Chapter 1
"H-Hey." I managed to stammer out. Believe me, it was actually a big achievement, being able to talk at all.
“I was wondering if you were going to tell any of us about that, especially me. I thought we were closer then that, don’t you trust me?
I hung my head in shame. I mean, I really do trust Andy. He has grown to be a big brother to me the past years.
“I wasn’t really sure of how I felt. That’s why I didn’t tell you.” I looked up at the extremely hurt and slightly angry vegan.
“That’s bullshit Patrick!” His voice was rising. “You know you are totally and comple-” Before he could say anything more I grabbed him by the shirt and yanked him into my “bubble.” I checked to make sure that there was no sign of Pete around before I turned back to Andy. And when I did he finished his sentence, “and completely in love with Pete.”
“You know I’m not like that.” He didn’t say anything, only stared at me with that look that people give you when they know that you are lying.
A few minutes passed and he was still staring at me. I was getting kind of nervous and found the opposing wall very interesting. He sighed and said “Did you know, that on Pete’s laptop there is a folder titled ‘Things I Love About Patrick’? “Have you ever noticed that he talks about you-”
“Well of course he does! We are in a band together Andy. I’m sure he brings up you and Joe all the-“
“In his sleep?” He raised his eyebrow. I’m pretty sure that I sat there looking like a deer caught in headlights for some time. I shook my head, and cleared my throat.
“How do you know this? I didn’t know you paid that much attention to him. Honestly, I always thought you didn’t pay attention to him since you always said you didn’t give a shit about what he does.”
He smiled slightly, “You’re right. I don’t pay loads of attention to him, and I don’t know if anything I’ve said about him is true. How are you going to know unless you tell him how you feel?”
“Andy, that’s not fair! If he felt the same way about me, he would have told me by now. He’s Pete, he’s not exactly subtle.”
He contemplated this for a while, “He probably thinks the same way you do. Maybe he is scared to tell you or scared to make a move. He probably thinks that you don’t feel the same way and if his makes a move you will reject him and it would break up your friendship and possibly break up the band.”
I thought about what he said for a while before he slowly exited my bunk. Should I tell him? What happens if I do? Confusion and anxiety clouded my mind, and all I could do was sit there and listen to Pete as he laughed every few minutes at some stupid cartoon that some how grabbed his attention long enough to not notice Andy and I talking.
