➥HERE AND THERE

> AKARI POWER PLANT。 A power plant down just outside the souther border of the city. It's-- a power plant. A nuclear one. That's about it.

> BROKEN LANTERN。 A somewhat run down izakaya a short walk from the park center that's open twenty three hours a day. Sit at the bar or grab a table, the food is as tasty as the prices demand and similarly the alcohol is watered accordingly. Large enough and yet small enough to suit most tastes no matter if you're there for dancing or just to eat and drink and make merry, it's always understaffed but somehow the food is on time and the drinks keep flowing. The owner and staff aren't concerned with what your business is or how anonymous you wish to stay, no one gets turned away from the door and there are no questions asked aside from 'will there be anything else?'-- but be warned, any violence that occurs inside tends to stay inside.

> CLUB ZODIAC。 A formerly abandoned and beat up old nightclub located near the Kuroda Market square. It's been cleaned up and fixed quite nicely thanks to The Masquerade cultists, now it's done up in dark velvet colors and has a second floor for sitting and drinking and watching the dance floor below. Kurosu Jun lives in and runs the place and handles pretty much all of the business himself. The pretty young thing can usually be found near the bar or on the second floor balcony if he's around, and he'll even treat you to a dance if you like. (Boys especially.)The place is for all ages, the bar is stocked (especially with non-alcoholics for all the underage kids), the music is hot and the dance floor is begging for attention. People tend to become regulars if they come often enough, too. After all, The Zodiac is also a Masquerade recruiting spot for young people...

> KURODA MARKET。 The shopping area for the commoners, usually referred to just as "The Market." A huge open-air market where people come to sell their wares. Clothes, food products, toys, electronics, the occasional luxury like (fake) brand-name designer bag. Here, the goods are considerably shoddier, but at least they're within buying range.

> PARK CENTRE。 A large plot of somewhat-green grass near the center of Tokyo - can't get much more literal, eh? It's not maintained very well, the grass is sort of jagged and sort of wilting and sort of graying, but it's a good place if you just want to relax and walk around (possibly with a lover.) There's also a small lake, and a place where you can buy pigeon food, and a guy selling chips and bottles of water, and, well, you get the point.

> SHIROYAMA MALL。 The mall located up near the northern area of the city, commonly called "The Mall" - but it's not a place where most people can shop. It's pretty much a playground for the lucky rich minority of the city - luxurious restaurants, expensive clothes stores, the whole kit and caboodle. Normal people? You better save up for at least an year before even venturing there - and even then, you probably won't be able to afford much more than a simple meal and a T-shirt.

> SCHOOLS。 Tokyo is a large city, and there are a number of schools dotted around the place. Most of them are separate elementary (grades 1-6), middle (grades 7-9) and high (grades 10-12); there isn't much difference between any of them except location and name. Of course, there is the school up near that small area where all the rich people are, but most people aren't even allowed near that place. Your average school is slightly old, slightly shoddy, slightly in need of repair, but it's not bad, all things considered. Some examples: Namimori High, Gekkoukan High. An underground school, where vampires and humans are free to intermix, also exists; it's called Cross Academy.

> THE OLD CHURCH。 The big, Gothic cathedral seems a little out of place seated in a less-than-savory neighborhood (less-than-savory before the war, some would argue), just a few minutes' walk from the southern entrance to the park. The massive building is easily viewable, even from there. Odd though it is, it's become a staple in the neighborhood. It held strong through the war, and still stands as proudly as it did when it was first built. A refuge, a hideout, and maybe a weapons locker if you know the right people, the church doors are always open to anyone. Just watch out for the lone clergyman, he's a little... strange.

> TRADER JYU'S。 A trading station, and a slightly less orthodox method of obtaining what you want, but hey, it works. A small establishment owned and run by Jyuden Iskall, and the best place to come if you're looking for expensive goods without having to pay an arm and a leg. It's kind of dependent on luck - sometimes he'll have tenderloin steaks and silk dresses up for sale, but other times it's just whatever he could grab from the leftover shipments to the rich areas. Either way, he doesn't take cash, but only does barter - offer him weapons, food, clothes, goods, whatever you have - and sometimes he won't even ask for much more than your name or some small talk, if he's feeling nice.

> TOKYO GENERAL HOSPITAL。 What the name suggests, it's the largest hospital in the entire area. Of course, there are small clinics here and there, but this is the big one. Treatment varies, if you have money to burn, expect some of the best treatment possible, if not-- feel lucky there's treatment at all. Of course there might be some nice doctors ready to help at the risk of their own pay for big surgeries if you can't afford it, but don't count on it.

> TV TOKYO BROADCASTING STATION。 The headquarters of the nation's main TV station. It's a huge gray building a few stories high, with the name written out in bright letters on the top. Usually, it's just there. Not much exciting about a TV building, is there? Occasionally, if you're really lucky, maybe you'll see a celebrity or two flitting out the place, but most people don't pay it too much attention; who cares about celebrities in this day and age, anyway?

Though journal interaction is an open option, this is mostly a log-based community. When writing logs, please keep the following in mind:

⇒ Logs will be third-person point-of-view. However, feel free to write entirely in narrative style ("...and he walked down the street, and said, "Where is this?") or go with describing actions in comments ("[And he walks down the street.] "Where is this?")

⇒ To keep comments from getting squashed against the side of the page, it's advised that when logging, all tags are posted as new comments, instead of replies, and the players subscribe to the post. This makes it much easier to read, and keeps comment threads from being collapsed after a while. Also makes it easier for logs involving multiple people!

⇒ All logs are to be placed under a cut, and any logs rated M or NC-17 must be clearly marked as such. We did warn players upon applying, but it's always nice to provide a warning to someone who might stumble upon your logs.

⇒ The log header can be found [ HERE ]. Please make sure to fill it out at the beginning of each log.

> SIX。 CONCERNING JOURNALS:

Characters journals are exactly that: they have a blog. They can post in it every day, or not at all, whatever is in-character for them. Friending other journals is an open option, too, and if a character wants to start drama with a friends-cut, that's fine, too. Just make sure you don't defriend otromods, otrolado or otrowhat and it's all good!

APPLICATION GUIDELINES.

For Fandom Characters;

- STAY IC. A given, of course. The game is an AU, meaning their past will naturally be different from their original past. However, that doesn't mean you turn your character into someone else entirely. They must be recognizable as the character you want to portray, with different events having led to their personality as it is now.

This isn't to say they can't be affected differently thanks to their new canon, but they must sound and act like the characters they're meant to be.

- Canon; As some characters have some pretty interesting backstories from their original series, see if you can integrate their canon in a convincing manner into Otrolado's. Creativity is the spice of life after all. (:

- Be Creative!; If you find yourself stuck, try and imagine how the characters would react in a world like this. What of their canon could work, how would they have been living so far here? What are their motivations? Keep all that in mind when you're apping, and please make it realistic to the canon of this game.

- Powers; Regarding abilities, please remember to be reasonable. Don't go around making your characters overpowered, even if they are in their own canon. Also, this must be stressed: if your character is normal in canon, they stay normal. They don't gain any abilities. They don't get altered in any shape/way/form. Their race/species stays the same. In other words, they stay normal.

- Series; Don't forget to put down your character's series!

For OCs;

- CREATE YOUR CHARACTERS WITH OTROLADO CANON IN MIND;

It goes without saying. You can't have characters suddenly dropping in from outer space or from 2001, be sure to read the rules and the setting before making your characters.

Does this mean I can't use characters I've created before?;

Not unless you change their canon to somehow fit Otrolado's storyline. Again, if you want to apply for important positions within the game and the higher up organizations, contact the mods to level out how much authority they can have. All plot-aiding help is welcome. :)

What powers can my characters have?;

Project Yurei and The Sphere conducted many, MANY experiments, many of which your characters could have suffered side effects from, been survivors of and so on. Yurei deals with more supernatural instances, while The Sphere is connected towards biogenetic and scientific enhancements. Mechas, cyborgs, all come from there. While Yurei will play upon the spiritual and creepy. Go wild, but also be realistic in accordance to the plot. We don't want kemonomimi fairy mecha angels flitting about the place.

Remember, don't worry about powers. Normal people who are powerless are encouraged too!!

> How does this game work?
This game is mainly run by a log-focused type of system. This means third-person writing and the whole she-bang. You are free to go for the [ ] route as well. Just don't use the main community, otrolado, as your character's journal. Use their own journals instead.

> Wait. Use their own journals?
Yes. Characters are allowed to keep journals, do their comment-spam thing, and etc. They don't even have to add all of the characters-- just the ones they trust. Think of it as the character REALLY having a livejournal. This isn't mandatory too, because just because we're on the network doesn't mean your character has to be as well, right? What's mandatory is that you friend otromods as well, so the mods can ~~spy~~ keep an eye on you.

> . . . so the idea of a character doing a friend's cut is--?
Damn well possible and even encouraged. (:

But let's move on, shall we?

> Can other characters see another character's journal name?
No. Journals are just text posts with an image of your face [i.e. the usericons] attached. So feel free to give your character the LJ 'omgsexycloud' or 'keybladesroxxors' without it causing any confusion between characters.

> Is this roleplay AU?
You bet. It's the only way it'd work. But if you can somehow work your character's canon into their history here? Go for it. You're given a lot of options to do that. If you're unsure, you could always check in with the mods.

> Does this game run on real-time?
Nope. For logs, we figure that'd be going way too fast, so we came up with this: 4 RL Days = 1 IC Day. Meaning, an 1 RL day would be 12:00AM - 05:59AM, the next would be 06:00AM - 11:59AM, and so on.

> So what do I do here?
Survive, mostly. Make friends, make enemies; whatever possible in a post-war city.

> What kind of people can we find here?
Humans (normal or affected--more on that later), scientists, rebels, other everday things. Only difference is that the population is littered with abandoned or escaped "ex-soldiers." More on that in the next question.

> Affected humans?
Thirteen years ago, there was a huge explosion that affected a large area of the country. This explosion had its side-effects, aside from your typical dying and burning, of course. What it did was either take away someone's power, or give them power, OR make them lose something else (eyesight, hearing, sense of smell, etc.).

NOTE: This is a different explosion from the one that sent a lot of people into comas. That one happened a year ago, while this one happened thirteen years ago.

> Elaborate on these thrown-out projects.
Think X-men with a vulgar twist of horror. Anything's possible. We've got a werewolf-vampire hybrid for crying out loud. From the plainest abilities like weather-sensing to full-blown monsters. We've also got elementals: fire, water, earth, light, your call.

> Anything's possible?
We think it goes without saying that anything's possible, but be reasonable. Use your head and think smart. Since this game allows fandom characters, they are allowed to retain their canon abilities, but obviously, they're going to be limited. Not everyone can be the almighty character they are in their own canon, or else that ruins the fun for everyone, right?

NOTE: For fandom characters, please keep in mind that, even though we did say go wild, don't assume that it's free game for you to modify your character to a point that they're completely different from their original self. The two companies are there to HELP you explain why they're out of the ordinary, NOT give your characters new abilities and/or change them into a different being.

> So mechas and airships are--?
Out of the question. Consider them as a banned project of The Sphere. However, by saying that, canon pilots are given the choice of having their characters break a system out from The Sphere's headquarters at a later date, provided that they give us sufficient warning in advance.

> The Sphere?
The first company to dare to break the rules, and their main focus is science. Anything you can create scientifically? You bet they've tried it. Genetically engineered humans, androids, mechas, powerful weapons, and more. If Physics can explain it? Sure, why not? Air pressure applied to water makes for smooth control most of the time-- elementals aren't the only ones who've got an edge here. But a lot of their best work is either locked away or destroyed. The war's over now, right? Can't have powerful hellions running around and ruining the peace.

> Project Yurei?
Ah, the rival group. Founded by ten scientists who originally came from The Sphere, they aimed to do something a bit more magical, to put it simply. Their creations always have a supernatural background, so really, the sky's the limit for him. But they're not without their own kinks: every single creation they made always had drawbacks, from screwed-up endurance, to painful side-effects, and more. Call them glitches to keep their soldiers in line.

> So did the people agree to be their soldiers willingly or were they forced?
It depends on how you look at it. Both companies took whoever they could, so volunteers were more than welcome. And when that fell in short of demand? They'd dig up graves, pick up the dead bodies on the streets, and turn them into their own worst nightmares. Some were thankful to be brought back to life. Others? Not so much.

> Can fandom characters be an ex-soldier of either company?
Sure. If it helps you explain why they're out of the ordinary.

> What if my character is normal in canon?
They stay normal. You can't turn them into a supernatural being here or whatever.

> What if my character died in canon?
You have two options: the roleplay's AU, so they never died OR you can make use of that magnetic pulse wave that sent a lot of people into a coma. Your characters could be one of them and at the time you pick them up, they could wake up.

> Any setbacks if my character landed themselves in that coma?
Yes. If your character has powers, then there would be a "block" on it. As in, they wouldn't be able to remember how to use it. For a while, at least. The length of time it takes them depends on you and how strong the power is. If your character has no powers, then all they'd lose is just their memories. It could be all of them or just a select few. It's up to you.

> What if my character dies?
They stay dead. Sorry, but death is permanent around here. So if you don't want that character to get killed, then don't go around doing crazy stuff that will.

> Are we allowed to have angels/demons here?
OL canon considers them as the most powerful beings there is. So real ones? Not gonna happen. Genetically engineered ones? Sure, why not? Project Yurei tried to crack the Genesis Code for a while, but they couldn't crack it completely. So if you want to have angels/demons in here, then they'd be only an incomplete one. But of course, please IM one of the mods to iron out some details before you go ahead. We'd like to keep these guys under a limited amount.

> How easy is it to procure weapons or supplies?

Not that easy, actually. It takes some skills, but there are several methods. If your characters are part of the rich minority, then money can get you pretty much anything. If they're not rich, then, well, it gets a little trickier. Characters associated with mafia or yakuza groups would be able to get their hands on supplies and weapons. Those more passive civilians would have to depend on The Market for general stuffs, and trade stores or special weapons dealers characters (we might have some popping up!) for anything else.

So, you wanna know the facts? It's not that hard to figure out, really. But just for your sake, I'll give it a try. Here we go.

FACT : The setting, Japan, just on fast-forward for a hundred years. Two organizations. Yurei. Sphere. One objective, to build the most powerful army for the nation of the Rising Sun. Except that didn't float too well with the other countries, you know? The UN teamed up and blotted out Japan from the world map. Bye bye, Nippon. International transportation, in and out, gone. Japan is a nation on it's own, shattered and broken.

FACT : The main focus, Tokyo. An anarchist society, now. City? What city? It's just torn-up streets and abandoned buildings and people living wherever they can, however they can. It's all been desecrated by the war.

FACT : And I hear you ask, what war?

Well, the war between the Sphere and the Yurei, of course. The competition to create the most powerful army in the world - and we're not just talking normal foot soldiers, either. Magic. Vampires. Werewolves. Genetic clones. Elementals. Anything you could think of.

But then, like all wars, it ended with a bang and a fizzle. An attempt - no one knows from which side - to wipe out everyone. BOOM BANG CRASH and FLASH, goes the ultramagnetic pulse wave from the bomb, through the streets of Tokyo. The bomb succeeded, in a way - put a grand total of a few hundred thousand people into a coma. A coma that they're still in, all the bodies in a state of living death in a public facility somewhere in the outskirts of the city.

FACT : But that's what stopped the war, at least.

An event of such big magnitutde couldn't be ignored, and with that, the two sides decided that a standstill was necessary. Fighting put to an end. Soldiers retired and dismissed. Experiments put on halt. And pursual of the Genesis Code, the code to produce and clone the ultimate angel-demon soldiers, that's been hushed, too.

Time for recovery, eh?

FACT : That stalemate to the war was put into effect an year ago.

The city's still full of renegades and libertines. Retired soldiers, still with their inhuman abilities, using them as leverage to survive the shattered streets. People slowly waking out of those comas, one by one. Organizations gathering - to make living better for the defenseless, maybe, or to exploit the defenseless for their own good.

Who knows.
