Dedication:
rock_mocker for the song prompt. :D
Author's Note: The song is by a band called Sick Puppies. You've probably heard the song on the Free Hugs Campaign video. If you have no idea what I'm talking about go to youtube and search Free Hugs. It's probably one of the most amazig videos I've ever seen. Also! I'm not too sure about how this turned out, so feedback would be lovely.
Disclaimer: Don't know, don't own, blah blah blah.
I don't mind where you come from
As long as you come to me
But I don't like illusions
I can't see them clearly
I don't care, No I wouldn't dare
To fix the twist in you
You shown me eventually what you'll do.
Peter had always had a series of quirks. He’d always been odd, even growing up he’d been different from others. It didn’t stop once he got older, and if anything the quirks worsened into ticks of sorts. He was obsessive. Whether it was over a video game, a person, or an idea, once something was in his mind, he didn’t let it go. He had a horrible case of insomnia. He rarely slept through an entire night, staying up later than everyone running instead on three hours of sleep and enough caffeine to fuel the average person for days. He was a notorious flirt. He was sarcastic and cynical both defense mechanisms for dealing with all of his insecurities.
Patrick on the other hand was what most people would consider average. Growing up he was always the smart kid. While being the ‘nerd’ didn’t make you scores of friends, he’d managed with a small group of close friends. He was laid back, letting things roll off his shoulders, hardly ever getting worked up, finding it a waste of energy. He was easy going and optimistic, fun to be around. Patrick knew about Peter’s ticks. He’d known about them since he met him, they were blatantly obvious. At first they bothered him. He would observe Peter from a distance watching as he saw Peter making vital mistakes in his life. After awhile he could no longer sit back and let him make the mistakes, stepping in trying to sort out his problems for him. Eventually, Patrick realized that this would not work. Peter was hard headed and stubborn and would not change for anybody. And Patrick grew to love that about him.
I don't mind, I don't care
As long as you're here
Go ahead tell me you'll leave again
You'll just come back running,
Holding your scarred Heart in Hand
It's all the same
And I'll take you for who you are
If you take me for everything
Do it all over again
It's all the same.
Patrick had always held onto the secret hope that one day he and Peter would be together. In his eyes it was destiny. Nobody else understood Peter the way Patrick did. Nobody else accepted his quirks and oddities. It was obvious, if only Peter would see it. Still, Peter remained blind to the fact that Patrick was perfect for him. Peter went from relationship to relationship. Ending one and within a few days, starting another. He could not be alone. The obsessive part of him would take over and he would think of nothing else beyond the person he was with at the time. But it was always the same. Unknowingly the person wasn’t just getting Peter they were getting all of his quirks. Almost like clockwork, a few months into the ‘relationship’ the other person would realize they just couldn’t handle him, and they would leave. Peter would turn to Patrick. Faithful Patrick who was always there to mend his broke heart. Patrick, who would accept him no matter what. Patrick, who loved him during his highs and his lows. Yet Patrick didn’t mind, because for once he felt useful. For once he wasn’t a nobody. For once Peter saw him. And all of the oddities, the quirks, the ticks, they were worth it, because for a few days Patrick was the one Pete was obsessing over.
Hours fly and days go by
'Till you decide to come
And in between
It always seems to move on sudden
But I have the skill
And I have the will
To breathe you in while I can
However long you stay
Is all that I am.
It was always the same routine. Peter, usually buzzed, would slip into Patrick’s bed somewhere around three or four in the morning. He would hug Patrick, spooning against him, face buried in his back. Then, and only then would he start to cry, his tears soaking through Patrick’s shirt. This went on until Patrick woke up. He would roll over and look at Pete, wrapping his arms tight around him, as if trying to hug away the hurt. Then Peter would start telling Patrick everything he’d done wrong, all of the reasons why he was a horrible person. And Patrick, while having observed many of these actions, knowing at the time they were wrong, would shake his head and reassure Peter that the one person he was meant for was still out there. Telling him that he couldn’t give up looking now, because what if his soul mate was standing right in front of him? He told him that he had to experience pain to be able to understand the joy of true love. Patrick really didn’t know where the words came from, but they seemed to help, so he kept talking. Usually, around the time the sun was peaking over the horizon, Peter would have calmed down enough to sleep. Thanking Patrick, and telling him how amazing he was, he would give himself over to the darkness. Patrick usually watched him sleep for awhile before letting himself fall back to sleep.
I don't mind, I don't care
As long as you're here
Go ahead tell me you'll leave again
You'll just come back running
Holding your scarred Heart in Hand
It's all the same
And I'll take you for who you are
If you take me for everything
Do it all over again
It's always the same.
Andy and Joe told Patrick that he was being stupid about the situation. They told him that he was only setting himself up for failure. But Patrick knew this. Patrick knew that he changed during the few days when Peter was interested in him. He became obsessive, always worrying what Peter thought, where he was, what he was doing. He didn’t sleep well, instead staying up late with Pete, sharing secrets and philosophies on life, like they’d done back before the time of relationships. Back when they were just two friends who trusted each other with every detail of their lives. But none of it mattered. Despite his best efforts, Peter always found someone else. He wouldn’t ever tell him that he was with someone new, but when a random person starting showing up at events, and when Peter stopped sleeping in Patrick’s bed, he knew it was over. Or rather that it was just the beginning. Patrick started his countdown again.
Patrick had his reasons, and when asked by Andy or Joe why he still did it, or why he didn’t just drop Pete on his ass, and stop letting Pete use him, he would mumble something and walk away, telling them they just didn’t understand. And they didn’t. They didn’t know what it was like to be the center of Pete Wentz’s world, the one he worshiped, even if it was only for a few days at a time. They didn’t know what it was like to secretly hope that this time was the time. That something he said this time would make it all click in Pete’s mind and he would wake up and see what was right in front of him. They didn’t understand that no matter what Patrick would always wait for Pete, because one day Pete was bound to figure it out. One day Pete would look at Patrick and realize that he was the one, and Patrick couldn’t give up the hope that it was the next time. He couldn’t shake the thought of not being there the one time Peter really needed him, thus loosing him forever. And so the cycle continued.
