Haarolean I think this should be reopened.
#1615 is a related to ".lan", a special domain popularized by google devices and some router manufactures, is not readily(out of the box) recognized by most OS and browsers.
However, ".local" exists and in used more than 10yrs(RFC6762 2013-02). It is the default domain for zero-config/mDNS across major OSs such as Windows, MacOS, Linux, and browser as FF, Safari, Chrome.
Requiring an ending "/" means ".local" is not being treated as top level domain, and qualify as bug.
Additionally, this is affecting both desktop and mobile. Not sure about Linux version.
PS: mDNS/zero-config:
MacOS: if there is no entry in dns domain search, .local is used by default
Windows: only .local is allowed if mDNS is enabled, not changable.
Linux: avahi-daemon, .local is the default config.
