About Me

Gidday, Welcome to my blog.

It’s one of travel, adventure and doing what makes us happy.

Exploring, writing and taking photos has always been a love of mine.

Today I contribute regularly to a number of well established Australian travel magazines, which you can view here.

For six years ( from 2018 till 2024) I wrote a monthly column in the well respected Australian travel magazine On the Road.

And then there’s my blog, where you’ve landed.

I’ll take you beyond the ordinary “what to see” and “where to go”. I’ll immerse you in the experience and feeling of a place.

Here you’ll find a combination of travel and motivation. Living authentically, mindfully and enjoying the moments, wherever they might be.

I’ll show you Australia through my eyes.

Embracing the light

Today my passion in life is inspiring others to get out and travel and to see the bigger picture in life.

Since July 2021, on and off, I’ve been travelling the width and breadth of Australia with my wonderful husband and partner in life and adventure Doug, in our Jayco Journey and, as of January 2025 in our new All Terrain caravan.

I’ve been documenting it on the way, through published magazine stories, through this blog, my own personal journals and Instagram.

I used to think I was living my dream but now I realise I’m co-creating my reality. At one with the Universe.

After ten months on the road (in 2021) we returned to Victoria and life took a huge turn. We changed direction completely as we gave up the hamster wheel 9-5, we took a job in the Grampians and discovered a new way of life.

On 11th November 2022, after selling our home of 26 years, the next stage of life began. With both our children grown we’ve officially become empty-nesters.

Now we’re full time travellers and I’m embracing this time of change, new possibilities and surrendering to the unknown. This is my time of self-discovery.

I love life and being in alignment with who I am (I’m still discovering that) and my purpose on this earth. I feel as though 2020 was a turning point and the past five years in particular has been a huge time of growth, choice and personal transformation. Through all of the unknowns I’m excited to see where the road takes us next.

Loving life as we embrace the unknown.

This is where I’ll share my life, on the road around Australia and in those places I call home. For everywhere is home and adventure is found everywhere, it’s simply how we look at life.

Did I say we also house and pet sit?

Feel free to reach out to me if you’d like to collaborate. Or just drop by and say hello. I’ll always reply.

Happy travels. Here’s to enjoying the journey together.

Miriam

  1. Hi Miriam, glad to have found you. I enjoyed reading your posts, what an adventure they are. 🙂 Also I’ve seen one of your comments in a different blog, may I know how did u started being a contributor to travel magazines? Is there any tips you can share.

Thanks! Cheers to more travel! 🙂

    1. Hi Jen, thanks for stopping by. Like I said in my Bio it took me a long time to crack the magazine market but basically it comes down to perseverance. Study the magazines you submit to, send a query email to the editor, follow up, send another one, don’t be afraid to make yourself known. Ask for their Contributor Guidelines so you know the format of how to send a pitch. Try and find magazines that are not so well known and glossy. Pick a niche, do you like writing about animals, health, well being, sport, music? What ever you love and are passionate about, look up those magazines. And don’t give up. If you want it badly enough you’ll get there. All the best Jen. 🙂

  2. Sounds great, Miriam. I’ve always fancied doing a bit of a travel blog myself – mind if I hang out here and see if I can learn a little something from you?

  3. Hi Miriam, glad you found my blog which has led me to yours. I’m looking forward to seeing more of the mainland through you (I’m not a person who enjoys travel in reality).

  4. Hello! It’s going to be fun following your blog! Adventure is what I crave. I don’t get to travel as my life won’t allow it at this time, but I’m so glad this blogging thing was invented. Now I get to through eyes such as yours! How exciting, published writer! I can see how that would be very exciting. Every piece different and challenging. How wonderful to be doing something you love! Best wishes to you! Cheers, Koko:)

  6. Oh! I love reading travel stories. It gives me a constant reminder of how big and yet how small our world is 🙂 And it makes me add places to my already growing ‘need to visit’ list 😀 I will soon return and read through and join in on your travels (virtually) and many writings 🙂

  8. Awesome to meet you, Miriam. It’s so cool to hear from writers who have worked their way into the freelance biz 🙂 I’m glad you’ve come this far — and I’m sure further awaits. I’m hoping to discover The Passion that drives me to do something similar.

P.S. Props to dark chocolate — the only way to go.
Cheers & looking forwards to following your journeys!

  9. Hi Miriam, wow – I love that you also contribute towards magazines! I wonder, how did this come about? I would love to contribute to holistic health and wellness magazines. Did you just approach them with a sample of your writing? Warm wishes, Hayley xx

    1. Hi Hayley, yes I pretty much did that. Studied my markets, emailed the editors, got their specs, tailored the articles to what they wanted and sent a pitch and/or a complete package of words and pics. It took a while but was worth persevering. You could do the same with the heath and wellness magazines, they’re often on the lookout for new writers. Good luck! xo

  13. Hello dear Miriam,
Your ‘About’ reads beautifully and includes your many passions and interests. We can receive a little surprise with every post, wondering what adventures you’ve been having with your family or perhaps reading about your ‘close to home’ thoughts that arise in your heart, as you watch the sunset from your garden…
Whatever inspires your creative writing, I’ll be along for the journey with you…
    Hugs from Di 💕🌹
