postmarketOS

A real Linux distribution for phones

About

We are postmarketOS, an operating system that runs on a wide variety of devices, such as smartphones. We believe that hardware should be used sustainably and not thrown away just because its creator no longer supports it. Your device should not track you or help others collect and sell your data, and it should not constantly demand your attention in order to show you advertisements. Your device is yours, and you should be able to use it as you wish. These are the goals that drive postmarketOS.

We also believe in the importance of free and open source software to meet our ambitious goals. postmarketOS is based on Alpine Linux, we contribute to many other free software projects upstream, and all our code is published under free and open source software licenses. Everyone is free to use our code at no cost and for any purpose, free to audit our code, free to modify it, and free to publish their own version. We are strongly invested in building a community around the work we are doing so that users, developers, and our many partner projects can continue to move postmarketOS and Linux on phones forward.

Donations will predominantly be used to:

  • pay full-time developers to accelerate improvements to postmarketOS and contributions to the wide Linux ecosystem we depend on.
  • fund ongoing infrastructure costs and expansions where appropriate, and purchase devices for development and testing.
  • host hackathons, bringing developers together face-to-face for more rapid collaboration, in addition to funding some of the travel costs associated with these events.

We use funds efficiently and intelligently. Please note that your donation doesn't mean we will be able to offer you prioritized support for your tech issues. Contact us if you'd like to negotiate a support contract!

postmarketOS is governed by a Board of Directors, and any purchases or expenses must be approved by them. The current board and previous members are listed on our homepage.

Thank you for your interest and support!
