The friction between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham that went public with 1977's Rumours has yet to cool.

"We are a cast of characters who never really belonged in the same band in the first place," says Buckingham, 63. "But the synergy works, and I'm looking forward to seeing where the mines lie in the field this time. It wouldn't be a band without that tension. All the same things kick in. I know what I'm supposed to do. I know whose face to get in to make things happen. All those roles are so familiar. I'm ready to pick up the dice and roll again."

Nicks and Buckingham are considering a 40th anniversary reissue of their storied Buckingham Nicks album next year, with a newly unearthed, previously unreleased track from the sessions.

Buckingham's one-man-show solo tour was a confidence booster that improved his singing, he says. He's aware Nicks is returning with greater spunk after her solo winning streak, which could set the stage for a clash. Her recent solo outing "renewed Stevie's spirit," he says. "I'm happy she had a couple of great years. If it means a more complex political landscape, so be it." Buckingham's solo foray "has been good for him," says Nicks, 64. "Playing (one-man shows) can't help but give you a certain compassionate softness. It's very different from Fleetwood Mac."

Nicks is eager to return to Mac and determined to establish harmony. "I'm going to be very clear about what I want," she says. "What I want is for this band to get along and have a great time. So I'm demanding that. We are going to have a great collaborative working relationship. We're always great on stage. I don't say that from a conceited place. We've been playing since 1975. We know what we're doing up there."

Buckingham can't argue with that.

"The important thing is for us not to let the politics or landmines get in the way of us having a good time, especially for Stevie and me," he says. "There's been a subtext of competition and animosity, which is the flip side of love, for a long time. I think it's driven both of us. Now is an appropriate time for us to acknowledge the context of our relationship and see what's left for us to do. If this is the beginning of the last act, let's wind up in a place that dignifies what we started."

Hungry for a big Mac splurge? After a three-year absence, Fleetwood Mac embarks on a 34-city North American tour starting April 4 in Columbus, Ohio. Tickets for the first run of shows go on sale Dec. 14.

The band, founded in 1967, is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its trailblazing Rumours, which sold 40 million copies worldwide, held Billboard's No. 1 spot for 31 weeks and spawned top 10 hits Dreams, Don't Stop, Go Your Own Way and You Make Loving Fun.

Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, who joined in 1975, and namesakes Mick Fleetwood and John McVie last toured in 2009 and haven't released a studio album since 2003's Say You Will.

Yet new tunes may be shoehorned into a set list packed with classics.

"There were some tracks John, Mick and I cut with Stevie in mind while she was on the road," Buckingham says. "It's the most Fleetwood Mac-sounding stuff I've heard in a long time. We've been talking about releasing an EP, but I don't know how these moving parts will fit together yet."

In light of the band's deep catalog, the singer/guitarist isn't concerned about a second consecutive tour without a studio album.

"We'd be OK for one more round," he says. "People do want to hear that body of work and be transported to a certain time. The older you get and the longer the band has been around, you come to terms with the fact that no one's particularly interested in hearing anything too new. It's about what you do with what you've got."

Nicks envisions performing hits, rarities and maybe a couple of migrants, particularly the war-themed Soldier's Angel, a duet with Buckingham from her 2011 solo album, In Your Dreams.

"It's become a standard in my set, and I get a standing ovation every night," Nicks says. "Fans might like seeing Lindsey and I sing it. And it gives me a chance to ask people to help veterans who are so young and so messed up. I turn into an eighth-grade teacher."

Opting to extend her solo tour, Nicks was a holdout when the band wanted to hit the road early this year.

"I had to put my foot down and say, 'I'm not touring with you in 2012,' and it wasn't a very popular idea," she says. "I always think it's good for Fleetwood Mac to be away for three years. Two years is like, well, 'I just saw you.' My feeling was, let 2013 be the year of Fleetwood Mac and make it an exciting event."

Stevie Nicks: The Soundtrack of My Life

From Florence Welch to Courtney Love, Sheryl Crow to Taylor Swift, there are plenty of artists who owe a debt to Stevie Nicks (63). She began as half of Buckingham Nicks, in partnership with then boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham. They remained artistically though not romantically entwined, joining Fleetwood Mac and helping the group become synonymous with 70s rock. Last month Nicks released her first solo album in a decade, In Your Dreams. The track "Soldier's Angel" offers a clue to how she's spent her time in the interim. It was inspired by regular hospital visits to wounded American veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq, something she's done since 2004, along with raising funds for their rehabilitation. "There's no politics involved," she says. "I'm just visiting kids. I take them presents of iPods loaded up with songs, which breaks the ice. Most of them don't even know who I am, although they do by the time they leave and I've sat and held their hand. I'll keep doing it as long as there is a need."

STARTING OUT IN ROCK'N'ROLL

'Rock & Roll Woman', Buffalo Springfield (1967)

Hearing this for the first time was like seeing the future. [Sings] "And she's coming, singing soft and low…" When I heard the lyrics, I thought: that's me! They probably wrote it about Janis Joplin or someone like that but I was convinced it was about me. I saw Buffalo Springfield at the Winterland Ballroom at the time, and it could not have been better. They were a very Californian band and it was the height of the Haight-Ashbury scene. My parents had moved to San Francisco in my final year of high school, so I was new and didn't know anyone. But music was everywhere, everyone was listening to the radio all the time – I was living in the middle of a music revolution.

By 1968 I was in a band with Lindsey. His family lived in the same gated community as us, and we would practise at his house. My mom and dad liked him, and everybody in the band. We practiced Monday to Thursday, then played gigs on Friday and Saturday. So we were serious about it from the beginning, and my parents understood that.

THE ALBUM THAT TAUGHT ME TO SING HARMONY

Crosby, Stills & Nash, Crosby, Stills & Nash (1969)

I spent a whole summer singing along to this record. I loved the harmonies, and learned to sing all three of the parts. I knew that I wanted to be in a band with the same kind of harmonies. I'd had a record deal early on. When I was a senior in high school a friend of a friend of my dad was a big deal at 20th Century Fox. So I flew to LA, took my guitar, sang and signed a five-year contract with a producer named Jackie Mills. He quit soon after, and luckily there was a "main man" clause in my contract that meant I was now released from it. I wasn't upset. Even at that age I was smart enough to realise that I didn't want to be stuck on a label with people that I didn't know.

THE SONG I PLAY BEFORE A SHOW

'Blonde in the Bleachers', Joni Mitchell (1972)

This is about a girl who [sings] "tapes her regrets to the microphone stand, she says 'you can't hold the hand of a rock'n'roll man for very long'". I never saw myself as the girl in the song – I identified with the rock'n'roll star. I was never gonna be the groupie. I was the star, I was sure of that. I listen to that song to this day. It's on the playlist I have for when I'm preparing to go on stage. I felt sorry for the girl in the song, and for all the girls who got their hearts broken going out with rock'n'roll stars. I don't think much has changed. Guys become famous, go on the road, all the beautiful girls come to their show, and it's a free for all. My advice to the young women I know is don't go out with a rock star. It's never gonna work.

y in love with me. I was not worried one bit about Lindsey Buckingham straying from me. We came to LA together, hand-in-hand, to conquer the world.

THE ALBUM THAT REMINDS ME OF BEING DOWN AND OUT IN LOS ANGELOS

Court and Spark, Joni Mitchell (1974)

This was one of those albums that I lay on the floor and listened to for three days straight. Lindsey and I were coming to the end of our relationship, and I'd met someone else. So I latched on to the title track, which is about a new relationship that doesn't last. This was a year after Buckingham Nicks came out, which had gotten critical acclaim but Polydor dropped us like a rock. So we were back to square one. It was the only time I ever felt music might not work out. I talked to my parents about going back to school, because I was tired of being a cleaning lady, a waitress and a rock'n'roll star at the same time. We were really poor. At the same time, we were already living in the world that Joni Mitchell was writing about because our producer, Keith Olsen, had introduced us to a lot of people in the industry. So I related to a song like "The Same Situation" whenever I'd go to a party and music business sharks were everywhere. They would look at me as the blonde who could sing and might make lots of money for someone. I didn't like being looked at as a commodity. But by the end of that year Mick Fleetwood had asked us to join Fleetwood Mac, sight unseen. Keith Olsen had played him Buckingham Nicks, and told him Lindsey and I came as a pair.

THE ALBUM THAT REMINDS ME OF FRIENDS

Battle Studies, John Mayer (2009)

I played this constantly when I went to Hawaii a while ago. I was on a quick break while I was making the new album because Dave Stewart, who produced the record, was stuck in London at the time because of the volcano in Iceland. So me and four of my friends went on holiday, drove over the mountains and listened to this record all the time. I don't listen to other music when I'm actually writing as I don't like to be influenced by other things. You don't want to end up rewriting something that's already been written. And I don't go back to any of my own records either. I don't want to rewrite "Edge of Seventeen".

So, about those S2 Glee spoilers.

I have a very long, probably somewhat incoherent entry regarding some of the S2 Glee spoilers that were given away last night. If you want to be spoiler free, you probably shouldn't read my post (even though, I will say, it's mostly analyzing things in the past).

Also, it's not very FR/PQ friendly. So if you are an insane shipper, it's probably best not to click.

Otherwise, enjoy my ramblings!

According to Ryan Murphy, Finn/Rachel will be together ALL of season 2. And Puck/Quinn will also be explored.

My immediate reaction is "Noooooooo" a la Darth Vader. Simply because, I find Finn/Rachel boring and very one sided. I like Finn enough, but he's been so horrible to Rachel in the past.. and he's a complete IDIOT (which really grates on my nerves and is not cute at all to me).. so I really have no desire to watch them together, at all.

Then, my rationality starts to creep back and I start processing. This is good. If they are together for ALL of season 2, first of all, it's not going to be perfect. Being together for so long, I think, will hopefully kind of allow them to really know each other and bring to light that the fantasy is not all what it seemed. Because I honestly do think that Finn/Rachel is just a fantasy (it always struck me as odd that Rachel said that about PR, when the last time I checked Puck was never someone she dreamed of being with [let's be honest]). Every time they have tried to be together it hasn't been what they wanted because Finn only accepts Rachel when he's only around Rachel. And Rachel gives all she has and gets nothing back, that is, unless Finn can too get some sort of personal gain from it. To quote an awesome movie, "It's like a painting, see? From far away it's okay, but up close it's a big old mess." It's good in theory but in reality, not so much.

Which brings me to the other fact that if they are together all of season 2, there is NO WAY that they will be together all of season 3. No one wants to watch a static show. There has to be change, there has to be drama (and comedy along with it), there has to be excitement. Watching Finn/Rachel for two hole seasons straight is frankly not exciting, no matter who you are or who you ship. Eventually they will get boring, and then the longer they are together the stupider their storylines will get as they try to keep them together but still give them drama (see Naley of OTH). Basically, this is a long winded way of saying that if S2 = completely FR, then S3 =/= completely FR. Again, this is a good thing.

On top of all this, there's still the fact that I want a proper build up, anyway. I don't want to turn on the TV one day and see PR getting it on out of the clear blue (actually.. wait, no. no I don't). They need to build a friendship, which I believe they in some ways have already started to do. We already know that they understand each other, now we just need to see this used to our advantage. What better of a way to build a friendship than in a situation in which they actually can't be more than friends? Finn and Rachel might be dating, but Rachel will still have to have interact with other characters.

Let's not forget about Puck/Quinn. I can somewhat tolerate them, and aesthetically they are a very pleasing couple, but the only connection they have is Beth. I think they, too, will realize this in the long run. Just like in 34891084 fanfics, there will come a day with Puck realizes that he's not IN love with Quinn, he just LOVES Quinn because of what they share. Like Finn/Rachel, this relationship is built on a fantasy. Puck and Quinn were never going to be a happy family, but Puck so desperately wanted that because of his paternal issues that he let the idea of it consume him. Quinn, let's be honest, just wants to be loved. I think even more so now that the baby is gone, this illusion will come crashing down.

And my last smidgen of hope.

Let's not forget WHO adopted Beth. Not only does Rachel still need to find out about this (did she in the finale? if she did, I've erased it from my memory) but I suspect (er kind of hope actually) that Puck will be having second thoughts about letting the baby go, and will want to see Beth, or at least hear about Beth. The only way to do this is, logically, through Rachel.

To sum it up:
- Ugh, FR.
- Yay, time for things to go wrong.
- Yay, season 3 for other opportunities.
- PQ/FR are fantasy couples.
- Shelby connection.

Tutorial: Nathan and Haley

A tutorial for this coloring has been requested a few times, so here it is. I've been using this coloring for quite a while now, so I can't remember exactly why I originally did some of the things I did, but I'll try to explain it the best I can.

Requires knowledge of photoshop tools (selective color, curves, etc.)

Alright, here we go.

1) The first thing we need to do is get our base ready. I started out with a screencap of Nathan and Haley from One Tree Hill. If you're image is dark like mine, you will need to duplicate your base and set it to screen. The opacity of the screen layer depends on your image. If it is really dark, you may have to duplicate the screen layer. Mine wasn't too dark, so I only used one screen layer set to 70%. Like I said, this varies depending on the base. You may not need this step at all if your base is bright enough.

2) You don't have to sharpen your base right now. If it suits you, you can wait until the end to sharpen it. Sometimes that works better because you can adjust the sharpness according to how much it is needed after the coloring; however, I decided to go ahead and sharpen mine. I merged by screened base and my original base (Layer>Flatten Image), then went to Filter>Sharpen>Sharpen. It was a little too sharp for my taste, so I went to Edit>Fade Sharpen and lowered the opacity to about 70%.

3) Now that our base is prepared, we can start to work on the coloring. My base was still a bit dull and flat, so I opened up a new curves layer to make some adjustments (Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Curves). I really just messed around with it until I got something I liked. I knew I wanted more contrast, so in the RGB layer I adjusted it accordingly. My final settings were as follows
RGB:
Point 1 - Input 9, Output 1
Point 2 - Input 24, Output 18
Point 3 - Input 101, Output 121
RED:
Point 1 - Input 34, Output 36
GREEN:
Point 1 - Input 144, Output 146
BLUE:
Point 1 - Input 14, Output 3
Point 2 - Input 28, Output 19

4) As you can see, it is already looking much more vibrant. However, I felt it was a little bit too orange-y for my liking. To fix that, I made a new fill layer (Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color) and filled it with a dark blue (#000A13). I set this layer to Exclusion at 100% opacity. This softened the image and made the darker parts a bit bluer, and the lighter parts pinker.

5) That lightened it a bit too much for me, I suppose, and I guess I thought it was too blue/pink for my taste. I did this next step to reverse a little of what was done in step 4. Looking back, I have no idea why I didn't just lower the opacity of the exclusion layer.. but I didn't. Instead, I made another new fill layer (Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color) and filled it with #6D675D. I set it to Soft Light @ 50% opacity.

6) It looks alright, but I felt like there needed to be more contrast still. And I still didn't like how orange-y it was turning out. To fix it, I opened up a new color balance layer (Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Color Balance). I knew I wanted more variation in the color, so I played with the sliders in the Shadows, Midtones, and Highlights accordingly. I upped the blues and cyans in the highlights, the reds and yellows in the midtones, and the blues and cyans in the shadows. My specific settings are below. Make sure 'Preserve Luminosity' is checked.
Midtones: +4, 0, -21
Shadows: -9, 0 +10
Highlights: -7, 0 +9

7) I still thought there wasn't enough contrast or color. I didn't want the light parts of the image to be any brighter, just for the dark parts to be darker, if that makes sense. I made another new fill layer (Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color) with #E8E3DE, a very light tan/yellow. I set this layer to color burn at 60% opacity.

8) But then I decided that I wanted to tone down the light parts just a tad. I did this by making a new fill layer (Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color) with #3C2E5D. I set this layer to Luminosity, and lowered the opacity way down to 7%.

9) This doesn't look awful, but now it's very dark and there's still not a whole lot of variation in the coloring. I felt the lights/whites didn't stand out enough, and I wanted to tweak the coloring some more. I opened up a new selective color layer (Layer<New Adjustment Layer>Selective Color). I left it at 100% opacity.These are my settings:
Reds: +30, +7, +12, 0
Yellows: -16, 0, +12, +21
Magentas: -41, +67, -24
Whites: -26, -36, -38, -55
Neutrals: 0, 0, 0, -13

10) I still wanted more contrast, I guess. There are a couple of ways to up the contrast of an image, the most obvious being the Brightness/Contrast tool. But I chose to open up a new black and white gradient map (Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Gradient Map) and set it to soft light @ 50%.

11) I can't remember exactly why I did this, to be honest. I'm going to assume that I just wanted to brighten the icon up a bit. Anyway, I made a new fill layer (Layer>New Adjustment Layer>New Fill Layer) and filled it with #A0A0A0, a shade of gray. I set it to screen at 7%.

12) I always like to have some kind of a light source in most of my icons, so I placed this texture (it's been so long since I made this, that I can't remember if it's a texture I downloaded or if it's something I made, so if you recognize it let me know) on top and set it to screen @ 70%.

13) Right. Well, the problem is that a lot of the color has been drained out of the icon in the last few steps. I opened a new hue/saturation layer (Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Hue/Saturation) and upped the saturation a bit. I set it to 95%.

14) It looks a bit more saturated, but it wasn't enough for me. I ended up duplicating the layer made in step 13 twice, but depending on your base you may need to do it more/less (or you may be able to skip this step entirely).

15) It looks better, but it's really orange/yellow still. In order to fix this, I made a new selective color layer (Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Selective Color) set to 100%. I knew I wanted the reds to be less yellow, but at the same time, I didn't want to lose the yellows entirely. In the end, I balanced it out with these settings.
Reds: 0, 0, -20, +8
Yellows: 0, 0, +36, 0
Whites: 0, 0, 0, -15

16) For a final touch, I added a bit more light to Nathan's face by creating a new gradient fill layer (Layer>New Fill Layer>Gradient). I chose a white -> transparent gradient with the following settings - Style: Radial, Angle: -25, Scale: 100%. I left the layer on Normal, but changed the opacity to 6%.

Remember that not all colorings work on certain bases, and you may have to tweak things here and there depending on the image you chose to work with. So.. One Tree Hill last Monday was great. I thoroughly enjoyed it. LH, LN, NH, BH, BN, BL, JB.. yeah, I loved it. It was a really good episode. Oh, and I saw HSM3 last weekend and seriously = <3. Beyond awesome. Ooh, plus, James/Sophia? I know a lot of people are iffy on it, but I say why not? So in honor of the confirmation, there's some JS icons in here, despite the lack of many recent pictures of the two. Oh, and LOL at the circumstances under which the cat came out of the bag. Happy late Halloween, too.

Alright, here we go. I'm warning you in advance that I have a tendency to be a bit confusing at times, so if something is unclear or you have a question, please feel free to ask. I would like to say beforehand that this is the kind of tutorial you can't really follow exactly, because it won't work for every image. You will have to play around with it and experiment with some of the steps and try different textures and such. Oh, and I ramble a lot. Sorry in advance! Right, well, on we go.

First, choose a base. I chose a screencap of Brooke and Lucas from One Tree Hill. Resize it, move it around, sharpen it, do whatever you need to do to prepare it. For mine, I just messed with the sizing and placed it on the bottom of a 100x100 canvas.

I had some empty space toward the top, so I used the eyedropper tool to select a brownish-tan from the background and create a new fill layer using that color. Then I moved it to the bottom. You may or may not have to do something like this, depending on your image and what you want to do with it. It turned out that it really wasn't useful at all in the end, for mine in particular.

Now, it's time for some coloring. I used this tutorial (#8) by paradise_birdie and came up with this.

Alright, the first thing I notice that I disliked was the blue that the background had turned to, and really just the overall background. I felt like it needed to flow better, and I had a few options with my particular base. But I knew really liked the lighting that had been naturally created just from the original cap and the coloring, coming from the light on Lucas' house. There were a few ways that I could have used that to my advantage in the background. Here's what I did.

First, I noticed that it transitioned through three different colors. It started out in an off-white between their heads, went through a greenish color as it banched out and eventually to the tan you see in the bottom corners. So I made a new layer, grabbed the gradient tool. Mine was set to the default black>white and radial. I kept the radial, but changed the black-white to purple-green-orange (you could use any that were 3 colors though). I changed the purple to the offwhite, the green to the greenish-tan in the middle, and the orange to the tan. That's probably really confusing, so if it needs clarifying please ask lol. Anyway, then I hit okay. I made a new layer, then clicked on the spot right above Brooke's head, and pulled it out until it was not quite at the bottom right corner. It covered the entire canvas with a gradient. Using a layer mask, I brushed over Lucas and Brooke so they would be visible and this is how it turned out.

I still wasn't satisfied with the coloring. It just felt a bit monotone and I'm kind of nitpicky, so I tweaked it. I got a new selective color layer, with these settings. I'm not sure if it makes much of a difference, but at the bottom I had the method set to relative.

Yellows: 88 / -10 / 47 / -89
Greens: 79 / 0 / 0 / 0
Cyans: 100 / 0 / 0 / 0
Blues: 100 / 18 / -8 / 0

And.. I still wasn't happy. Another new selective color layer.

Neutrals: 20 / 8 / 8 / -9
Blacks: 9 / 0 / -12 / 0

Like I said, I'm really nitpicky.. so now a color balance layer. Preserve Luminosity is checked.

Midtones: -19 / -8 / 10
Highlights: 16 / 0 / -12
Shadows: -17 / 0 / 0

It didn't change much, but I think it helped.. anyway. It's looking good so far, however I felt like there needed to be something more. I added this texture by vol4itca and set it to screen at 50%

Okay. For the B&W version, SKIP THIS and go down to where it boldly says Black & White version. If not, just disregard this and keep reading.

I took this texture by tihana and flipped it horizontally, desaturated it using a black > white gradient map, and set it to screen at 50% opacity as well.

Now I snagged this texture by UNKOWN [if it's yours, or you know who it's by, please tell me so they can receive proper credit], lowered the opacity and erased some parts that I felt didn't work right.. and set it to multiply.

I used this paper texture by UNKOWN [again, if it's yours or you know who the maker is - please inform me], lowered the opacity a lot and set it to multiply.

And that's it!

BLACK & WHITE VERSION

I added the text 'BeLieve' in Frutiger Linotype, 9 pt in a light grey..

Well, obviously I needed to find a way to make the image black and white. I tried a gradient match, but I thought it gave it a bit too much contrast, so I pulled out this texture by UNKOWN [if it's yours or you know who the maker is, please tell me] and set it to Saturation at 100% opacity.

I took this texture by tihana and flipped it horizontally, desaturated it using a black > white gradient map, and set it to screen at 50% opacity.

Then I used a texture by 77words to get the white bar on the side. I erased pretty much everything from the red blob to the right side of the texture, but left the left in. Set it to Lighten at 100%.

Now I snagged this texture by UNKOWN [if it's yours, or you know who it's by, please tell me so they can receive proper credit], lowered the opacity and erased some parts that I felt didn't work right.. and set it to multiply.

I used this paper texture by UNKOWN [again, if it's yours or you know who the maker is - please inform me], lowered the opacity a lot and set it to multiply.

And that's it for the B&W variation as well.

I hope you found this somewhat useful. Remember play around with different textures. colorings, and settings because every image is so different.
