UhLittleLessDum was created by a single developer after he left a career in software to pursue his own physics research. Over the 2+ years it took to formalize a theory based upon a potentially flawed assumption made in the early days of relativity, he became homeless. While working on this new model of relativity while living in a barely running car with his puppy, he continued to add features to a personal application built to help organize his own research.That note taking application, now called UhLittleLessDum, has been reorganized into a plugin style architecture to support far more than just STEM related research, and is available for free at <a href="http://uhlittlelessdum.com" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">uhLittleLessDum.com</a> without even requiring a sign up form or an email address.While many other features are in progress and under active development, features available on launch day include:<ul><li>Notes written in mdx. Mdx is an extension of markdown that supports adding React components directly in markdown content. While the user can provide additional React components, a robust collection of components are provided for the user out of the box to handle everything from different layouts, modals, tooltips, plots, equations, links, tags and much, much more.</li><li>Directory wide search and organization: Just tell ULLD which directory you are storing your notes in, and ULLD will do the rest. Any file with a .mdx, .csv, .tsv, .pdf, .bib, .csl or any image formats in this directory immediately become available within the application. Support for other types of tabular and numerical data is in the works.</li><li>Interactive Plotting: Interactive plots can be added either through any of the plot related React components directly inside of a .mdx file, or by using the provided Jupyter related components to display the output of a Jupyter cell.</li><li>Linking and Navigation: One of the primary motivations for ULLD was the lack of searchability and cohesiveness in other note taking frameworks. User's can set tags, topics or subjects based on the directory of the note automatically, or by using a simple markdown syntax described <a href="http://uhlittlelessdum.com/docs/user/syntax" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">here</a>. </li><li>Bibliography Management: A full bibliography manager is included as part of ULLD. By simply defining a single .bib file somewhere in the user's note directory and an optional .csl citation format file, ULLD can automatically generate formatted citations, search notes based on citations, and create notes linked directly to a single citation for annotation and research purposes.</li><li>Task Manager: ULLD includes an integrated task manager, with the ability to create multiple lists and associate lists with specific tags or specific notes. There's an app wide task manager, but user's can also embed specific lists or even a subset of items within their .mdx note using the provided React component.</li><li>Equation based searching and navigation: Searching by plain text works well in most cases, but for output displaying math related content, the rendered content is often quite different than the latex used to generate that content. ULLD includes the ability to add equation specific tags and then search based on those tags and equations dynamically from directly within a note, through the app's command palette, or from the equation specific page.</li><li>Optional integration with third party services: There is day one support for integration with Google Calendar, but integration with third party task management apps and other services is planned for the near future.</li></ul>
