I couldn't make it any shorter without missing ones I listened less but still memorable ones

1. Bloc Party ''Four''

This is always so hard to choose the best album from many artists you love and albums with amazing songs you listened a lot. I choose these guys on basis of a) they are one of my most favourite bands; b) it has so different moo songs, but lyrical ones are the most beautiful as always; c) I saw the live this year (yay!)

From the very first listening I was confused how disjoined this whole thing looks together - after slow song goes very fast and massive like they never did before in previous albums. But one day in the road I played it and fell in love with this record. Some say it sounds raw and created from pieces of every band member gave in it. It is different from what they did before, but not that much! They still have energy in fast songs and amazing sense of delivering tenderness by slow melodies and Kele's soft voice.

2. Lana Del Rey "Born To Die"

This year for the lady was very successful I must admit. You can hate her, you can adore her. Sometimes I do both. But I definitely love this record. Ok she wasn't the one who created it, but she is the one who has that voice and manner to sing. Her passion to old Hollywood movies and bad boys is her specific style she created. And songs are just fascinating. Not sure what will follow this album, but this one is worth a piece of gold. Would buy it for my CD collection.

3. Atl-J ''An Awesome Wave''

Newies who everybody praise for such experimental record. I agree. I am happy I got addicted to their 'awesome wave' before that hyper about them. Song "Breezeblocks" soked into my blood and left in for long time. This is song which goes on repeat and everytime I keep on saying that maniacal and obsessive phrases "I'll eat you whole I love you, I love you so". It was worth to watch "Where The Wild Things Are" and see what a nice thing inspired Alt-J guys to write such song. ANd this song isn't the one I like about this record. I am very happy they got their reward for work they put in this modern record. Bravo!

4. Zulu Winter "Language''

Hard to place all loved albums, but ok, this one is on 4th place and here is explanation. Name of the band could sound freezing, but zulu people are not arctic ones lol. I listened this album in spring in rainy or sunny weather, and it brought me only sunshine and feeling I am flying a few centimeters over ground. This music in incredibly light and gives some fresh air to inhale as much as a wish to dissolve in it leaving no bothers. Listening to their music is like swimming in it

5. The Big Pink ''Future This''

This record was the first one I listened in the beginning of 2012. It was released on January and as I listened to every next song I liked them all. Rare and amazing feeling. Deep bass and good vibes. Worth to listen on repeat whole record from the beginning to the last song.

6. Norah Jones ''Little Broken Hearts''

The irony and bitter words about another woman of her man - this is what makes special Norah's record. She says it being strong and indipendent woman, but unhappy still. And these emotions are wrapped with soul rhytms letting you slow down your hurry for some time and enjoy this record as a glass of bitter dry wine.

7. Muse "The 2nd Law"

Expected for a long time, but didn't amaze. Further I most probably wouldn't believe any of teasers this nad going to give fans. They do have a bit dubstep in a record, but basically they created another ''Resistance''. Live they perform ''Madness'' using lazers just like on ''Undisclosed Desires'', and ''Explorers'' reminded me of ''United States Of Eurasia'' which they played next after the first one (13.12.12 in Riga). There are some old ''Muse'' we used to know, but it is undeniable they are moving forward, maybe in a way I don't really like. Anyway I found good tracks for myself in here.

8. The Killers ''Battle Born''

Another big expectation. But as always it happens that you need time to listen and get used to new stuff your favurite band created. Songs about girl and boy relationships and how sweet they are or used to be pissed me off! I needed to skip that kind of songs and look at these lyrics through prism of Hot Fuss. And after ''Miss Atomic Bomb'' video was released I was here sitting in tears. Thanks to ''Mr.Brightside'', which is one epic beautiful song

9. Spector ''Enjoy It While It Lasts''

Sounds like one of these popular teenage indie bands. Nevertheless they could create really good record. Altogether it sounds as one piece and each song has its own magic and good vibes.

10. Two Door Cinema Club ''Beacon''

It is inappropriate to judge album after its cover, but this is really confusing since last records cover was hipster cat. In the end after about 5 times of listening ''Beacon'' I got used to it. This album doesn't have its magic and individuality as ''Tourist History'' had. Every song sounds good, well done and in style of TDCC. I just hope they create something more original in the future.

11. Linkin Park ''Living Things''

Since previous record it was scary to press ''play'' to that album, however when I heard it whole I was like 'They really did a good job'. In a mood of ''Minutes To Midnight'' and still better than ''A Thousand Suns''

12. Keane ''Strangeland''

Dreamy and fresh as spring wind. Nothing surprised me in this record, but it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. Nice one.

I have no other word to describe these guys as 'positive'. They bring very good vibes, smile, belief in better things. I am really proud they are from Latvia and still make such good music. Still surprise with new sounds, experiments, appropriate lyrics needed to be said

Not a disappointment, just kind of neutral attitude. They released new album so quick after first one like they did have this one hidden in a closet in case things goes well. And they did. Happy for them, enjoyed hearing them live and surely will like more songs from ''The Vaccines Come of Age'', but not for now.

Когда проводятся лотереи или розыгрыши чего-то, я учавствую, хотя понимаю, что с лотерейной удачей у меня 0 шансов. Но в этот раз, когда я заполняла заявку на концерт Prāta Vētra в честь 20-летия Swedbank в Латвии, я больше верила в свою удачу. Всё-таки чтобы собрать стадион, нужно несколько тысяч людей :) И, о ура, мне повезло! Хочу оставить заметочку в журнале об этом приятном событии.

Латышская публика крайне спокойная и не спешит занимать первые места под сценой, потому когда я пришла в стадиону около 17 часов, никого не обнаружила толкущегося у входа. На стадион стали пускать очень рано, в 18 часов как и планировалось, когда начало концерта было назначено на 20:30. В это время был приглашён диджей радио 101, который ставил музыку и действительно хорошую (как по мне :)). Adele, Foster The People, We Are Scientists, Of Monsters and Men, Blur (конечно же Song 2), и даже были неожиданные миксы Midnight City+Starlight и Lantern+Born to Die. Толпа, например, очень обрадовалась трэку Fun – We are Young. И под всё это по сцене ходили и танцевали парни (я так думаю что это было не девчёнки по движениям) переодетые в утку и белку, которые появляются в рекламных роликах банка. Ещё где-то ходил и ёжик, но только этих двух отправили развлекать толпу :) Хочу отметить утку за особо зажигательные танцы, а белку за старание делать колёсико. Нет, ну правда, было мило.

В половину девятого на сцену под апплодисменты быстренько вышел Ренарс Кауперс чтобы поприветствовать всех и объявить о группе-разогреве, которая ездила с ними в тур – The Sound Poets. А до этого на сцену выходил и проверял инструменты один парень с маленьким мальчиком, видимо со своим сыном. Жутко умилительно было, как маленький мальчик пританцовывал и понимал, что девчонки в первом ряду это видят и подзадоривают его. Как оказалось, это было гитарист The Sound Poets. На фото он как раз слева. Симпатичныыый...

По мне так почти все песни, какие они исполняли, были похожи одна на другую. Ничего нового, но песни были добрые, простые – иного и не хотелось слышать.

Почти в полдесятого на сцене снова появился Ренарс и представил руководителей банка и после их незатянутой речи (спасибо!), наступил момент ожидания выхода главной группы. На экранах появилась заставка с двигающимися геометрическими фигурами и через минуту на сцену вышли музыканты и заняли свои места. Появление солиста на сцене сопроводилось ярким освещением и пшиком дымовых струй вверх на сцене! Ренарс в этаком театральном образе - во фраке с милым приколотым цветочком, в круглой шляпке, кружился на сцене и задавал начало выдающемуся, больше чем двухчасовому концерту, на что я даже не рассчитывала. С самого начала всё было зрелищно и мощно началось с патриотичными словами Es būšu balts uz tumši sarkana fona из песни Ja tikai uz mani tu paskatītos. Уже третьей сыграли ту песню, за которую я голосовала при заполнении анкеты. Kaķēns kurš atteicās no jūrasskolas в целом даже не назвала бы самой-самой любимой песней, но в тот момент мне она так пришлась по душе, и вживую услышать её было так здорово!

Практически перед исполнением каждой песни рассказывали что-то про песню. Например, перед Ko tu domā? Ренарс рассказал, как встретил в магазине маленькую девочку и та, указав на него пальцем, принала его и сказала что она слушает их песни. На его вопрос о том, какая ей больше нравится, она сказала «Ну, в последнее время мне нравится ... Ko tu domā?!». Или исполняя старые песни, сами себе удивились, что некоторые песни ещё из прошлого века.

Песни действительно были выбраны лучшие, ведь все подпевали им и не переставая хлопали. То были песни постарше, то что-то из последних двух альбомов. Помимо всех латышскоязычных песен исполнили Maybe, Скользкие улицы и На Заре.

После группа удалилась за сцену, а пока на экранах стали показывать предисторию тому, в каком образе на сцене появятся музыканты. Видеоролик вещал о полёте участников Prāta Vētra в космос на планету с изображением-символикой группы – волком. Бес пафоса и с комичными моментами. Уже в реальности они переодетые в белые комбинезоны заняли места на платформах, которые медленно двигались по треугольному ходу от сцены к залу. Вот такое необычное представление под Lantern.

А дальше началось что-то из ряда вон. Был дуэт с Gustavo, кусочек Plaukstas lieluma pavasaris, были танцы под недолгий мотив Satisfaction и мигающие огоньки в этих костюмах-комбинезонах. Всё это слилось в совершенно иное шоу, будто действительно перенесло на другую планету как и было задумано. Но на лиричной ноте Tu izvēlējies palikt платформы снова сдвинулись и стали возвращаться обратно в сторону сцены. Не могло же всё так кончится, хоть Ренарс и махал рукой словно прощаясь с нами.

Прожектора погасли, но не надолго. На экране стали отображать текст, дразнящий толпу – «Может ещё одну песню?». Толпа кричит. «Уверены?». Все согласны. «А может две?». Зал кричит ещё громче! «Уверены?». Ну конечно. «Ну тогда поехали!». И группа снова выходит на сцену. Ренарс теперь в майке с надписью-названием последнего альбома. Начинают играть топ 3 песни. Сначала Ренарс выразился, что теперь подошли к тройке, которая самая лучшая. Потом засмущался, что это можно воспринять как оценку, и исправился :) Rudens, Spogulīt spogulīt, которую поёт Янис стоя высоко на небольшой платформе в форме полушара, спускающейся до сцены. Очередные «спецэффекты». Очень чувственное исполнение – иного и не может быть для столь прелестной песни. Особенно всех трогает Mana Dziesma, все поют хором, как кажется и каждую песню, и слышен дружный голос зала:

Но тут снова зажигают зал взрывной Četri Krasti (Thunder without rain). Когда уже исполнили и топ 3, и ещё пару песен, кажется что уже всё, скажут до свидания и уйдут. Но Ренарс только предупреждает, что концерт подходит к концу и они продолжают играть. «Ну и где же мои самолёты?» говорит он, и толпа взрывается! Все готовы к финальному полёту! Заводной ритм переходит в такую же быструю мелодию песни Čiekuri. Un man nav žēeeel, un man nav žēeeeel! Никто не скупится на аплодисменты, уверена никто не жалел как провёл этот вечер, и участники группы получили заряд энергии от зала, который был крайне приветлив и пел все песни вместе с ними.

Prāta Vētra такие позитивные, излучают положительную энергию своей музыкой, улыбками и раскрепощённо ведут себя на сцене. Возможно это у себя на родине они такие, но всё равно не отнять у них очарования. Уже спустя 2 недели после концерта я не перестаю радоваться тому вечеру и хочу снова увидеть Brainstorm вживую. Как-то в т/ц услышав давнюю Viss ir tieši tā kā tu vēlies, я вспомнила как Ренарс артистично позировал и пританцовывал перед многотысячной публикой, и сама еле удерживалась как бы не затанцевать посреди магазина :)

В этом году получилось так, что я снова побывала на концерте Poets Of The Fall. Если бы не горячее желание брата опять попасть на их концерт (тем более они за два дня до даты концерта должны были и выпустили новый альбом), я бы не поехала. К тому же требовалось какое-то утешение после отменённого концерта, о котором я отдельно ещё напишу (надеюсь соберусь всё-таки)).

Этот концерт состоялся на все 100%. Он был лучше прошлого раза.
Мы пришли к ГлавКлубу около полседьмого, рассчитывая, что в 19:00 откроются двери. В Питере в этом время было достаточно прохладно, всего каких +3, ещё лежал снег на полях под Питером, а дома в Латвии уже +10 и больше было. Хорошо что светило солнце и не давало нам совсем продрогнуть. Получилось так, что как солнце спряталось, полвосьмого нам открыли ворота и вся толпа понеслась своим течением в зал. Мы быстренько попали внутрь и побежали в зал, где оказались примерно в пятом ряду (в принципе как и в прошлый раз). На фоне играла какая-то неопределённая музыка, какой-то дабстеп - нежёсткий, не как у Скифчи:).

Поэты вышли без лишних спецэффектов, без облака дыма, от которого в прошлый раз меня стало жутко мутить. Марко с боа на шее, в шляпе как в клипе Cradled in Love , прихватив баночку кока-колы, явился и жестами активно стал приветствовать столпу, начиная шоу с песни из нового альбома Kamikaze Love. Продолжили всеми любимой Diamonds for Tears, далее сыграли заглавную песню нового альбома - Temple of Thought. Каждую песню играли с достоинством, особенно стараясь и выкладываясь, ведь этот концерт открывал их новый тур по свежевышедшему альбому. Чувствовалось, что это был такой долгожданный момент после времени написания нового материала, который они так хотят сыграть верным фанатам.

Больше всего я ждала Roses, хотя боялась что возможно это не та песня из старого альбома, которую будут играть часто и сыграют в этот раз. После третьей песни Марко стал говорить, что сейчас исполнят давнюю песню, и я подумала - может это Розы? Нет, навряд ли. И каково же было чувство, когда их то они и объявили! Тут то я пела, а брат записывал видео:)

Дальше всё шло в таком же хорошо начатом ритме. На Cradled in Love фанаты подготовили флэшмоб - со всех сторон стали пускать мыльные пузыри. Музыканты были приятно удивлены и в конце песни одобрительно отметили эту идею.

Мы с братом дружно записывали видео - одну-две я, другую он; хочется же на память иметь собственно записанные видео с концерта. Locking Up the Sun, War, The Lie Eternal - такие true песни поэтов, очень характерные им. На The Lie Eternal Марко немного пошалил, заставив кого-то смутиться, а кого-то закричать от восторга))) Он очень часто опускался на корточки и старался дотянуться рукой до рук фанатов из первых-вторых рядов, заигрывал с гитаристами - замахивался микрофонным проводом по мягкому месту Олли, пританцовывал спиной к спине с Яни. Лиричная Stay, Illusion & Dream, потом Gravity, на которой Марко всех активно агитировал махать руками и весь зал дружно махал из стороны в сторону руками, и Late Goodbye, которой все-все подпевали и под конец зал солировал.

Как только музыканты ушли со сцены, зал сразу же стал хлопать и настойчиво кричать "We want more". Прошла наверное минута и они вернулись - ведь они не исполнили Carnival of Rust :) Они сказали как им приятно было снова вернуться в Петербург к столь любящим фанатам и что им в радость уделить дополнительное время нам. Неожиданно они стали играть акустику. Гитаристы втроём уселись на стульчики по центру и Марко начал такие танцы-шманцы...))

(Посмотрите видео до конца. Маленький кусочек Happy Song вызвал такою реакцию, что зал пришлось заткнуть))

И напоследок нам на радость достались Dreaming Wide Awake, долгожданный Carnival of Rust и Lift. Брат сказал: "Прости систер, но это я отказываюсь записывать." :) Итого вышло 16 песен! Гитаристы ещё минут 5 не могли, так сказать, "кончить" и продолжали на концовке Lift выжимать из гитар всё, что можно. И когда гитары утихли и все музыканты покинули сцену, зал не отступал и продолжал аплодировать, скандировать "we want more", "Poets of the Fall", "Happy Song", хотя понимал, что навряд ли они выйдут, чтобы ещё исполнить песню на бис. Толпа не умолкала, и музыканты вышли, только уже не на сцену, а в промежутке между сценой и барьером чтобы дать автографы. Все так дружно передавали билеты вперёд, чтобы участники группы могли расписаться на них, и так радовались, когда им возвращали билетики с заветными автографами. Мы тоже получили подписанные билеты - целых 3 автографа на каждом :)

(И почему самые симпатичные музыканты Поэтов не являются официальными их участниками?))

После концерта мы были такие помятые, хотя давки по сути не было. Но зато довольные, а брат и наша общая хорошая знакомая так особенно рады, так как они особенно любят Поэтов :)

P.S. Кстати мы останавливались в том же хостеле, что и в прошлый раз, и нас заселили в ту же самую комнату. Что-то всё же остаётся неизменным :) А на следующий день мы с братом поехали домой, и по пути снова было это внушающее величие здание Национальной библиотеки на станции Парка победы. Не налюбуюсь.

5. The Black Keys "El Camino"
Listened to it in early morning in a bus and all sleepiness didn't affect perception. Each song seemed different, special!

3. Florence + The Machine "Ceremonials"
Bedroom Hymns, Shake It Out, No Light No Light, and I feel list of very favourite songs will be extending like it was with her first record. Her work is unique, magical. Admire her.

Not much to say, only how good this album is. It just re-wired me, huh, rather from not exploring their previous stuff.

#1 Kaiser Chiefs "The Future Is Medieval"
Child Of The Jago (!!!), I Dare You(!), Little Shocks, Kinda Girl You Are, Out Of Focus, Back In December, Man On Mars, Problem Solved
It is rather personal and partly reposes on their previous albums, because attening their gig played its role much. It was a period when I listened to each of their song from previous records like crazy. Definitely new favourites of the year. This record introduced me to them and you can see how much songs I appreciate in here.

P.S. Also I want to point on some artists I liked this year. There goes The XX (how sensual they sound, very minimalistic, but not less enjoyable music), Black Light Dinner Party (they even didn't release their first EP, only 3 songs, which I love! Check them out!), Arcade Fire, Bombay Bicycle Clubs, M83, Noah and the Whale latest album seems so nice, as well as Bon Iver's one. Loved The Naked And Famous 2010 year record. Explored and enjoyed whole Placebo, The Strokes, My Chemical Romance, Coldplay, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, (partly) The Cure, Poets Of The Fall, IAMX, The Libertines discographies.

Kaiser Chiefs @ Palladium Riga 12-10-2011

Let's try my best to write kinda personal-emotional-review for a concert I attended this week. For the honour of band's homeland I am doing it on English, huh.

So, I don't remember if I mentioned here that in August I read news about Kaiser Chiefs coming to play a concert in Riga on October 12. I wasn't a big fan of them, but I was a bit obsessed with 'The Angry Mob' and my friend aka basta_tragedy had very positive feelings about this band, so I was very sure I want to see them live and bought a ticket as they were available in booking-office.
That was such a sweet waiting for the upcoming gig (as always I get it :)) Unfortunately, I didn't find any friend who would like to join me in interest to see this band which has quite a lot top hit songs, e.g., everybody knows "Ruby".But it doesn't matter, because important for me was the band and their positive and energetic music I was going to hear and dance to.

On the concert day I got early from job and was in ~17:40 at place the gig was about to take place. Palladium is a brand new club, in which on 30th September James Blunt was the first artist who played for the first time in here. Earlier there was a cinema - even my parents know about it -, and now it is transformed into a club. As I read there were used newest decoration materials to achieve better sound quality in the hall.

As you can see, I met no one waiting for their favourite band so early! Since I have been to 30 Seconds To Mars and Muse gigs I used to think that there are always big fans who are waiting at concert place for 2-3 hours (or even more!) before doors open. Even one hour before Poets Of The Fall gig in St.Petersburg there were a small crowd of fans. Seriously, I felt like a forever alone fan, lol) I took a walk on streets for a half of hour to amuse some time. Btw, it is located in the center of Riga, but I am not running across exactly these streets and it was a fresh new impressions about Riga and I remembered this feeling I got when did come to Riga for the first-second time. Back to the ~~day~~ evening. Around 18:30 appeared one guy, then girl, more girls, boys and everything started to become normal. I told I wasn't a big fan of Kaiser Chiefs, but I was quite excited and was looking forward some fun time this evening. It came up, that I was the first one to show my ticket and I took the best place in hall I could ever dream about - right to the border in front of microphone stand!

I knew who will heat up the crowd before Kaiser Chiefs come on stage. These Latvian guys (and one girl) - "Bērnības Milicija" -" played very nice music, I must admit it. Sorry, but I feel so sceptic about our bands` potential, but now I must reconsider my opinion. The drummer played so good, the guitarists were, too. I met a girl who stood next to me and we were discussing how nerdy these guys look, but we approved their music, though, the singer was so pokerface, lol. Btw, she is an echelon, too, and has been to many gigs, e.g. Muse and Placebo.

I was filled with a thrill. The band was going to come in few minutes.
They showed up to shouts and clap from the crowd and started playing some intro music (it's "Howlaround"). And then "Every Day I Love You Less And Less". Such a blast!!! Many photographs were running in free space between border and stage, taking photos, getting me jealous with their cool lenses, lol)

After third song they were gone and guys were all ours. Ricky didn't waste time and went to crowd - he stepped on border, gave high-five to someone and stood like this for a half a minute holded by a guard. I tried to watch Nick playing drums, other Nick and guitarists, their behavior, but Ricky was walking from one stage side to another, sang with such passion that I kept looking at him. Everything changes when you see band playing live. Songs they sing become alive, vibrant and make you clap your hands to each of them, even if you haven't heard any of them before (I am talking abour "Problem Solved" - I listened to CD version of "The Future Is Medieval").

I have read about how bouncy Ricky used to be and it was prooved. It gets sticky and you can't stop yourself from the same excitement and passion about the song. And what he does with microphone stand! Ricky throws it higher than 2 meters up and nothing or no one gets hurt by it falling to the ground. He even catches microphone from falling stand. Is it his girlfriend that he knows so well how to treat it?Lol)

Some personal memories. I may mistake, but I noticed Ricky looking at first row and I started smiling, and then smile appeared on his face, too. That was just too sweet to be real, but at that moment I was sure he looked at girl in front of him, haha) Also, he threw a bottle of water (thank God it wasn't opened!) to us and I can admit I caught it (I dropped it, though xD )- I picked it up later.

There were just a few songs from latest album. I was sure Kaiser Chiefs will play "Man On Mars", I was hoping for "Out Of Focus" and "Chils Of The Jago" to be played, too, but it came out that they choose to play more songs from previous 3 albums. I am really glad, because these songs have more beat and joy. All this rapid rhytm rushed concert forward so quick. I tried to stop and make myself realize fully what is happening right now and how great moment I am living right now, though, I could only keep on jumping to "Ruby", enjoy "The Angry Mob", repeat "NaNaNaNaNa" over and over again. "I Predict A Riot" was something crazy - this song blows mind far far away.

As you can see below, the last song was "OMG". Hard end of the night, I mean it.
I saw some articles about the gig and in one of them was told the point, that Kaiser Chiefs didn't played at 100% and it is bad. I would say they played as good as they could give to Riga - new city in country they played for the first time. They did a great job - 16 songs, a lot of energy, some talks with crowd. Ricky linked city name to "Ruby" song and sang "Riga-Riga-Riga-Riga" = sweet. And they promised to come back. I really hope they will do! Because from now on I call myself a fan of KC :) I regret nothing.

Наконец я захватила с собой фотоаппарат и засняла этот красивый понемногу тающий лёд на Даугаве.
А главное - какая тихая погода, какое голубое небо с лёгким закатным оттенком. Ммм.
Я надеялась что на обратном пути после лекции паром Tallink будет всё ещё стоять, но он уплыл, эх.
