It occurred to me today that I have an LJ that I haven't touched in like... oh, god, 2 years. I'm so sorry.

I wish I had something interesting to report, any big changes, anything other than life is as life does. I've had ups and downs, like everyone has had I imagine. Alex is seven now and in first grade. Being a mother to a child with special needs is pretty much my full time job. I still have no direction in life aside from simply living it and enjoying it. I haven't found any deep set, all consuming need to contribute to society in any major way.

The most important things to know about me is that I'm healing and I'm stable. There's not much else to say but if anyone's wants to catch up on details, they're welcome to email me or catch me on AIM. Neither have changed.

I don't really have anything to say here besides I'm still alive, I still think of you, and it makes me smile to know things are going well.

I don't really have anything new to report but life's still going well. Alex has undergone transitioning from a special needs school to the local elementary. Graduation was rough for him. He broke my heart on his last day. We put him in a month long summer school class to help him get used to his new school. He seems to be adjusting well so far but the real test will be seeing how he does in September.

It's hard work, especially when you have to balance wanting to do what's best for your child and making them happy. I've said before that I have a new respect for my parents. It's tough to make decisions for your offspring, especially when you have to think about what they really need, even if it's going to make them unhappy giving it to them. The decision to take Alex out of Beacon where all his teachers and friends were was a difficult one. I'm confident that putting him in the normal school is what he needs. He has a mommy and daddy who love him very much and want to support him through this time. It didn't make watching him get off the bus on his last day, stopping in his tracks, and bursting into tears any easier. But this is what parenting is: caring and protecting your offspring all the while preparing them for adulthood. I'm lucky I have support and encouragement through this. I can't imagine trying to do this with none at all.

Two musicial discoveries: Ke$ha and Eurovision. The former's songs are very catchy. "Take It Off" = <3 I'd missed the whole Eurovision craze but considering how many good songs have come from that, I'm planning on following it next year. I'll probably post a few recommendations on here at some point in the near future. I definitely have some favorites.

Still writing! I'm also reading more. I'm itching to go back to the library and check out some more books. Rediscovering my love for John Saul. I'm also doing some more research for my novel. There's only so many haunted hotels I can read about before my eyes glaze over. The book of Appalachian ghost stories I'm reading now is mostly haunted hotels. The last ghost story book I read had some really interesting and varied stories. My Nano kids are pawing to be written about them again. I've decided to just do a second draft of last year's novel for this year's novel because there are a lot of things that need work. I have more plot ideas, too. I also have some ideas for fantasy short stories.

I've fallen out of a lot of fandom. My fandoms these days are RPs I participate in. Persona is definitely my top fandom at the moment. People have been complimenting me on my OCs which is a real confidence boost. Writing and RPing my own characters, even in fandom universes, has been a lot more fulfilling than most of the canon's I've played. These days, I prefer to take X traits from character I really, really like and applying them differently. I really feel like I've come out of a cage, creatively speaking, which makes me happy. My craft is important to me.

On the RP front, I'm back to moderating again. I'm a sub-mod at thevelvetblues which basically means I do what I've been doing anyway: keeping threads going, getting folks integrated, etc. I'm also mod for this informal, muse dump Persona game. It's been ages since I've STed so I'm really rusty. Things seem to be going well so far, though. It feels good to moderate again. I'm thinking about running a Persona game on IJ after one of the ones I'm in concludes first. That one would involve apps and have a small cast. I find that I like smaller casts from a story standpoint unless it's a setting like maskedmirror where it's a general location rather than something really specific.

On the video game front, I'm playing Lunar 2: Eternal Blue. I've had it for years but only started playing it fairly recently. I'm also replaying Fire Emblem 8, Growlanser Generations, and Sword of Mana. Corv and I have a game of Final Fantasy 2 in progress.

Um.... I think that's it. Hahaha, my life is as exciting as ever. Oh, I've developed an interest in Tarot? I would really like my own deck. Maybe for my birthday. ~~How am I turning thirty in less than three weeks~~

Though I also love TatsuJun and KatsuMaya, I've been utterly sold on this pairing for years and years. Possibly because I played Eternal Punishment before I played Innocent Sin so these two were already quite firmly a tragic couple in my head. I have a weakness for older woman/younger guy pairs, too. Evil Zone for PS1

Fighting game for people who fail at fighting games. The dubbing is godawful but the music is very catchy and the characters are neat. This game is pure crack. Each character's storyline in story mode is set up as their own anime with each battle being an episode. It's pretty unique and it's just fun. XD

Gremio from Suikoden (PS1)

We have a few traits in common. XD; Mainly that we're both fussy mama bears, like to cook, and respond awkwardly to teasing. I don't think I'm nearly as awesome as Gremio is, however. The way he dedicated himself so totally to Tir and what he was willing to sacrifice to ensure his safety and well-being really moved me. GREMIO~ ;o;

Koudelka for PSone

This game gets pretty negative reviews which is a real shame because it's one of my favorite RPGs of all time. It has an engaging scary story, intriguing characters, fun gameplay, and an optional boss that I still can't beat until this day. The cut scenes are pretty well done for its time, too. It's a good creepy game. It also has one of my favorite pairings in it. This is the game that the Shadow Hearts series is a spin-off of. Two interesting things of note: it's made by former Squaresoft developers and it was originally dubbed in English - the Japanese version had subtitles.

Koudelka Iasant ranks pretty high on my list of smoking hot video game ladies. Also, she's one of my favorite female characters of all time.

Wow, I haven't had a three post day in a really long time

I pimped thevelvetblues a while back not long after I first joined it but I want to pimp it again because we're down three Persona users and could really use a male character for the 2012 cast. Of the three arcana that are currently available (Hermit, Lovers, and Chariot), I think that Chariot and Hermit are reserved which leaves Lovers. We could also use side characters (students, teachers, security guards, shop keepers, etc). Just normal folks in the midst of a bunch of supernatural weirdness.

As for the premise of the game, there's a much better explanation of it on the community, but basically, it's an OC game about the origin of the Velvet Room and takes place simultaneously in two different time periods: 1934 and 2012. It also takes place in the United States. There is also a wiki with information about a lot of the characters. (Mine are Lillian Taylor and Joe Harper, for anyone who's curious.)

It's a pretty mellow paced game and it's especially nice because it isn't real time so you don't have the pressure of having to make specific deadlines. I've really enjoyed playing in it so far and I've managed to stay interested in it so I wanted to recommend it on the off-chance there are some closet Persona fans lurking on my flist somewhere who wanted to try RPing it or OCs somewhere.

Game Pimp

I'm kind of on a happy high at the moment.

A while ago, I applied for a character at thevelvetblues completely on a whim. I'd been wanting to try something completely new. I'm pretty much out of the Prince of Tennis fandom aside from a few characters I still adore. I just don't really care anymore. My interests and likes have shifted. Right now, I'm simply more interested in playing OCs. I'd missed the thrill that came from building a character from the ground up and breathing life into them. I'd forgotten that I'm good at it. Creatively, I've felt more fulfilled doing this than anything else I've done (er, RP wise of late). It's been good because it keeps me writing somewhat consistently.

It's helping bolster my confidence in myself which is something I really need. It's been really lovely getting compliments from people on my characters in the game which are both OCs. That show of support really helps me feel better. I don't want people to lie to me but it's nice to hear nice things.

I'm loving this game. The plot is interesting and the cast is wonderful. I'm so excited to see where this story leads. I think the best part of it is that we're our own fandom. It's a little more intimate than what I'm used to but I like it. It's fun. But yeah, the game is lovely and I'm really happy I decided to sign up. It's been a neat experience.

I'm also getting into Vocaloid fandom. I've been on the fringes of it forever but now.... I'm starting to ship them and hunt down fanart and doujinshi. XD; Not to mention I'm expanding my Vocaloid music collection even more. I've discovered that Gumi is shooting up my favorites list; she hasn't overcome Luka or Len yet but.... she's up there. >.> And jftr, I will never tire of Gackpoid crack.

Writer's Block: A rose by any other name

I used to haaaaaaaate my name when I was younger because of nonstop "Alice in Wonderland" jokes. I started going by "Ali" to head off some of the Wonderland jokes off at the pass which worked well enough except for substitute teachers calling me "ah-lee" instead.

Now I go by Alice mostly which I like a lot more now. I think it suits me. It's not a particularly common name in my age group and it's kind of old-fashioned which I appreciate more. I've always been grateful that I didn't wind up with a batshit madeup name like my cousin Voncile did. I was named after my great grandmother who died when I was still really little and I'm told that she was a really awesome lady so... I'm a little more appreciative of that than I was when I was younger.

My mom initially wanted to name me Snow because there was a girl in her class named Snow and she always thought it was really pretty but my dad vetoed it. When that got shot down, she wanted to name me Rebecca. If I had been named that, I probably would've wound up going by Becca. XD;

When I was a little girl, I always wanted to be named Alexandria or Cassandra but as I said, I'm pretty cool with my name now. People frequently comment on how it's unusual to see someone as young as me with the name Alice which I find pretty neat now.
