Hey all, we hope you’re doing great!
We’ve been having a bit of a think, and we’ve decided to change the theme for this year a little.
We’ve realised that “tiki" is a very particular aesthetic, and that it’s possibly confusing, or at least not the easiest one for attendees to latch on to — it’s historical, and rooted in very specific kinds of 1950s and ’60s Americana, which people coming to Pawsome won’t necessarily have the wardrobe for, for example. We’ve heard comments from a few of our members to this effect.
And while nobody’s complained about this — nor have we seen anything we’d be worried about in the community — we’re keenly aware that there are certain elements of the traditional “tiki” aesthetic that might skirt cultural appropriation, which definitely isn’t what we’re about.
We hear you, and we're not the kind of people not to change what needs be changed — as we hope our feedback reports have shown! We think relaxing the theme and making things more accessible for everybody is the best plan for this year, so that everyone can have the most fun.
