title ; the hospital chapel. prologue/preview.
rating ; chapter--PG, story--through R.
pairings ; pete/patrick.
summary ; Patrick had known his brother was gay for a time; long before he knew that it was a sin...
warnings ; this is a religion fic. I know that they can get touchy if done wrong, and I've seen major fights break out over them. Be the mature adults and teenagers I know that you're pretending to be, and if you don't like this story, don't comment. I'm not usually mean or stern, but, be realistic guys. Nobody's forcing you to comment.
deadications ; to
lovelyloveleave who will get emotionally caught up and obsessed with this story; and to
xxdance because she never made fun of me changing my name so much!
Patrick knew that his brother was gay for a time; long before he knew it was a sin. He later knew and understood that was why, at the time, Kevin had begged him not to breathe a word to anyone. Patrick, for fear of the ultimate ways that older brothers can take revenge on you (most of them just those stupid fifth grade rumours), nodded and swore up and down, and even swore to God (which caused this palness and bitter look to adorn Kevin's face) that he would never tell anyone. And it was hard sometimes. Like those nights that Patrick had to ward off Dave and Patti Stumph from going upstairs, because Kevin had his "boyfriends who were just friends" in his room, and for some reason, he was terrified of introducing his friends to his parents.
"Kev, why do you walk like that?" Patrick asked, tilting his head and standing back so he could fully observe the occasional bow-leggedness of his sibling.
Kevin blushed and laughed, sucessfully avoiding the question by throwing a pillow at his brother and engaging the born-with ADD that a child loses as he gets older.
This secret, this duty of Patrick's continued on for several some odd years, and carried Patrick past his middle school years and the first grades of high school. His knowledge had barely expanded on the subject, but he ran home in his last few days of eighth grade, shouting that he had seen two boys kissing in the bathroom. The somewhat-overly-religious Stumph's were outraged, and took it to the administrators of Chicago schools, but they rejected the protest--obviously.
Thus was the reason that Patrick and Kevin started the Chicago Christian Academy for Young Christians (repetitive much?), nicknamed KayCee (CCAYC) by the students. It was enjoyable, for the most part; Patrick learned that, as a good Christian, he was to give hs all to God and turn away fro the temptation of sin. He repeated back the lessons to his brother on the ride home, and Kevin just tightened his hold on his friend's hand, looking angrier and angrier as Patrick went further and further. Summer arrived of Patrick's sophmore year, and things exploded. He ran out of the house before the fight went full-scale, but from what he understood, Kevin was the single thing that Patrick was supposed to want to Save; Kevin Stumph was a sinner.
