Lido and Rocket Pool are the first official members of the new Balancer Alliance Program, a formal revenue-sharing framework designed to deepen collaboration with top DeFi protocols.

Both protocols qualify as their pools have generated over $1M in lifetime fees. As Alliance members, they’ll receive a portion of protocol fees in USDC, which must be relocked into veBAL, aligning long-term incentives.

Dynamic ECLPs are now live - Gyroscope’s latest pool design built for volatile pairs and “set-and-forget” LP strategies. They integrate a dynamic rate provider that conditionally updates when the pool moves out of range, allowing it to track price without triggering new arbitrage losses. Balancer Alliance Program Now Live

The Balancer Alliance framework approved in April officially went into effect. For the first time, external protocols can now earn a share of swap fees from their pools—provided they convert those earnings to 80/20 BAL/WETH and permalock as veBAL.

That structure doesn't just align incentives. It creates sustained buy pressure on BAL, which in high-volume periods could exceed the rate of BAL emissions. Alliance partners are now rewarded in governance power and emissions influence for deepening liquidity.

New Balancer V3 Pools on Avalanche

Following last month’s Avalanche deployment, several capital-efficient pools went live:

• savUSD / USDT

• AUSD / USDT / USDC

• sAVAX / ggAVAX / WAVAX

• AUSD / USDC / savUSD

These pools reflect Balancer V3’s flexibility, enabling efficient stablecoin routing and yield-bearing AVAX exposure—all on a fast, RWA-friendly chain.

QuantAMM Pools Debut

QuantAMM launched its blockchain-traded fund architecture on Balancer V3, offering permissionless access to actively managed strategies. Each QuantAMM pool is designed around a rules-based investment thesis—like momentum or macro trend-following—and adjusts composition automatically based on live market data.

This unlocks a new use case for programmable liquidity: onchain asset management.

MEV Hook in Action

A new walkthrough showcased how the MEV-Cap Hook works in practice. By detecting high-priority transactions (often MEV-related), the hook increases swap fees in real time to capture a portion of that alpha for LPs.

Unlike offchain bots or passive defenses, this mechanism is fully composable and lives inside the pool itself. As Balancer infrastructure evolves, yield extraction becomes yield capture.

Aura Governance Activity Picks Up

• AIP-74: Sunsetting Fraxtal Pools proposes sunsetting Aura’s Fraxtal deployment due to low usage and operational overhead. If passed, all Aura pools on Fraxtal will be phased out, with incentives removed and users encouraged to migrate.

• Supplemental Ecosystem Fund Proposal seeks to top up the Aura Ecosystem Fund, ensuring continued grants and partnerships through 2025.

From fee-aligned liquidity loops to programmable funds and MEV-native infrastructure, May showed the real power of modular DeFi. June’s already lining up to keep the momentum going.

Here’s a look back at what moved:

Balancer Alliance Program Approved

The Balancer community approved the Alliance Program, a new framework that allows protocols to receive a share of the fees generated by their pools. That share must then be converted into veBAL, giving protocols long-term governance power and the ability to direct emissions toward their own liquidity.

This creates a powerful incentive loop: protocols that deepen their liquidity on Balancer are rewarded with more influence over future emissions — and in turn can use that influence to sustain and grow their pools. Rocket Pool was the first to apply to the program, showcasing how protocols can begin aligning liquidity provisioning with long-term control and sustainability.

Balancer V3 Launches on Avalanche

Balancer V3 officially deployed on Avalanche, bringing its full suite of programmable liquidity tools to one of the fastest-growing chains in the RWA and DeFi space. This includes Boosted Pools (which deploy idle liquidity into yield strategies), Hooks (custom logic at key pool interaction points), and support for completely custom AMM types.

The move opens up new design space for Avalanche developers, who can now build and deploy advanced capital-efficient strategies directly on Balancer infrastructure. Institutional players already active on Avalanche — such as those working with tokenized treasuries or RWA platforms — can now tap into more flexible liquidity systems.

MEV-Cap Hook Goes Live

One of the most innovative releases this month was the launch of the MEV-Cap Hook on Balancer V3. On OP Stack chains like Base and Optimism, transactions are ordered by priority fee — the amount users pay to be processed faster. The MEV-Cap Hook uses that signal to dynamically adjust swap fees in real time.

When a transaction pays a high priority fee — often a sign of MEV activity — the hook increases the pool's swap fee accordingly, capturing part of that value and returning it to liquidity providers. This mechanism helps internalize MEV, transforming it from a drain into a direct yield source for LPs. It’s entirely onchain and composable, with no external fee routing or governance steps required.

Dynamic Fees with EZKL

Balancer also integrated EZKL, a zero-knowledge machine learning toolchain, to bring dynamic, adaptive swap fees to pools using verifiable offchain computation. Instead of relying on static fee settings, protocols can now use statistical models — such as volatility predictions — to calculate optimal swap fees and feed the result back onchain.

These models run offchain, but the results are submitted to Balancer along with a cryptographic proof that the computation was done correctly. This allows pools to adjust fees in real time based on market conditions, without sacrificing decentralization or requiring manual governance updates.

It’s a major step forward in creating responsive, efficient liquidity systems that still respect DeFi’s core trust assumptions.

AURA Accumulation for Strategic Emissions

Parallel Protocol’s Insurance Fund committed $480,000 toward purchasing AURA and locking it as vlAURA. By acquiring vlAURA, Parallel can direct incentives toward pools involving its key assets — such as PAR, paUSD, and PRL — supporting deeper liquidity and ensuring protocol-aligned rewards.

Here’s a look at what unfolded over the past month.

Aura is setting the standard for being lean and sustainable. A new forum proposal outlines plans to fund estimated 2025 operational costs of just $184,000 — without selling tokens or drawing down the treasury.

Instead, the plan leverages vote incentive revenue from 1.5 million AURA that was bought back and locked as vlAURA via AIP-72. This creates a flywheel where protocol-owned vlAURA generates income that can be used to fund day-to-day operations.

Paladin Quests are now live on Defilytica, offering detailed insights into voting incentive flows. Users can now see which Quests are active, where incentives are going, and how vlAURA is earning in real time.

Aura’s close partner Gyroscope launched its TGE last month, with an airdrop of $GYFI to Aura LPs who had been earning SPIN points.

LPs currently earning SPIN points are still eligible for future $GYFI conversion — so there’s still time to participate in the program and stack rewards.

The auraBAL compounder continues to buy back auraBAL using protocol fees. In January, a record high of $585,144 was bought back, contributing to a 36-43% vAPY for staked auraBAL.

Meanwhile, Balancer v3 has already surpassed $100M in total swap volume, achieving this milestone in less than two months since its launch, among other interesting stats.

Boosted pools expand vlAURA's utility, providing an easy way for protocols to gain deep liquidity in both lending and trading markets. Coinshift's USDC | USDL pool enables LPs to earn yield from trading, lending, T-Bills, BAL & AURA emissions, plus MORPHO and SHIFT rewards, all in a familiar LP position.

Votes have passed to deploy v3 on Base and Arbitrum. The deployment to Base will include a Priority Fee Router, designed to charge a priority fee for MEV taxes and distribute it to LPs. Learn more.

With v3 pools now live on Aura, new chains coming soon, and countless innovations unfolding, the future is looking bright.

The proposal to reallocate $1M from the treasury to purchase and lock $AURA has passed. This strategic move will not only reduce circulating supply with minimal dilution on existing vlAURA holders but also enable the treasury to secure a source of funding for operations. The plan involves setting CoWSwap limit orders between $0.45-$0.50 over four weeks, targeting the acquisition of approximately 2M $AURA.

On December 11th, Balancer v3 officially launched, quickly drawing in $28M in liquidity and setting the stage for a new era of AMM innovation. There were two exciting X Spaces —one celebrating the launch and another with Stani from Aave. For those who haven’t kept up on the details, now’s a great time to learn more about v3.

Boosted Pools in v3 are a standout feature, enabling LPs to tap into yields from lending markets as well as traditional liquidity pools. This not only enhances returns but also significantly broadens vlAURA's utility. Now, protocols can leverage vlAURA to incentivize activities across both lending and liquidity spheres. The last voting epoch was one of the best of the year for vlAURA voters. Hidden Hand alone accounted for $432k of incentives - a 93% APR, while Paladin Quests contributed an additional $137k.

Balancer is more than just a DEX; it’s the only platform for truly permissionless AMM experimentation.

The success of Balancer and Aura depends largely on the success of protocols building on top of Balancer. The redesigned v3 vault makes it much simpler to do so, resulting in a 10x improvement in pool developer experience.

Even before v3, top-tier teams have already started building on Balancer. CoW AMM, by @CoWSwap, is the first AMM that protects LPs from LVR. @GyroStable pools bring the benefits of E-CLPs and often drive an outsized share of trading volume.

With 68% of all veBAL locked in Aura, there is no larger stakeholder in Balancer’s success. It’s also where most users should go to get exposure to the Balancer ecosystem.

An improved developer experience makes it much simpler for protocols to rapidly experiment and bring new AMMs to market, while hooks provide further customizability. Boosted Pools make LPing more profitable as lending markets unlock an additional source of yield.

Sitting on top, Aura makes participating in the Balancer ecosystem more accessible as we usher in a new era of AMM innovation.

A newer (and unaudited, DYOR) protocol has sprung up on Aura. Users can deposit $AURA and receive $kaiAURA, representing vlAURA in Kai. $kaiAURA can then be staked, and because not all $kaiAURA is staked, users earn a boosted yield. Keep in mind that converting $AURA to $kaiAURA is irreversible, and secondary market liquidity is limited.

Although we'd typically save governance updates for a bit later, this one is worth highlighting even though it's still under discussion. Balancer earns significant revenue from a specialized fee capture system on pools with yield-bearing assets. This proposal aims to reduce these fees, along with several other optimizations, from 50% to 10%, making it much easier to onboard protocols and liquidity providers.

But what about the revenue and yield flowing to $auraBAL? One exciting feature of v3 is the launch of Boosted Pools, where 100% of assets get deposited into yield-generating markets like Aave and Morpho. This makes LPing more profitable as you now have two sources of yield. Backtesting in the proposal showed that:

- LPs experience a 407% increase in income from boosted yield and reduced yield fees
- Protocol yield fee revenue maintains 56% of current levels even with the reduced fee capture, assuming no change in TVL

Aura's franchise, Hyperlock, raised $213k in their Fjord Foundry LBP. Not a bad raise by any means; especially when considering Trump's World Liberty Fi is struggling to pass $15m. Hyperlock's TGE also included an airdrop of 2% of the supply to vlAURA holders, with a further 9% streamed in the future.

Balancer V3 is fast approaching. The ongoing Cantina bug competition, which is considered a final step before launch, is set to end on Nov. 5th.

V3 includes many innovations, such as 100% boosted pools, hooks, and an improved developer experience. The last may not sound as exciting, but Balancer has increasingly become a base layer on which other AMMs innovate on top of. Gyroscope's E-CLPs and GYD stablecoin have been a common sight on Aura.

Of course, none of this is financial advice, and there are risks, so be sure to do your own research.

The first thing you’ll need to do is acquire the AURA token, which can be done via Balancer, CowSwap, or a number of other places.

AURA itself doesn’t earn any yield; only vlAURA (short for vote-locked AURA) does. To get vlAURA, you’d need to lock your AURA for 16 weeks.

Once your AURA is locked, you won’t be able to transfer it until your lock expires.

vlAURA holders have the right to vote on governance proposals and gauge votes; the latter decide which pools receive BAL emissions and, therefore, deeper liquidity, something protocols are willing to pay for via vote markets.

Once you have vlAURA, you must delegate the voting power to a specific address. Most commonly, this would be yourself, Hidden Hand, or Aura.

Self-Delegation: You’ll need to vote on a gauge each epoch manually. This allows you to vote for your chosen pool, perhaps because you want to receive a certain token as an incentive. One downside is that you’ll miss out on your rewards if you forget to vote.

Delegate to Hidden Hand: Hidden Hand is the primary vote market where protocols pay vlAURA holders for their votes. You can delegate to Hidden Hand here. Doing so means they’ll vote on your behalf to maximize rewards and you won’t have to remember to vote each epoch. However, the votes will get spread across multiple pools. This can lead to rewards being earned in a variety of different tokens, which may not be ideal for smaller holders on Ethereum Mainnet.

Delegate to Aura: You can also choose to delegate to Aura. Doing so will allow the Aura multisig to vote on pools most beneficial to the protocol, but this may not include earning vote incentives.

💡Pro Tip:

Some users find it valuable to delegate to Hidden Hand and then vote manually each epoch. The manual vote will override the Hidden Hand delegation. This makes it possible to have Hidden Hand as a backup option in case you forget but still have the flexibility to vote yourself.

Hidden Hand is by far the largest marketplace for voting incentives and where most users will vote.

vlAURA voting takes place every two weeks. It begins at 2 a.m. UTC on Thursdays and closes at 2 a.m. UTC on Mondays.

Incentives can be added at any time during the voting period, though protocols often add them closer to the end of the round.

vlAURA holders can choose a pool to vote for by clicking the Vote button. It may be worth checking which token(s) the reward is paid out in, along with other stats.

As long as you vote for a pool receiving rewards, each will tend to pay out roughly the same amount, even if one appears to be paying higher at the time of your vote. This is because Hidden Hand votes near the end of the period with the tokens delegated to them, smoothing out rewards to all pools.

Rewards can be claimed on Ethereum Mainnet via Hidden Hand’s Rewards page.

The exact time varies slightly from week to week, but typically, they’ll be distributed within 24 hours of the voting period ending.

Although we saw vlAURA APR dip a bit in the most recent voting epoch, bribe efficiency was extremely high. For every $1 spent on incentives, a pool received $1.50 in emissions. This opens up more opportunities for new protocols to incentivize their pools.
