Chapter 10: Rolling with the Shit Life Keeps Throwing at You.

Pete moved quickly through the woods, me following closely behind him, taking the same path we had on my second day at the Village. Pete swiftly dodged branches and moved at a quick trot the entire way. The only difference between today and my last visit to the garage was that today there was no hiding; today I followed Pete straight up to the garage door.

"Matt, you open this fucking door now!" Pete threatened, pounding at the wooden doorframe. "Matt!"

"Pete. How do you know it was even them?" I asked. Pete turned and looked at me. A strange golden wildness lurked behind his eyes, something akin to blind rage mixed with intense anger.

"Patrick, I just do." He said, banging on the door again. "I know Matt better then anyone. This is something he would do."

I don’t think the realization of what had occurred had hit me until that exact moment, because I felt my knees begin to give out from underneath me. When Nicole had first told us that Gabe and Ryan had gone missing I hadn’t realized the seriousness of the matter, but now it was all hitting me. My baby brother was missing and, in a way, so was Pete's. As if the world hadn't shit on me enough over these past few weeks, it felt the need to keep the punches coming.

"Is there a reason you're beating up my house?" A voice called from behind us. We both turned around fast to see Matt and the boys from the other day standing there.

"Give them back Matty, and we'll leave." Pete said sternly, even though adding the 'Matty' might not have been the best choice.

"Give who back?" He said smirking, the tall boy to the right of him tapping a baseball bat against his heel. "I have absolutely no clue what you mean."

"You know damn well what I mean!" Pete bellowed, marching up until he was about an inch away from the group. "Give them back."

"Give. Who. Back." Matt whispered, leaning into Pete. I saw Pete's eyes flutter shut slowly as Matt leaned in to kiss him, before a pang of jealousy hit me like a load of bricks and I some how found the courage to talk.

"Give back Gabe and Ryan, you sadistic fuck!" I yelled, Pete's eyes snapping open before he took a step back.

"Well; the boy-girl speaks." Matt said, strutting slowly towards me. I cowered back momentarily before clenching my fists, drawing courage from somewhere I have yet to locate. "Why would I take them?"

"Cause you're an ass like that." Pete said stepping between us. "Now, give them back."

"Aww, I see." Matt said lifting his index finger and poking Pete in the shoulder. "Peter Pan is protecting his little Wendy. How cute. It's nice to see you finally moving on, although I can't say you'll ever be able to find a better fuck then me."

"Shut the fuck up." Pete said coldly. "You're an abusive rapist and you have two things that don't belong to you."

"Well," He paused, slipping both of his thumbs into his front belt loops and puffing his chest out. "Technically one of those things belongs to me, and you know you wanted it."

"Remember when you used to tell me you loved me?" Pete said with a smirk, earning a few snickers from the boys in front of us. "You would do all this cute mushy stuff and you would hold my hand. What happened to you Matty?"

"I grew the fuck up." Matt said coldly, pulling his hood over his slicked hair and turning around swiftly. "Gabe is tied up in an abandoned car up near the Jordan Apartments, by Travis's."

"And Ryan?" Pete said, not missing a beat.

"Ryan's mine." Matt said, looking over his shoulder. The rest of the boys made their way to the car they had pulled up in. "Now you two will leave, and the next time you come back here, you'll be sorry."

"Matt you can't do this, please, give me back Ryan." Pete said, sighing. His hands started to shake and I began to think he was contemplating begging. "Give him back."

Matt stopped in his tracks and turned around ever so slowly. "Why do you want my brother so bad Pete?" He asked, genuinely puzzled before adding an off-handed remark. "Is it because your family fucked you over so bad? Or maybe 'cause they let you go and you can't have your brothers. Oh wait; your brother is you, they replaced you; they didn’t want you, they didn’t look for you."

"Just give him back Matty." Pete pleaded, on the brink of tears. Matt was pulling at Pete's heartstrings, the things that irked him the most. "Ryan is better off with me than you, you know that."

"So what?" Matt said shrugging. "Maybe I want the last bit of family I have left. First I lost my mom and then I lost you and now you won't even let me have my baby brother."

"Matt," Pete said lowly, walking closer and reaching a hand out to touch his arm lightly. "You never lost me; I'm always here."

Matt smiled slowly and seemingly leaned into Pete's touch, and for a second, I thought I saw the boy from all the pictures and from Pete's numerous stories. But it didn't last long. Matt pulled away roughly and look down at his shoes.

"That's all just a load of shit." He said, as if he hadn't meant a word that had come out of his mouth not a second before. "You want him so bad," He stated more then asked walking to the car and pulling the small sleeping form of Ryan out. "Fucking take him and go."

Matt dropped Ryan to the gravel road with a resounding 'thud' before getting into the driver's seat of the car and starting the engine with a roar. The car sped off into the night leaving Pete completely lost, Ryan crying, and me still in shock over the whole ordeal.
