The CanCred Passport platform was upgraded this morning and now includes a mobile app for iOS and Android!

All the functionality of the web application now lies in the palm of your hand.

This app was developed by our partners at Open Badge Factory Solutions. It can be used to access not only CanCred Passport, but also Open Badge Passport and several other Dedicated Passports, including myHPass in the humanitarian sector. (Note: eCampusOntario Passport does not support the mobile app at this time.)

Here’s how to get started with the CanCred Passport app:

Download the “Open Badge Passport” mobile app from CanCred Passport’s web login screen or directly from Google Play or iTunes.

Install the app and select CanCred Passport from the list of Passports that appears.

Login and authorize the app.

Now take your Passport wherever you and your mobile phone go!

the ability to share a badge URL immediately to LinkedIn and other social media without the need to register on a backpack or passport

CanCred becomes IMS Certified for Open Badges v2.0

CanCred is pleased to announce that we have achieved official certification for Open Badges version 2.0 in all three available categories:

Issuer, for CanCred Factory

Displayer, for CanCred Passport

Host, for CanCred Passport

According to IMS Global Learning Consortium, stewards of the Open Badge standard:

“… certification for Open Badges 2.0 demands features and capabilities beyond those that are strictly required by the specification…. Gaining this certification is expected to be more difficult than simply meeting the minimum requirements for producing a valid Open Badge.”

Because CanCred is powered by the innovative code in the already-certified platforms Open Badge Factory and Open Badge Passport, this “difficult” certification comes as no surprise.

But we felt it was important to communicate clearly to the credentialing and recognition community how well CanCred supports Open Badges.

Bilingual service in a bilingual country

CanCred has completed the process of becoming a bilingual cloud service for all Canadians:

the CanCred website is now published in English and French.

the CanCred Factory and CanCred Passport platforms offer service in both languages.

CanCred Factory is one of the few Open Badge platforms in the world with the capability of producing multilingual badges featuring English and French. Our badges can also be simultaneously published in Cree, Ojibway, Inuktitut and many other of the languages spoken by our diverse population in Canada.

Presentation at IMS Digital Credentials Summit

Don Presant, President of CanCred by Learning Agents, was proud to partner with Michel Singh, CTO, eCampusOntario on a presentation at IMS Global Learning Consortium’s Digital Credentials Summit in Tempe, Arizona. The presentation focused on collaborative approaches to issuing and recognizing badges that leverage the advantages of CanCred technology and eCampusOntario’s network of post-secondary institutions:

Rethinking Recognition with Open Badges 2.0: Endorsement and Collaborative Issuing Networks

eCampusOntario is the edtech network of excellence for Ontario’s 45 publicly funded colleges and universities. The network has been working with its member institutions and CanCred.ca, the Canadian partner of Open Badge Factory (OBF), to “rethink recognition”.

This rethink leverages some exciting features of Open Badges 2.0 implemented by OBF’s IMS certified technology, such as Alignment and Endorsement, along with other features native to OBF and CanCred, such as collaborative badge issuing. The result is an emerging badge network, where badges converge on a provincial recognition hub, the eCampusOntario Passport.

Sample slide:
