Recently I've been playing Borderlands and Borderlands 2 like there's no tomorrow. Well, not really, only at night, but I've played a lot with my husband and some friends. I'm having a great time with the game and its not-PC humour. I don't know why I'm so drawn to the game; whether it's the world it's set, the humour or playing with friends. Probably a mix of those. I have to check if there's a fandom for it, I think I want some fanart (mainly of Lilith).

Because of the gaming, I'm reading less that I use to, so I have several fics that have been updated, books I bought and some other things I want to read waiting on the shelf while I finish "Bend around the Wind" a Tony/Loki fic, though I haven't gotten to the Loki/Tony part yet and I've read about 100.000 words of it. I think that the plot it's what has me hooked with this fic, because it's not one of the pairings I usually go for and I've completely forgotten about the SPAG issues that show here and there.

I haven't seen most of the episodes of this series, but I had to watch the finale... So, I'm bringing you some notes about it.

- I liked the episode overall but I kepst wondering why they couldn't have done this in Series 3???? And have Arthur and Merlin as King and advisor for the next 2 series? Why? Why? Why?
- I liked the reveal, even if it was only one episode, it was kind of good. I would have liked it longer and with more development but I liked it.
- Where is the Golden Age? Why is Arthur so important as king?
- Arthur and Merlin: Their love story. That should've been the title of the last episode, there was a moment in the end I seriously started to think they were going to kiss. I knew they wouldn't but they were so close, the scene was so emotional and the shot was so near... Gah, that is the stuff fics are made of.
- Am I the only one thinking that Gwen is going to re-marry to Leon?
- Gwaine finally had something to do and I liked it.
- How did Gwen discover that Merlin was the sorcerer, she's got magic too?
- I didn't quite like the last two scenes (the "long live the queen" and the present time one). I think they were probably necesary but, to me, the story ends with Arthur death. I think it was clear that Gwen was going to be queen and Merlin wander forever alone (though I don't know why as old Merlin).

I'll probably remember more stuff tomorrow or change my mind, but that's it for now.

I mainly want to see them fighting together).
- I loved Loki on the Thor movie and I thought here he looked a bit weaker. I think he could have tried to deceive his brother and the Avengers team (not only making them fight each other). I realise I like the actor too much and might be biased :P
- I loved the jokes and some of them are priceless. Is she the one who wants to make Gwen her queen (head!canon)
That was creepy!
Wait, if Morgana is destined to bring back the old ways... and Merlin too. Do they do it together?
Whoa, Lancelot looks HOT coming out of the water
Hahaha, don't strangle him! :D Nice scene
Did I say Lancelot looks hot?
Well played! (the magic secret giving Lancelot away)
Even though she's enchanted, I think they're using Gwen much better (and Angel is doing a very good job with it)
Bradley is doing a good job, too!
G/L is hot hot hot
Someone tell Arthur the truth! (yes, it doesn't explain Gwen's actions, but still)
Great Scene, absolutely great (but please, Gwen does want to be his queen?
The Hour, Doctor Who, Merlin

So let's see what I've been watching lately... (spoilers ahead)
The Hour
I decided to watch this show because I saw it recommended in a magazine (I don't exactly know how they recced it since it hasn't aired in Spain). Anyway, they said the main character was Ben Whishaw (whom I like since I saw his as Sebastian in "Return to Brightshead") and I know kabal42 is an admirer.

This seems to be a love it/hate it show from what I've seen at imdb. I loved it from the beginning. I like how the characters are pictured: they are not perfect but they are interesting, even the supporting ones, like Lix (see icon). I think this is a mix of the script, the actors (all of them are fantastic) and the directors, that allow the characters to pause and think if they need it.

Ben Whishaw is lovely and I want him in the same movie/TV series as Benedict Cumberbatch and Colin Morgan. They can play brothers, preferably in some kind of period costume...

I digress. I think I loved the characters more than the spy-plot (not that it wasn't interesting, but it wasn't as interesting as the show development or the relationships between the characters). In short: loved it. Happy to find a second series has been scheduled (and some fic...).

Doctor Who
I haven't been watching DW closely this year, but I have to say I liked the River Song storyline (she's a character I like) and I absolutely loved "The girl who waited". The finale was bizarre and interesting all at one, with the mix of times and eras. I liked that Amy kills and is sorry for it (even though it really didn't happen in her timeline). And of course, The Question... that was absolutely perfect!

Merlin
I'm not really sure what I think about the first episode because it has a lot of baggage from Series 3 which I disliked, so I can't really get behind letskilleverybody!Morgana and maybe I'll enjoy more other plots... In short:
The good: Arthur looks pretty when he cries, Gwen with long hair looks beautiful, Lancelot looks stunning, Morgana looks good too.
The so-so: It's still scorching summer in Camelot and Arthur still sleeps shirtless, we have knights to distract ourselves (even if they don't look very professional).
The bad: the ep felt rushed and having jumped a year in time didn't help either, Merlin looked in the verge of tears almost the whole time (and I like to see him cry), I hope we are not supposed to feel sorry for Uther, the changes of the Isle of the Blessed (I liked it simple and would love some continuity).

I finished reading "A Dance with Dragons" a couple of days ago. It was a weird experience because, even though I enjoyed it while I was reading it, when I finally closed the book, I realised I hadn't liked it as much as I had hoped and looking back I felt as if many chapters were just fillers (I like Dorne, but most of the chapters with Dornish people felt like a filler). The book felt to me like just a set up for the next, where the things that happen there could have been solved faster because when the book starts picking a pace is at the end. I think this is because the book is a complement of sorts of the fourth book and sometimes looks like grrm is trying to "fill in the blanks" about things that where mentioned in the previous book.

Also, I felt there were some repetitions in the book like talking about salt and pepper in hair and beards or metioning how the gods don't listen. I think that added a bit to the filler feeling I got.

Now some stuff:
- No, I don't believe Jon is dead (Et tu Brutus?)
- I'd have liked to know more about Bran, Jojen, Meerea and Hodor.
- If Daenerys was pregnant, who was the father? (unless the timeline in my head is pretty messed up she wasn't having sex with anybody three months before the "alleged" miscarriage)
- Did Quentyn story had any kind of purpose except making the reader feel sorry about his (unsurprising) death?
- Bonus points about the real-skin-masks like the one Arya wears.
- Reek was properly creepy.

What were your reactions/thoughts?

Don't feel bad if you need to drop out at some point, personally I'll keep listing entries after the deadline and besides I want this to be a very low-pressure project for everyone involved!

I will keep a themed list of topics in this post to keep things organised. The goal is to have a neatly grouped link list at the end of it. Depending on the scope I'd say it's legit for several people to tackle the same subject if they want to, although maybe they'd want to contact each other in that case? Which is where the list comes in handy also. I've already added my own claims.

I'll try to monitor comments but of course I cannot be around constantly. I think even difficult or uncomfortable topics ought to be eligible as long as people treat them with the necessary sensitivity and respect. If you see any disphittery going on, please alert me to it.

All future entries concerning this project will get tagged with FONSFAQ.

Feel free to boost it far and wide, especially because I'll need help answering the questions, and I don't have a lot of Spanish people in my Circle ;)

Prompt List
Female artists (recs)
LGTB acceptance in Spain
Spanish Webcomics (recs)
Atheism in Spain
Racism in Spain

Fair Game by Josh Lanyon. Summary: A crippling knee injury forced Elliot Mills to trade in his FBI badge for dusty chalkboards and bored college students. Now a history professor at Puget Sound university, the former agent has put his old life behind him—but it seems his old life isn't finished with him. A young man has gone missing from campus—and as a favor to a family friend, Elliot agrees to do a little sniffing around. His investigations bring him face-to-face with his former lover, Tucker Lance, the special agent handling the case.

I liked that the book had more plot than romance (and it did have romance but it wasn't the main focus). It reads as a mystery novel and I loved the game (I've always have) of "who's the most likely suspect to be the killer?". I had a great time with this one and I plan to search for more mystery novels by the same author (I've read a couple of other books by him but, even if they're good, this is the best).

I finally finished Robin Hobb's third trilogy in the realm of the Elderlings and I've loved the books.

Farseer trilogy: I expected intrigue and got fantasy instead. I'm not complaining because even if things didn't go the way I expected them to, I got a fantastic story of friendship, duty and a bit of love.
Liveship Traders trilogy: I loved loved loved the Vestrit women (and Etta&Serilla). I love that they feel real and I can recognise in them bits of women I've met or I've been. Sometimes they exasperated me, sometimes I cheered for them but they always felt real.
Tawny Man trilogy: Even if this trilogy didn't felt the best of the three, it was the one that made me cry, so that surely counts for something.

I can't quite decide what I think of the ending (even if it makes sense what happens, or maybe because of it?). I love that we never learn what the Fool's gender is (or even if it is a word that can be applied to him/her).

The relationship between the Fool and Fizt makes me want to hit Fitz hard on the head: not only he's blind to the Fool's feelings for most of the books, but when he (finally) learns of them he's the kind of homophobe who looks suspiciously like he's in denial. I can't quite understand Fitz's logic about his relationship with the Fool because it looks like he knows the Fool complements him perfectly but denies himself the possibility.

Also, I was very sad at Burrich's death since it's one of the characters I've loved no matter what his flaws were (unlike Chade whom I haven't trusted most of the time), also I loved his relationship with Molly (I was shipping them before they got together!). Besides that, his death seems only too convenient so that Fitz can go back with her (despite their previous relationship looking just like a teenage infatuation), at least they need some time to go back to where they left it (sort of, I'd have liked a bit more of Molly crying over her death husband). Also, I can't really understand why Fitz is so in love with her (yes, I know he's just recovered his feelings) when he knows she wouldn't have "shared" him with Nighteyes or the Fool (when both of them were very important to him). I don't know, it seems like his relationship with her is (mostly) physical, while his relationships with other characters are more profound.

In other news it seems I've finally got rid of the pharyngitis.

(with beard)
- Lancelottttttttttt
- Percival is tall
- Lancelot and Gwen looking at each other :D
- Oh, Lancelot, if Gwen doesn't want you, I'll take you home
- Gwaine, that's so you :D
- If you need an old man :D
- Hahaha, I don't really fancy it :D
- Good scene
- Merlin smile at Sir Gwaine
- Sir Elyan!!!
- I know you too well (yes and you're not the only knight)
- Oh, Lancelot, so true
- Lancelot not only wants Arthur's girl but also his sword
- I'm starting to fear for Lancelot's life *bites nails*
- Damn! I knew it
- Morgause!
- I knew she was going to die
- Morgana is a manticore
- Gwaine :D
- They are talking! and joking!
- Is that jealous!Merlin?
- When will Arthur wield it?
- Beautiful sword in the stone scene.

More stuff:
I thought the episode was ok, not epic as the Geeksyndicate said, but not as terrible as some we've witnessed this season. I liked the Round Table scene and the Excalibur one, but I still dislike the lack of consistency of Morgana's character. We didn't get a lot of Gwaine/Merlin (though I'm hoping Gwaine has noticed Merlin's magic) but we had some Lancelot/Merlin pillowtalk which was nice, and Arthur didn't try to stab Merlin and even called him wise in a surprised way (which reminded me to The Labyrinth of Gedref, but the setting of the scene nowhere near as good).

They made me fear that they were going to kill Lancelot or Gwaine (that would've been a surprise) but I'm glad they didn't.

Cendred's and Morgause's deaths had been anti-climatic. I expected Merlin to fight Morgause with magic because that could have been spectacular.

And now a bit of a rant:
I have to admit that Julian's interview has confirmed that the show-runners are a bunch of male chauvinist pigs that think that Gwen can't wield a sword because it's not era-appropriate (while tomatoes and talking dragons are). Of course, the evil women can wield a sword and be powerful and don't need need a man by their side (unless is for pleasure or to use him, like Morgause). Do we know if someone has been changed in the show that had women fighting for their right to fight in 1x10? Because that's clearly unbelievable now according to Julian (or at least they wouldn't be allowed to be good women, they'd have to be enemies of Camelot or something).

Also, and as I stated last week, I think the slash references are completely intentional so Julian's references to "that lot" (now reworded in the article) sound more than a bit like hypocrisy. Of course, I might be wrong about them doing it knowingly, but if the don't, I have more background about watching movies/tv and reading subtext than they do, and they are the ones that make a TV show for a living.

3x11 liveblog:
- Did he got back the sword? I haven't noticed.
- There's tons of non-con fic that can come from that scene: whip, check; tongue, check; thankful!Merlin, check...
- Morgana is flirting with Uther (yes, I know he's her father) and Uther is too proud
- Hahaha, Merlin's worried, as usual :D
- Uther is competing! This gets interesting
- Hai, Indiana Jones guy
- Gaius: "I can't believe it!"
- Merlin is suspicious
- Well, Merlin you use magic in front of a lot of people too, don't feel bad
- I love that they transform Arthur's room into anything :P
- Uther: This is sorcery! Gaius: Sire, maybe... Uther: Nope, I'm Giles, I know everything about sorcery
- Gaius is going to help a sorcerer? *is surprised*
- Wasn't there a fic where Merlin competes in an open tournament using magic?
- Homever made the matches should have placed the king and prince to fight in the final!
- So what if Uther dies?
- I love Gilli, he reminds me a bit of Will. He told so many truths.
- The dragon, why does Merlin keep summoning him? WHY?
- I'm so glad Gilli didn't die!

No bad guys in this episode, so no tournament here.

and

3x12 stuff:
I really don't know what to think of this episode, I think I'll rewatch it to make up my mind. On the one hand I enjoyed it overall, on the other hand I had several issues with it.

Sir Leon is alive!! <-- That's really good :D (of course, someone else would have died if he'd beeen saved by magic, unless it was Arthur or Morgana)

I'm going to miss Cendred and his hot leather attire :(

I liked that we probably saw the best Merlin/Arthur interaction of the whole series 3, which I liked, but then I surprised myself dismissing the Arthur/Merlin in favour of Merlin/Gwaine, and I have to say that was weird. I haven't been reading fanfic lately (I'm with the Liveships) so I don't know where that came from. The canon, I guess. At some point of the episode I was hoping Gwaine would learn about Merlin's magic instead of Arthur (I even thought he already knew at the go-to-get-firewood scene), which is kind of sad :(

Also, Arthur threatening the kid didn't help matters (yes, maybe it is my maternal side talking, but I didn't want that guy to be king). I was thinking, first he kills a whole village full of druids (including women and children) and now he roughens up the kid (yes, I know he wasn't hurt but I'm not surprised the druids would believe him capable of anything).

The episode had several references to several Lancelot's episodes (including the same burning village! the entry to the rats cave!) to Indiana Jones (maybe it was just me?), to LotR and to 3x01 and 3x02 (and even some stuff reminded me of fics :P). I don't know how I feel about that.

I loved the continuity about Nimueh's cup (except they forgot the part about the balance?)

It's a pity the slave traders were wasted like that! So much fic-potential! Instead they just were the Cendred's Kingdom UFC. :(

What's going to be called Cendred's Kingdom now? Morgause's Queen-dom? (yes, bad joke)

The Morgana/Gwen scene was a bit weird because, why was Morgana suddenly worried about Gwen's well-being? and more important, why did she reveal herself as the traitor before her army had conquered the city?

And talking about Morgana: YES! (I guess there would be no reveal, but this is the thing the producers said couldn't be undone).

What I also noticed was that the writers place Merlin in the (traditional) role of "the girl": Gwaine and Arthur fighting over him, being the "powerless" one on the fight, being the one who can't keep a secret... I saw more but I have to rewatch the episode. I think they want to place Merlin as "the girl" to make us see the slash there (meaning Arthur and Gwaine could have a relationship with him). For a long time I suspected it wasn't completely intentional, but this episode has vanished all my doubts and the means they use are not even imaginative.

In the good vs bad tournament, the bad guys win thanks to Morgana/Morgause and Dom!Morgause with Cendred, not even Gawine managed to beat that. So 6-4 lead the good guys (that have already won, by the way)

- Merlin you're such a fanboy...
- Hai, prophetic dreams, Morgana still has them! (How long has it been???? Long before Morgause gave her the bracelet for sure)
- I still don't believe Morgana would hurt Gwen and Arthur...
- Arthur looks handsome today and he's speaking to Morgana! Almost like the old times
- C'mon Merlin tell Gwen how good Arthur is in bed and how happy you'd be if she join the both of you :P
- Hahah, Merlin is Robot's Fender :D
- I like that Gwen kissed him first and the hand on his hip. They both look great and the actors are doing their best with the silly dialogue :P
- A teenager's worst nightmare (well, one of them)
- Uther's behaving as if Gwen were pregnant
- Stop teasing us about the reveal, writers (at least they're talking and Arthur's not throwing stuff)
- Merlin, send Gwen with Hunith (and then move all of you to Ealdor!)
- Go Gwen, speak your mind!
- Sorry, I couldn't help but laugh at that kiss. Bad timing.
- Still not king believing Morgana would do that.
- The exact word is smirking not smiling, but you're right, Gwen
- I LOVE Merlin's faces :D
- Hahaha, old!Merlin doing fake!Magic
- Hahaha, Merlin don't tell him he's being thick, yes, lure him with your "plan"
- Go Merlin, speak your mind!!!
- Gaius that was a rubbish excuse
- How often does Uther execute true sorcerers? Merlin's hands are not even tied!
- Not sure if I believe Arthur would give up the throne for Gwen...

Colin made a great job with old!Merlin and showed again he's got a great comic timing. I also loved his chemistry with Gwen, and his faces. Can we watch Island now?

Things I tried not to think about this episode: Gaius' excuse about the tavern, the lack of security at the execution, the teasing with the reveal (yes, we know we're not getting it), Morgana's character, or if Arthur would give up his duties for love (which he might after the gradual estrangement from Uther). Since I managed not to think, I had fun with the episode (mainly with old!Merlin).

Things I tried not to think about the deleted scenes: Arthur throwing more stuff at Merlin and Merlin lying to Arthur while saying "you know I'd never lie to you", and Merlin having to plead Arthur to help him. But the Harry Potter scene was priceless as was the Merlin/Morgana one.

In the good vs bad tournament... we have a winner for the good guys (we had the bad girls around but very little) and Gwen as queen looked stunning. The good guys lead 6-3 and are about to win.

For some days now I've been reading non-stop the Farseer Trilogy* and even though the author seems to be very anti-fanfic, I have to rec the Trilogy. A short summary from Library Journal: "As a royal bastard in the household of King Shrewd, a boy called "Fitz" spends his early years in the king's stables. When the magic in his blood marks him for destiny, he begins receiving secret instruction, by order of the king, in the art of assassination, a calling that places him in the midst of a nest of intrigue and arcane maneuverings."

I have to say that I thought the books would develop in a way and they've moved into the Fantasy realm completely, and I'm loving it. I hope I'll finish the third book today or tomorrow and I expect there will be some crying involved...

Also, for those who have read the books: I LOVE the Fool.

___
