Who Are You? I’m Esteban (also known as <a href="https://twitter.com/TheBesteban">TheBesteban</a>) and since 2012, I’ve been taking my camera around the world to tell the stories of the games and people that make up the fighting game community. You may be familiar with my work with videos such as <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT1An_ubWqU">Souls &amp; Swords</a>, <a href="https://youtu.be/vya3FDVHiio">Stay Free: The Team Spooky Story</a>, and <a href="https://youtu.be/AkdCdrzj7Ik">FGC: Rise of the Fighting Game Community</a>. Now, with your help, I’d like to take the next step and build a whole platform for our stories to shine and be shared with the world. What's Hold Back To Block and Why Bring It To Patreon? The majority of FGC history is still mostly orally told and spread out all over the world. As the community continues to grow, the risk of losing that history remains high. Hold Back To Block’s goal is to go out and find those stories and document our past, examine our present, and look forward to the future through documentaries. I want to create a platform that’s powered primarily through crowdfunding so our stories can be told to their fullest, without the worry of sponsorship obligations or ad revenue. Want to know how your favorite player got started or how some of the FGC’s biggest events are put together? What about the stories behind some of the biggest rivalries or even how your favorite fighting game was made? With your help, any of these ideas (and more) are possible! I’m new to Patreon. How does this work? All of our docs will be free on Youtube for everyone to watch, but by supporting us you’ll get access to bonus patron only extras such as behind the scenes videos, early access to content, extended interviews, and much more! Where exactly does your money go to? Your patronage will go straight into the production of our videos and content for things like: covering travel costs, licensing music, hiring additional videographers and editors, transcribing interviews for closed captions, and other costs needed to bring these stories to life and accessible for a wide array of audiences. How often should we expect videos? To start, we’ll be aiming for a documentary every 2 - 3 months. I would LOVE to do this full time and bring you all more videos at a faster rate, but the reality is that I’ll be balancing Hold Back To Block with my current client work. So, let's get those pledges high enough where we can make this happen! Can you actually do this? Absolutely! I’m an experienced videographer and editor that has worked both solo and with teams in the FGC since 2012. In the last year alone, I’ve traveled over 100,000 miles and built unique relationships among players, tournament organizers, developers, and more that uniquely qualify me in this endeavor. I've been waiting to do something like this my whole life and now together with your help, I can!
