Commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission and developed with the support of The American Academy in Rome and MoMA
Simultaneous is a work exploring many facets of the concept of simultaneity. It incorporates stories and tightly edited speech fragments taken from recorded interviews, woven together with melodies, textures, and pitched and rhythmic motifs largely generated by the speech material. Development of the work began during a Rome Prize Fellowship (2019-20), and the live version had its premiere at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in August of 2023, after being workshopped in San Francisco at Project Artaud Space 124 in December of 2022.
