No internet at present. I'll post this later, maybe. They had to have the cable modem over at the new house to test the internet there. So I admit I'm annoyed; I have to wait until the modem appears back here to be able to connect at all and it's not like there is anything else to do! All the books are packed - even the ones I bought last week. There are a few random things that need to go into boxes but they really are exactly that - a few very random things. (Well, that, and a few dishes.) I don't know what's for dinner, I really don't want ham sandwiches because I know we'll have to have that tomorrow for lunch. I kind of want Chinese but it's a bit of a drive and I just don't. feel. like. driving. *contemplates sending Sam for teh takeout*
When I was heading back over here after waiting for the refrigerator delivery (they were late, see below), my street was closed about, oh, 300 yards from my house. So I had to take a long-ass detour just to get home and sit down on the couch.
The refrigerator delivery. Delivery window between 1:15 and 3:15. Got a call at 12:30 saying it would be between one and a half and two hours before the delivery. I interpreted this to mean 2 or 2:30, logically. At 2:45, I got a call that said we were the next stop, and they'd be there within 30 minutes. At 3:35, they finally pulled up. Not impressed, delivery men, not impressed at all.
So then I came back here with Gillian, leaving Sam to supervise the cable installer, who was reluctantly doing what we had asked for (because the person who took our order had written it down all wrong, apparently, and the guy wasn't prepared for the job he had to do. I feel sorry for whomever was supposed to get some kind of installation after us. He was even early and he's still there at 5:45. *headdesk* Apparently he's done a good job (says Sam), he's just slower than Christmas. Obviously.
Tomorrow Gillian's spending the day with someone from Mothers & More and her two daughters, so that is good, she'll not be underfoot.
Things are odd, I haven't properly talked to
Gillian likes to use made up words sometimes, and she seems to expect me to know what, for instance, a 'quabadeen' is. If someone does know, please enlighten me, I'd understand much more when Gillian says, "But that's a quabadeen." There are other words of course but that is the most recent example.
Temped, oh so tempted, by the siren call of QaF S3 at Borders today. Resisted, thinking firmly of PoAt00bage in RI. I'll just order MSCL instead or something, it's cheaper and handily would come directly to my doorstep.
Speaking of doorsteps, my mail still arrived here today, and it was supposed to start forwarding. I think I'll just have to go to the post office, I don't know the number to call. *sigh* I hate the United States Postal Service sometimes. They totally screwed up our forwarding the last time we moved, too. Oh, fuck, I just remembered, I'm going to have to go in and change my address verbally with the bank, or my check card will be all farked up. Bleh.
It's now nearly six o'clock. Still have no idea about dinner. I just so don't want a ham sandwich. Not enough, little kiddies, not enough food by far.
Also, daylight savings time kicked my arse this morning. I woke up the same time I had been, when the sun was shining in, but of course I was like "d00d, not 8 yet," and went back to sleep, so of course I didn't get up until, what, nearly 9? In retrospect this might have been a boon, however, as it was less hours to try to entertain Gillian in a nearly toyless house. It's a catch-22; there is at least something to amuse me here, but nothing for G; at the new house, there are lots of toys for Gillian, but just about zero for me.
The coolest thing, though, is that I'll have a) a little dormer window I can sit beside and read and/or be on the laptop; and b) my very own cupboard under the stairs. It has shelves, though, so I don't think any cots would fit inside. No playing Harry Potter, alas. ;)
Also, why is it only 61°F here? Has the weather forgotten that it is APRIL? It was warmer here last month! Also, why does the Weather Channel on the tv not give Celsius temperatures. I am all confused because I get my forecast in Celsius online. (Does anyone else remember being taught that 'C' meant either 'Celsius' or 'Centigrade'? No one uses Centigrade anymore, that I know of. I feel old, or something.)
Maybe I'll turn on the news. Since I can't access the news online, which is what I usually do. I just don't turn on the tv - I can get my weather forecast online, the news online, etc. *flails, feels cut off* Even when I can't sit down for more than five minutes, I'll check the news a lot of times. Ugh blat.
And EVERYONE SHOULD BE CHEERING FOR THE YELLOW JACKETS TONIGHT! <3333 MY COLLEGE'S ATHLETES CAN SPEAK IN COMPLETE SENTENCES AND PASS THEIR OWN CLASSES AND GO TO THE FINAL GAME, CAN YOURS?!? :D
!! Celebrate! Cable modem returns!
