Monthly Meeting

Date:     Wednesday, April 8, 2026
Time:     6:30 pm
Place:    Quail Creek Kino Center, Ocotillo Room

Tom Cadwalader will give members and guests a look into the exciting world of editing digital images.  Many photographers are editing (post processing) their images today, all sorts of images.  Not just RAW images but even those shot in JPEG or HEIF with a phone camera.  Tom will be talking about and demonstrating what all of this is about. He will present a structured approach to post processing: One where a few basic changes to the image give powerful results.  He will demonstrate editing JPEG and RAW images using both free software and Adobe Lightroom.

Tom grew up in Northeastern Pennsylvania and started working for Procter & Gamble there. He later transferred to Cincinnati, Ohio to work on converting equipment development and retired from there in 1999.  His interest in photography became much more involved once he and his wife started traveling by RV and visiting so many exciting places.

Q2 2026 Photo Challenge

The member’s Quarterly Photo Challenge runs from Apr 1, 2026 to June 30, 2026.

The Q2 2026 Member's Challenge topic is Color.

Guidelines:  The new challenge is … COLOR.

This topic is as broad as a photo topic can get so to give you some context, here are some example themes:

Monochromatic images - not black and white but most of the colors come from a small segment of the color wheel

Complimentary Colors - colors are mainly from opposite ends of the color wheel.  You can see a color wheel in the example photo.

Primary Colors -  usually this means Red, Green and Blue

Nature's Palette - colors you see in nature

Pastel vs Vibrant - pastels are soothing; vibrants are high energy.

Portraits Using Color - people can be colorful too if they dress that way

City Lights- street scenes at night are especially vibrant after a rain

Abstract Colors - some photos are naturally abstract or you can use software to add colors where you would not expect them

Dominant Color - we've had the topic of dominant color in the past (25 Q3, 22 Q2 - you can look in the Contest tab above).  Basically, it is a single color that jumps out at the viewer.  You can enhance this by saturating the dominant color and desaturating the rest.

Color Chaos - a cacophony of colors concentrating on the chaotic

Look at the slideshow above for some examples.

Have fun,

Denny

Send up to 3 photos taken during the quarter to QuarterlyChallenge at gmail dot com.

Remember, any post processing is allowed.  If you add elements from another photo (like sky replacement) those elements must have been photographed by you within the quarter.

Use of AI is limited to removing unwanted objects (like people) from your photo.  For example the Remove Tool in Photoshop.  But please do not use AI to add anything (say, a dragon flying across the sky!)
