Summery: Pete is Patrick's english teacher. He starts to develop a crush on the very straight boy. What happens when people start to think they're together?
Rating:im not good at these, but possibly G, maybe PG-13 for some swears
(A/N: This is much shorter than the last chapter, and was written very early in the morning, so sorry if something doesn't make sense)
Before it gets any better The only thing that gets Pete through the rest of his time off (and the inquiries) is the fact that Patrick calls him almost daily and texts him constantly. And Pete knows that this is going to end badly. That they should have decided to keep their relationship to one of a teacher and student. Only seeing and talking to each other in a classroom environment. Fuck, Pete knows that he should have made that decision for them. He’s supposed to be the adult. The responsible one. He should never have wanted to get to know Patrick in a friendly sense. Should have only ever have seen him in a classroom. And he defiantly should never have thought about how after Patrick graduates they can hang out wherever they want, and not be too worried about where they go or who sees them. On the Saturday before Pete goes back to work he opens the door to find a smiling Patrick. He quickly ushers him in and leans against the door when it closes. Without opening his eyes he can tell Patrick’s staring at him. “How did you get your parents to let you out?” “I may have changed your name to Lisa on my phone. And my mom kinda read my texts, looked at my call history blah blah blah. And she said that it’s obvious that even if we did have a thing, I’m not hung up on you, and not trying to ‘blame myself’ or whatever. We had the whole ‘talk’, and then she was all, ‘well you obviously like this Lisa girl. Go. Hang out. Do whatever you kids do these days.’” “She didn’t say that last part did she?” “Dude. She totally did. Cross my heart.” They start laughing for no obvious reason. And just like that they’re back to the way they were before everything. Well, it’s the same, but somehow completely different. They avoid talking about Pete’s love life, (which used to be a topic that provided hours of entertainment) and there are moments. Or what Pete thinks are moments. When Patrick just ignore then, Pete figures that it’s just his imagination. Wishful thinking on his part. We all learn to make mistakes Two weeks after Pete comes back to school they can be pretty much the same as before there as well. Sure, they still get some strange looks and they have a different way of behaving there as well. But Pete is certain, that if they continue to hang out at the frequency with which they do, then he’s going to slip up, do something he regrets. Royally fuck things up as it were. As soon as he starts worrying about all the ways he can fuck things up, he does. Exactly five weeks after Patrick turned up at his doorstep crying, the same thing happens again. Only this time he doesn’t even seem to notice the tears. He’s staring into the distance, the tears simply running down his cheeks unchecked. Pete doesn’t even think before pulling him inside. He sets the crying boy on the couch and sits next to him. Simply wrapping his arms around him when Patrick buries his face in Pete’s neck. What feels like hours later, Patrick finally sits up wiping at his face sniffling. Pete rubs at his back and grips his knee, waiting for Patrick to speak. “My Gran has cancer. My parents are going up to stay with her. But I have to stay here, cause of school and stuff.” At the end of his sentence Pete sees Patrick start to tear up again. He can’t make it better, make it hurt less, make it so nothing ever hurts Patrick ever again. He can’t do any of those things, and it hurts that he can’t. “I kind of need a place to stay for like two weeks.” And Pete knows what Patrick is trying to ask. Knows that he should say no. Knows that he should put him up with his own parents. Do anything so that Patrick isn’t basically living with him for two weeks. He knows that it can only end badly. “You can stay here if you want.” Pete knows that it’s a mistake, but when he sees the smile on Patrick’s face, the trust etched on his face, the joy, the fucking love. He just can’t find the will to admit to himself that it is a mistake. How can something that makes someone so happy, (makes two people so happy) and something that feels so right. How can that possibly be a mistake?
