Fish have also returned and are working with Fishers.

Landing is where the First colonists of Pern 'Landed' and made home. It is built into a long dead Volcano and is Home to the Star Craft Masters.

Anywhere in Southern you will find these dense jungles until you reach the most Southern Mountains and the climate changes drastically.

Honshu Weyrhold was the first of its kind, a Weyrhold. It is located in the Barrier Range in the western part of the Southern Continent.

Here, you'll find two different things: One is the Flitt Postal Service, where you can write letters between two or more characters. The second is the Bulletin Board, that primarily concerns the weyrlings, wyvlings, wherlings and candidates.
