Welcome

The McMaster University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a large multi-site department with over 100 full-time, part-time clinical and adjunct faculty located at two fully-affiliated teaching hospitals, community teaching hospitals and other distributed education sites. In addition to the McMaster University training sites, we have two satellite medical schools: one in Kitchener-Waterloo affiliated with the Grand River Regional Hospital and a second in St. Catharines, affiliated with the Niagara Health System. We are involved in teaching over 200 undergraduate medical students each year during their clinical clerkship, 40 residents in obstetrics and gynecology and many clinical and research fellows in a number of different sub-specialty areas.

Our department is a small but mighty force here at McMaster University. Our department is home to nearly 150 full-time, part-time, and adjunct faculty members – many of which are top researchers, clinicians, and educators in the field. Within our department, we have a clear vision: The McMaster Model of Care will reset global expectations for gynecology, pregnancy, and prenatal care. Our team works to expand our impact through excellence in clinical care, groundbreaking research, and global health leadership. The work of our faculty is helping to shape the future of obstetrics and gynecology along with the goal to improve the health and lives of women and families not only within our community, but around the world.

We pride ourselves in this department on how we value our time with learners – we are involved in teaching over 200 undergraduate medical students each year. McMaster University has always been innovative in all aspects of medical and inter-professional education and this is no less true for our undergraduate and postgraduate training. We utilize our renowned small group problem based learning and state of the art simulation techniques to impart the knowledge, skills and competencies required for future providers of care to women and their families. In addition to our fully accredited residency training program, our department offers:

  • Three Royal College accredited subspecialty programs in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) , Gynecologic Oncology, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM)
