Jailbreaking is absolutely still worth it, even for normal users. It's not just for changing the looks like people think, there's a lot of useful functionality you can get, some of it you don't even know you want. Here are some things you can do: - for iPhones/iPods with a home button: you can get iPhone X style gestures. They're much more fluid and comfortable. Going through apps is much easier by swiping than applying pressure, same applies to closing apps or using the app switcher. If you try using those gestures, it's hard to go back. - for all iPhones and iPods: you can get iPad-exclusive features like the dock, multitasking, Picture in Picture etc. - for devices with a high resolution screen: you can enable 2K and 4K videos on YouTube instead of being limited to 1080p. - for all devices: 1. you can control app background management. You can give selected apps the ability to run in the background without them getting killed. This is very useful when you're doing a specific task and for a moment you want to leave the app to do something else. 2. You can get app windows, proper windows, the ones you can resize, minimize, close and move around your screen. This makes multitasking way better, especially on bigger screens. It can also be used as an alternative to backgrounding. 3. You can use multiple "slices" of the same app, like for example, having multiple accounts when you're only allowed to use one at a time with Slices. 4. You can add gestures to video players, to easily play/pause or move around the video with VideoSwipes. 5. You can enhance Safari a million times with Safari Plus. With it you can do video downloading, always use the default iOS video player (to avoid ads for example!), find the URL of the video you're streaming, use custom search engines, custom user agents, add gestures and a ton of other useful features. 6. You can enhance WhatsApp, with tweaks like Watusi. 7. You can see how much size each photo or video is taking with PhotoSize. 8. You can have a proper file manager (Filza) that allows you to see and edit the files of every app of even the system (use with caution!). 9. You can erase/backup/restore app data (App Manager). 10. You can spoof your location with tweaks like Relocate or GPSCheat. 11. One little thing I've been working on lately: screenshotting videos from streaming services (and maybe screen recording too! for fair use only pls) 12. Protecting your device from thieves with tweaks like iCaughtU Pro or CatchaThief! 13. Using the current time as your passcode with tweaks like TimeToUnlock. 14. Limiting device functionality if a certain passcode is entered LendMyPhone. 15. Locking individual apps with tweaks like BioProtect. 16. Getting rid of the annoying call menu with tweaks like CallBar or CallDismiss. Things for power users: 1. Being connected to their device remotely using SSH and/or copying files around with SFTP/SCP. SSH isn't exactly remote control of the kind that allows you to manipulate the screen directly, but you can do almost anything you want with it, you just have to trigger what you want without touching the screen. If you port forward (or use a server in the middle), you can even do those things when you're outside. You could use your device as a home monitoring tool for example. 2. You can debug, extract hidden information, or "hack" the functionality of apps. It doesn't require knowing how to code for this, not with tweaks like Flex, FLEXing/FLEXible/etc, Filza etc. This list doesn't cover everything, as jailbreaking opens up infinite possibilities. Almost everything you can imagine can probably be done, if not already done.
