Haylie stands at 5'7", with a curvy, muscled gymnast's body. And despite her appearances, she currently weighs approximately 200 pounds due to a thicker skeletal structure and muscles. Haylie has long, black hair and piercing blue eyes - which change color to red during a power surge, or white when she shifts into Infrared Vision. Haylie's taste in clothing runs along fitted and casual -- heavily favoring jeans and crisp, clean t-shirts and tank tops - although if Warren had his way she'd be wearing nothing but designer dresses.

PERSONALITY

At one point in her life, Haylie was a typical high school girl. Well-adjusted, upbeat and kind, always smiling. Over the years, dealing with the nature of her mutation dampened Haylie's optimistic nature slightly, but never changed her kind, easygoing spirit. The price of her mutation, however, was that she couldn't always express the fullest extent of her emotions at any given time. Over time, though, she developed her own unique way of expressing herself; with a unique set of facial expressions, sarcasm, and minute gestures that those around her could understand while still allowing her the ability to feel.

In spite of the attack on the school and the death of some of her friends, Haylie remains the same kind, generous, yet stubborn and determined person she's always been in spite of the grief that she struggles to deal with.

HISTORY

Born on Staten Island, Haylie was raised by parents Richard and Elisa as an only child until the arrival of sister Katelyn at the age of four.

Haylie took pride in being an older sister and quickly bonded with Katelyn -- especially once Elisa returned to work. With her mother working as a dedicated Major Case detective and her father a well-known trauma surgeon, Haylie didn't see much of her parents growing up but when she did? They doted on her and always made sure she and Katelyn knew how much they're loved.

At age seven, Haylie's nanny encouraged her to take up gymnastics and Haylie fell in love with it. She went on to compete nationally several times while still focusing on her school work. Through high school, she seemed to shine. She was well-liked, talented, smart, and kind. She was inseparable from best friend Jill over several years, although that changed when Haylie's mutation surfaced. During their post-graduation celebration, the girls were partying upstate at a classmate's cabin and with many of the attendees drunk, a food fight began. Jill and Haylie were trying to dodge getting hit with a roasted chicken and when Haylie put her hands out, an invisible wave of power surged from her hands and caused the chicken to explode loudly. The sight of it confused the girls, scaring Jill slightly and when Haylie returned home, her parents noticed that her temperature was sitting at 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Her father found nothing physically wrong with her and kept her home for a week under constant supervision until one day a man named Charles Xavier arrived at their doorstep offering an explanation for the sudden changes in Haylie's body and the chance to learn to control her new found gifts.

On her 18th birthday, Haylie arrived at the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters to begin her education as a mutant, and pursue her own desire to get a degree in Psychology. Under the tutelage and careful watch of Xavier, Haylie received the training she needed in order to control her powers – including receiving a set of mental/psychic shields to assist her in times that her control might possibly slip – as well as earning herself an extended family in the rest of her fellow X-Men: Beast, Angel, Iceman, Marvel Girl, Storm, Nightcrawler, Forge, Banshee, Gambit, Shadowcat, Colossus, Wolverine, and Emma Frost.

Over the years, Haylie earned her degree in Psychology and even began teaching well into her late twenties, helping the younger students like Cannonball, Jubilee, Magma, and Wolfsbane train to become future X-Men. Haylie eventually began a short-lived fling with Colossus that ended in a mutual agreement when they both discovered that they were better off just being friends. Colossus ended up starting a relationship with Shadowcat, while Haylie focused on her teaching and a budding friendship with Angel.

It wasn't until after Angel lost his wings that the two began their relationship, with Haylie helping Warren through his loss and acting as a sort of counselor during his period of self-discovery. The two remained close and quickly fell in love after Angel met with Apocalypse once more, refusing to kill him and sink to that level. The two went public with their relationship only hours before the school came under attack by the Mutant Rights Enforcers, trying to stage it as a human uprising in order to further their agenda and begin a war.

The X-Men fought bravely to save their home, the children, and Professor Xavier, but ultimately lost the battle in the end. With Xavier severely wounded and in a coma, along with several mutants dead, Haylie took the survivors and fled north to a secret compound Warren had helped her construct where they would be safe in the event that the Institute fell to the ground. Archangel and Storm became the new headmasters of the Xavier Institute in the wake of Xavier's condition, all the while trying to figure out who was behind the attack since they didn't believe a human uprising would've been able to take them down. Sure that it was the MRE, Haylie left Warren and the others in the middle of the night to track down Emma Frost and bring her back, because there was no way she'd believe her friend would be part of the group that attacked the Institute.

MUTATION

SONIC EXPULSION: By combining energy and air molecules, Haylie can create loud sonic booms with the snap of her fingers and large shockwaves that can extend to a 30-foot radius with enough destructive force to shred apart a human body and demolish a house.

KINETIC MANIPULATION: Channeling body heat into the ground or an object, Haylie can create bombs and/or explosions ranging from the force of a firecracker to that of an atomic bomb out to a 100-foot radius.

INFRARED VISION: Due to the beginnings of her evolution, Haylie developed a unique ability to track heat signals. This ability is reminiscent of a python or pit viper's ability to track movement and "see" heat due to infrared-receptors
in the grooves between the eyes and nostrils or labial pits on the upper lip. Instead of receptors or labial pits, Haylie's irises turn a complete shade of white and the change in neurochemistry involved gives her the ability to see and sense heat.

PSIONIC IMPERVIOUSNESS: Due to the immense amount of control required by Haylie's powers, she has several mental walls set up deep within her subconscious in order to protect everyone from herself and regulate her body functions. As a result, Haylie is unaffected by most low & mid-level psychic abilities.

LIMITATIONS: The force of her sonicbooms significantly decreases after 20 feet out, can be draining if used excessively, and Haylie is currently unable to change directionality of her attack or utilize this power as a defensive measure. Kinetic manipulation is capable of draining her energy enough to lower her core body temperature to 102 degrees - which renders her unable to use this ability. Once an object is "charged", she cannot draw the energy back into her body or stop the explosion. If she uses too much energy too quickly, she runs the risk of going into hypoglycemic shock and having a seizure. Without discharging energy every three days, she can experience build-up which results in frequent "tingling" sensations, restlessness, and if left unchecked -- can drive up her body temperature to a fatal level and cause anything she touches to disintegrate entirely. While she has many mental barriers to protect her from psychics, Haylie is still vulnerable to telepathic manipulation by mutants like Charles Xavier and possibly Emma Frost. Her infrared vision extends as far as she can normally see, but won't work through thick steel walls or buildings, makes her more susceptible to running into things and significantly reduces her accuracy if she attacks.
