So I just finished reading The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Holy moly is that a good book! Wanted to read it after seeing the movie, because I loved the movie. But the book is a lot different, and I would say better. It portrays a lot of the characters in a different light and more in-depth. I'm actually thinking about making a fanmix for this, how crazy is that?! But does this song not just scream Jace?

Just announced: Nathan Fillion will be at Calgary Expo this year. Gah!!!! I went with jenniferjensen last year and it was fun, though super crowded. Got my picture taken with Jasika Nicole and John Noble, and Katee Sackhoff. But that's nothing in comparison to NATHAN!

This would be a no brainer, with the exception that I have a big field program I'm supposed to be going on in April, and it could very well run into that weekend. Ugh. :( Can't make any plans until work things are more finalized. FML. Nothing would make me happier than being able to go, but I just don't know it'll be possible. Grr. Stupid job ruining my fangirl moments.

Castle 515 & 516

Can we just take a moment to squee about the last two Castle episodes?

I really did love this two parter.
→ Alexis realizing she was in Paris was like "OMG!"
→ Lainie talking to Castle at the scene with the van. I think she said "I'm right there with you baby" and my heart was like *wibbles*
→ Meeting Castle's dad! This was the best part because I was watching with my mom. I whispered to my sister that I'd seen a spoiler saying Castle was to meet his dad in this episode. When they said Alexis was captured because of who she was, my mom was like "what does that mean?!" So I said "Mom, who is she related to." "Castle" "No, mom, other than Castle..." Then much after the fact my mom jumps about 6 inches in her chair and says "Do we meet his father?!?!" God it was funny.
→ Castle disappearing over to France. Also funny because as he did this my dad made a Liam Neeson comment, which was maybe 10 seconds later followed by Ryan saying the same thing.
→ The trick with the bomb in the radio. I'm not going to lie. I was fooled by that, though maybe I should have caught on.

And lastly, in 515 when Castle said "I appealed to his humanity". Is that not a Firefly line? Because I swear I've heard Nathan say that one before, and he was very Mal-like as he said it. Am I making this up?

If you're from the UK and you believe in freedom of speech and an uncensored interenet, you really need to sign this petition. There are others floating about, but that particular one is the best way to ensure that your voice gets heard. It's hosted on the directgov website and addresses parliament directly. If it gets more than 100,000 signatures, it becomes eligible for discussion in the House of Commons.

Everyone's been getting so worked up over SOPA -- and rightly so -- that ACTA seems to have slipped under the radar. This is hugely problematic, because ACTA is a similar bill, but it has the potential to be far more damaging than SOPA ever could be.

Some people seem to have this misconception that ACTA is the 'European SOPA', but that simply isn't true. It's a global treaty, and it's already been signed by eight countries, including the US, Japan, New Zealand and Singapore. Europe votes on Thursday. If they vote 'no', the bill will have to be taken back to the drawing board and reformulated, which should buy us some time at the very least.

If you think this doesn't affect you, you're wrong. If ACTA passes, it could well signal the end of the internet as we know it, and that isn't an exaggeration. It's not just about watching movies and television online. If ACTA passes, sites like YouTube, Livejournal, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook and even Google and Wikipedia could become impossible to maintain. ACTA would allow ISPs to monitor your net activity and cut off internet access for your entire household if one person is suspected of breaching copyright. Think Big Brother is Watching. I don't think I need to emphasise just how damaging it can be to be without internet access in this day and age, when we rely so heavily on technology.

It's not only bloggers and fandom that would be affected, either. Small businesses, independent film-makers and unsigned musicians who have previously found their niche online would also suffer hugely, and would be at risk of being bullied into submission by Hollywood and multinational corporations under accusations of copyright infringement. All those artists who found fame by uploading covers of songs to YouTube would never have had the opportunity to do so under ACTA, as those cover versions would be prohibited.

I know the internet has its problems, but to my mind it's the single greatest invention to come out of modern times, and it would be an absolute travesty if we were to lose that now. From a personal point of view, I can't even put into words how important this is to me. I've met some of my closest friends through the internet and online fandom, people whom I would likely never have met without it, and it's given me this amazing social support system. I don't want that to end here, and I want to preserve it for future generations so that they can have the same experience and opportunities I've been given through my online interactions.

I know that opinions on the seriousness of copyright infringement and online piracy vary wildly, but that isn't really the point. Internet giants such as Google are opposed to this bill, and it's pretty safe to say that they're not in favour of copyright infringment, as anyone who's ever had a fanvid taken down from YouTube will be painfully aware. Whatever your stance on copyright, this isn't the way to go about dealing with it. This is dangerous legislation that impeaches on some of our most basic human rights, such as the right to privacy and freedom of speech.

So if you're from the UK, please, please sign the petition. If you hail from elsewhere in the world, there may well be similar movements in your own country, but I think the most effective thing anybody can do right now is to keep talking about this. Talk about it on Livejournal, on Twitter, on Tumblr, on Facebook, and anywhere else you can think of. Make sure this issue is never far from people's minds. The internet is an amazingly powerful tool: let's utilise it while we still have the chance.

So I think you should all check out ZZ Ward. I discovered her from a magazine's list of artists to watch for in 2012, and I'm in love. She's got such a strong voice, amazing lyrics, catchy beats, and quite a bit of sass. I love it.

Also, what's even better is that you can download her mixtape Eleven Roses for free on her website. I haven't been this excited about an artist since The Civil Wars, and we know how much I love The Civil Wars. :)

This is probably my favourite from the mixtape.

What is ACTA? ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Castle Season 4 Premiere

If this is the level of angst to be maintained for the rest of the season I’m not sure I can survive it. Holy hell, my heart hurts. She remembers it all?! SERIOUSLY?!?!?! Guh. But the scene on the swings ♥ ♥ ♥ Kate was totally saying it to Rick—telling him that she needs to break down that wall before she can be with him. And him saying they’d work on the wall together? Oh my, my fangirl heart.

I’m a little bit mad at Kate for not just going for it now that she knows for sure how he feels. But I suppose given the context it does make sense. And of course it wouldn’t provide nearly enough juicy heart-wrenching drama for the rest of the season if she just woke up post-surgery and was like ‘OMG, Castle loves me, my life is awesome!’ Speaking of Kate, she was just breaking my heart. She’s so torn up, and a mess and I just want to hug her. Or better yet, I want Castle to hug her.

And even though I get that she’s hurting and confused and has emotional turmoil up the wazoo, but I can’t believe she left him waiting so long. 3 months?! He left her waiting for a few weeks after the Hamptons and she was devastated. She was on the receiving end and should know how it feels. :(

All the tension and drama in the opening scene though—ugh, perfect! The fight that almost broke out in the hospital, with Alexis lunging for Josh? Just, yes. Kate has so many people who love her and were there for her immediately. I wonder if she fully realizes that…

The only thing that bothered me with the first scene was the fact Lanie was wearing gloves. Yes, I realize that when doing CPR on someone you’re supposed to, but think about it… Where did she get them? Did she just have some on her at the funeral? I’m sure she’s a smart practical woman, but does she really carry them in her purse? She sees her best friend taken down by a sniper, and presumably once it’s all clear she runs up and checks on Kate right away because she has an MD. I don’t think she had the time to think about gloves. And even if she did, I doubt she had them. And I can’t see Lanie waiting to do CPR until the ambulance arrived. I don’t know, just a little tiny detail that bothered me.

Also, is it just me, or did Alexis’ face look rounder than usual? Not in a bad way at all, just more round. And as always I just love Alexis’ scenes with Castle. She just loves him so damn much. ♥

When Rick doesn’t return first thing in the fall it hits Kate harder than she ever would have imagined. The summer without him was bad enough, but when he doesn’t show after he promised—it does something to her.

No matter what occurred, no matter what did or didn’t happen between them, they were always supposed to end up back in each other’s life. Sometimes she thought they were meant to just be friends, sometimes she hoped they were meant for more. Either way they were supposed to be together. It was the unspoken rule that lay between them.

Then suddenly he’s back—back in town, at the precinct, working with her—back in her life. It’s scary how easy it is for them to slip back into old habits. Rick has become such an integral part of Kate’s very existence that she feels relief at the shift. It’s like when the last puzzle piece slips so easily into place to complete the picture—a realization that puts butterflies in her stomach and terror in her heart.

Rick has always mulled over the possibility of being with Kate. It hadn’t started out as a serious consideration, more of a ‘what if,' however, the more time he spends with her the more that changes. Since his return from the Hamptons he keeps seeing signs that they are meant to be something more. She might not believe in fate, but he does. If he could muster the courage to give this thing between them a chance, he wonders if she would too.

Kate begins to notice that, more often than not, after a case wraps they’ll do something to celebrate. Sometimes it’s just grabbing a burger, other times it’s Rick dragging her across town to show her the perfect view of the New York skyline from the roof of an abandoned industrial building. At these times it’s just the two of them, entirely alone. It feels more intimate than it ought to, and yet she relishes those moments more than she would ever care to admit.

She’s never been one of those women to completely lose her mind over a man. She’s too independent and self-sufficient for that. Kate doesn’t so much fall in love, as enter into a relationship she thinks could give her what she wants. With her it’s more of a logical approach than an emotional one. That’s not to say she doesn’t have feelings when it comes to her relationships, they just tend to be secondary. Except with Rick—with him she feels herself on the verge of falling every single day.

Rick goes through a period where he feels too restless for his own skin. It’s after things with Gina have ended, but that’s not the cause. Yes, he is lonely, but he doesn't miss his ex. He knows there is only one woman he wants to fill that empty place in his heart. Subconsciously he’s known for a long time that it would come down to this, down to her.

007. Too Afraid To Love You – The Black Keys

Kate can feel the atmosphere between them shift. There’s a distinct edge of seriousness that wasn’t there before. She tries to ignore it, but with every day it becomes clearer that it’s not just a figment of her imagination. Things between them intensify—looks are more meaningful, the slightest of touches become more electrifying, and the subtext in their conversations reaches a whole new level. She would be elated if it wasn’t for the fear that knotted her gut. She begins to think she might be too afraid for this to go any further.

He curses himself for losing his temper, but he curses her more. Rick can't even begin to imagine the pain she is experiencing, dealing with the aftermath of her mother’s death so many years later. But can’t she see that if she dies, if Lockwood gets to her, it’ll destroy the lives of all those who love her—his more than anyone's.

Kate’s the one to bring it up, the unspoken between them, but then she backs away unwilling to finish what she started. He isn’t scared though. It’s time this was said, time for the bullshit to end. Things happen, signs appear and yet they never talk about them. They ignore, and ignore until it’s like it never happened in the first place. He’s done ignoring it. He loves this woman and he isn’t going to let her go.

Then she tells him that they are over, her voice filled with so much certainty. Rick wonders what the hell it will take for her to see that she’s making the biggest mistake of her life.

It’s the most emotional case they’ve ever worked, but eventually the pain and stress begin to subside. As it does, Rick regrets their fight more and more. He hadn’t lied—he’d meant every word of what he told her—but that wasn’t the way it should have been said. There was a right way to approach these types of conversations and he’d chosen the path farthest from it.

He loves her—he knows that with certainty, but he will wait to tell her. It will take time for the aftermath of the case to recede and for things to return to a semi-normal state. But when it does, and when he thinks she’s ready to hear it, he will tell her that he loves her. Whether that time is a day from now, or a year, Rick will wait. He’s not going anywhere.

The hours since the shooting have been a blur. He hasn’t left her side except when physically forced to by the orderlies at the hospital. The second Kate is wheeled out of the O.R., Rick is there, holding onto her hand for dear life. He tries desperately not to think of how pale and fragile she looks laying amongst the stark white sheets of the hospital bed. She’s Katherine Beckett, the strongest woman he knows, and she’s going to be alright…she has to be.

He sits vigil beside her bedside for two straight days and nights. Rick is determined that he will bring her out of this through his own force of will if nothing else. He refuses to lose her—it isn’t an option.

“Come on Kate, come back to me.” He whispers to her over and over. “I love you.”
