▾ Atem arrived on the S.S. Thor on September 8th, 2010.
▾ He was assigned to room 3-17 and has not moved since.
▾In August 2011 he upgraded to an apartment; number 6-11 A. His bedroom remains the same as his old room.
▾ He has achieved CEO Wage status.
▾ The first canonmate he came across was a very early version of Jonouchi. His friend left only a few weeks later.
▾ Yuugi, Kaiba, Mokuba, and Otogi were all seen to be safe and sound on the S.S. Sif, a sister ship of Thor. This encounter was made on April 25th, 2011.
▾ Other inhabitants of the future world were found on Sif as well; Astral and Marufuji Shou.
▾ The Duel Disk he owns was custom, handmade by Kaiba. The one he purchased on Thor was given to Marisa.

▼ During his stay on Thor he has collected many things which reside either on his person or in his room. As usual his Duel Disk and deck box are almost always present on his person. In his deck box he has his original deck and side deck. One card in his side deck that gets special mention is Unity. It won't ever be played but he can't bare to be parted with it for one reason or another. He has bought many, many packs of cards since the game arrived on Thor (seemingly with him). Any cards that have not been put to use have been put into a binder, all ordered by type of card and then alphabetically.

He has a few black marble notebooks that he records all the various events of Thor's Improbability Drive in. Other information can be found there as well, such as encounters with important people, when and how his friends are said to leave, and important conversation points. These can be found on the desk in his room.

On his bed he has a blanket that was handmade by Miwako. Underneath his bed in a few shoeboxes are the many, many cards Miwako bought for him for his birthday that have not been organized yet.

At any given time on his desk you may also be able to find books from Thor's library. Most of them include how the ship works, books about science, and books about the universe. Bookmarks will always be found a quarter or halfway in and seemingly never reach past that. Piled up on the right side of his desk are completely finished number, game and puzzle books. Near the desk lamp is a small cup with various pens and pencils inside. Off to the left side are a few used black kohl pencils.

In his closet he has many different outfits, most of them having something to do with leather. There are other clothes that a normal person might wear but he's either rarely or never seen wearing them. Taped to the door is a map of the Thor. There are a few marks on it but they will be nondescript and confusing to anyone viewing it. Hanging on hooks (that seemed to have been hand-driven into the wood of the door) are many silver chains and necklaces, along with arm bands, bracelets, and belts. On the top shelf are a few boardgames that all look opened but otherwise mostly untouched.

His room is always in impeccable condition. His bed is always made and everything is spotless. He knows where any given thing he needs or wants within his room is. The bed is always made, Miwako's blanket draped over the top of everything else. ▼

Friends Familiar Faces
	Amaterasu♥ ♣ This goddess has been kind and caring towards Atem ever since he arrived. He's very grateful for her friendship, sometimes finding himself leaning on her for support.
	Flandre♥♣ Atem has shared a kiss with this girl as well as many other intimate experiences of blood sharing. He's promised to always be truthful with her and remain by her side for as long as he is able, as well as protect her.
	Stocking♥♣♣ At this point in time, Atem is quite something something is there, but he is unsure of what to do about it. He's trying to let the cards fall where they may, rather than forcing anything. He enjoys spending time with stocking very much, and when pushed it seems is not afraid to assert his authority around other males.
	Milly♥♣♣ Atem has admitted his feelings to Milly in the midst of some passionate feelings. He's often worried that she'll throw herself into the fray for him, but at the same time the thought warms him. It's another case of trying not to push too hard to see progress, and instead letting things happen as they are supposed to.
	Miwako♥♣ Seeing her, or seeing things that will make her, happy often times makes Atem happy as well. He wants the best for Miwako, and feels nothing but true friendship with her.

	Nuregami♥♣♣ Getting used to seeing her face around now, Atem has become quite fond of this Goddess. He enjoys speaking with her and has become accustomed to hearing from her in times of need.
	Marisa♥♣ This girl seems a little rough around the edges, something he likens to one of his friends from his homeworld. He enjoys seeing her happy and productive with her skills and worries in moments when she needs a little help.
	Rapunzel♥♣ He's found himself unable to resist cheering her up when she gets into tight spots, as well as offering a hand at some literally friendly advice. Her smile makes him smile somehow.
	Rossi♥♣ Running across this guy dressed as his rival was a weird way to start things out. But he's found Rossi to be nothing short of intelligent and mildly entertaining. He also might one day ask if he has a sister named Maria...

Acquaintances Come And Go
	Seras♥♣ It's been an interesting little journey learning more about this girl. He is still quite eager to know more from the few things she's slipped now and again.
	M♣♣ M has earned Atem's respect over their interactions over the Guide. He finds M to always be on top of things, precise and vastly intelligent. He likes bouncing ideas off of the other and seeing what the other man has come up with so far.
	Ashura-ou♥♣♣ Often times the king, Ashura has easily gained Atem's respect. At times soft spoken and at others the man seems to know exactly what needs to be done or said. Atem has gotten used to seeing him around and speaking with him on various subjects.
	Youmu♥♣ He finds Youmu to be cute at times, though he'd never directly use that word. Sometimes he worries that she pushes herself too hard in the work that she does. He likes catching her on the network or spending time with her in the garden when he is able.
	Maraich♣ Though quite often times viewed as eccentric, Atem has enjoyed getting to know this man. He's also one of the only ones that seems close to getting out of here, and for that he has earned Atem's respect.
	Kaylee♥♣♣ There are times when this space-girl often confused Atem with her lingo and knowhow of ships and other things. He doesn't mind and will often listen (and pretend he gets it). At the beginning her bubbly nature drew him in and he might have entertained the idea of having a crush on her.
	Dr. Sartre♥♣♣ The only times Atem feels uneasy around this man are when he finds himself injured (it's hard to hide things like that from a doctor). Otherwise he's chalked Sartre up to be an honest and respectable man.
	Yukito♣ Recently viewed as hyperactive, Atem's gotten to like Yukito the more they talk. He tries to share her optimistic nature about the enviornment and their worlds as often as he can.
	Leo♣ Before these two even knew each other, Leo was spouting off about a deep and passionate love of Atem. It put the man in a tight and uncomfortable spot. Things might be a little awkward between them for a long time.
	Remilia♣ The circumstances of their first meeting were not the best. However Atem has heard lots about this older sister from her younger one, Flandre. He's not quite sure what to make of her yet, but her protective nature towards her sister is something to be respected.
	Fox♣♣ Their conversations tend to be more on the serious side. Another person he feels it's alright to share information with at times.

One-Liners We Should Talk Again Soon
	Papillon♣ Another eccentric face, although this one Atem is not completely sure about. There has always seemed to be something off about the other, though... that could just be the way he dresses and behaves.
	Chen♣ How could he resist such a cute little cat girl? Atem finds himself curious about this little one more often than not.
	Eiki♣ Her job of judgment is one that interests Atem. He finds he often respects her way of thinking and intelligence.
	Sherlock Holmes♣ The slightly eccentric detective. Though he's fallen slightly away as a distance has been created, he'd easily be able to jump back in and continue their discussions of ridiculous games and other things.
	Canada♣ Canada's shy nature often confuses Atem at times. Though the other is overly helpful at times and Atem really appreciates this.
	The Doctor♣♣ Curious and most certainly amusing, Atem would like to pick this man's brain for sure.
	The Doctor♣♣ Another case of curious, and knowing he's some form of the other Doctor helps with this quite a bit.
	Nia♣♣ The strange girl with the strange eyes. He might have even forgot to ask her name whilst staring so hard.

Antagonists Stay Out Of My Way
	Panty♠♠ Rude, crude, and wholly disrespectful. Since recently he can't seem to stand how much she wants to be in his and\or Stocking's buisiness. And tricking her sister into being homeless was the cherry on top.
	Brittany♣ After the fiasco with the news program, Atem has not really seen fit to forgive the girl ... even though she did apologize after hours of being explained to why what she did was wrong. Maybe in time but for now it's still a sore spot.

When do they consider it okay to kill (under what circumstances)?

-When it's necessary. When there are no other options. When he's backed into a corner or his loved ones are hanging in the balance.

When do they consider it wrong to kill (under what circumstances)?

-Needlessly, uselessly, for fun, or just because someone can.

What would they do if someone else attempted to (or successfully did) kill under their "wrong" circumstances, what would be their reaction?

-He's faced it before, and despite he himself having killed under those circumstances, he still finds it sickening.

What if it were their enemy?

-And that's where there is a disconnect. He wouldn't care. He'd probably see it as less work for him to have to do later. He might even be a little miffed that he didn't get to take his enemy down himself.

What if it were their friend?

-There would be no help for the one who did it. He would end their life as quick as he possibly could.

What if it were an innocent?

-He doesn't like to see innocent blood spilled. He would probably try to exact revenge for this "innocent".

What if the opponent were not in control of their own actions (under duress, charmed, dominated, possessed)?

-He'd have to try and bring them out of it. He's faced this down before, too, and it's never pleasant.

What would they do if someone shot at (attacked) them?

-He'd retaliate.

What would they do if something were stolen from them?

-If it was something inconsequential he might feel a little miffed, but he'd let it go. If it was something very important (EX: The Puzzle somehow) he'd do whatever he had to to get it back.

What would they do if they were badly insulted publicly?

-What kind of insults? He'd probably shrug them off or retaliate with something sly; try not to let whoever it is get under his skin. In the end he knows that's the reason they're doing it, for reaction.

What would they do if a good friend or relative were killed by means other than natural death?

-He'd be devastated.

What is the one task they would absolutely refuse to do?

-Betraying, harming, or killing his friends and loved ones- or innocents for that matter.

What do they consider to be the worst crime someone could commit and why?

-Murder; betrayal, manipulation and deception are right up there, however.

How do they feel about government (rulers) in general?

-His own was run by him and his Sacred Court and he thought he did an alright job. His father always was better at it and did a perfect job, as far as he was concerned.

Why do they feel that way?

-Because he was part of it, family was part of it. He was taught how to try and please, how to try and rule, what was fair and wasn't fair.

Do they support the current government of their homeland?

-Well of course.

If so, how far are they willing to go to defend the government? If not, do they actively oppose it?

-He would, of course, defend his father's ideals until his dying breath. His own are also hard to sway, but if really given a good argument and portrayal of what's wrong with the way he's doing things, he would look at it.

Do they belong to an anti-government organization?

-Absolutely not.

What form of government do they believe is the best (democracy, monarchy, anarchy, aristocratic rule, oligarchy, matriarchy) and why?

-Obviously monarchy is the most obvious choice, being that he inherited his rule and government into his own hands. But with his Sacred Court who also acted as his advisors and were always by his side, this makes it more of a theocracy.

Have they ever been persecuted for their political stance?

-A tricky little thief sought to outright kill Atem and banish the royal line. But it was pretty obvious that he wanted to just rule the world, too, so their views couldn't have actually been that different (aside from the fact that Bakura just wanted to rule, Atem wanted to rule right)

If so, describe the occurrence and how it affected them?

-He had to fight a very long and tiresome battle throughout that entire escapade.

Are they a member of any non-religious group, cause, order, or organization?

-No.

-His pride is always noticed, as well as his logical state of mind and his quietness at times when he's inside his own mind.

If so, describe them and how they acquired them, as well as when they might be more noticeable and what causes them.

-Atem has gained his pride over many, many years. He's just a prideful person, being a ruler and God-King will do that to you, but he always tried to not let it get the best of him. Sometimes it's not helpful though, when he's Dueling or talking about something or doing something that he knows he's good at or is right about. Logic comes with Dueling too, as well as in sticky situations, and he's a quick thinker to boot. Quietness is more reserved around new people or when he's feeling particularly solemn or off his own game. He's learned this through a number of people- when it is better to hold your tongue than to speak foolishly.

How do they react if made fun of for any of these things?

-A stare, an eye-roll, a scoff.

Do they have any unusual or nervous mannerisms, such as when talking, thinking, afraid, under stress, or when embarrassed?

-He tends to shift a lot, if he's standing- he also has defense stances, such as arms going over his chest or his hip shifting outward, a hand going to rest on it. He sometimes runs a hand through his hair when he's just played out or lightly stressed.

If so, are there any reasons behind them from their past?

-The hip shifts are more of a prideful peacock thing. He's displaying that he can be outwardly aggressive or that you're not getting to him or that he wants more. Crossing his arms over his chest just feels protective, like he can protect himself from anything by doing it. The hair thing is just something he started doing after a long while; it goes good with a sigh. Quite dramatic.

Do they have an unusual gait or accent?

-His accent is heavy when he's speaking his native tongue and grows deeper when he's rushed or overly emotional, obviously. But his Japanese sounds like he could have been born there, too, thanks to Yuugi.

If so, where did they acquire them?

-Egypt and Japan respectively (or a young Japanese boy if you want to be more specific).

Are there any circumstances where they become more (or less) evident?

-His emotions play a big part in his natural tongue.

How do they feel and react if made fun of for any of these things?

-Who would dare? He's never encountered this before.

What place would they most like to visit?

-He's not much for traveling.

What (if any) are their favorite forms of art?

-He really does enjoy literature; written word, obviously. Music can sometimes be inspiring, too.

What is their most treasured possession?

-His Puzzle. Despite what it is and all the trouble it's caused, it's the one thing that gives him the most power- and the only remaining tie to his people, Yuugi and his father that he has left.

What things could he/ she not live without?

-The normal amenities- though he dissolves pretty quickly without his friends. This comes from being used to being alone, afraid, and no one. Having made so many friends, it's really hard to have to go back to that.

Do they have a good luck charm?

-Jounouchi? That guy is pretty lucky.

If their life were to end in 24 hours, what 5 things would they do in those remaining hours?

-Atem is constantly living with the notion that at any moment he could die, that he could be taken away. But he tries not to let that overtake him. If it was imminent, however, he would just spend as much time as he could saying goodbye, and alternatively listening to Seto bark about how there's no way he'll allow it. A Duel or two, would be nice as well.

Do they have a "Black-and-White" view of reality or can they see shades of grey?

-I think in the beginning he was definitely trained to try to see all aspects of things, all sides of a story (grey). After being locked up it became very cut and dry (black and white). You do bad you are bad, you annoy my friends you're going to die (despite the fact that he was and did bad very often but he never said he wasn't a hypocrite at least or that he didn't acknowledge he was a terrible person). It's shifted back to grey again with the help of Yuugi and friends.

Do they prefer to tear down or build up?

-Build up, always, even if there's a chance you'll lose it all.

Are they deliberate or spontaneous?

-Very deliberate and thought out. He gets flustered when spontaneous things are thrown his way (see: Date with Anzu).

Do they prefer the town or the country?

-He loved the life of the city back in Egypt. But he's probably carrying a little flame for beautiful countryside after having experienced it in his journeys with Yuugi.

If made to decide, would they rather be deaf or blind? Why?

-Deaf, most likely. His eyesight is very valuable to him in a metaphorical and literal sense. Can he see and sense wrong doings, and can he see and touch things dear to him. Worst of all, being blind might prevent him from Dueling and we can't have that. Aside that, he does enjoy watching his friends and loves smile and be warm. Not being able to hear them and hear the roar of a duel monster would be devastating, but not being able to see them would be much more so.

How do they feel about magic, myth, and the supernatural?

-He has tamed magic, has become myth to some and was a supernatural being at one point in his life.

Do they remember their dreams?

-Too vividly, sometimes.

Describe a typical dream they might have.

-Sounds, feelings, colors and blurbs. Most of his more pleasant dreams are either ones he can't remember or ones that have scenes going by too quickly for him to realize.

Describe their worst nightmares.

-Watching the death of his parents (seeing their dead bodies), feeling the pain of loss, dying on the battlefield, being confined in darkness, being alone, being disowned or betrayed by the people he loves, not being able to save the people he loves.

Career/Training

Where and how were they educated?

-In the palace; via scrolls, legends, facts, data, books and other things usually used to educate someone.

Who trained them in their class or job?

-Various tutors that are usually tasked with training young royalty.

What was their relationship with their teacher(s)/mentor(s)?

-Probably not very good when he was younger. He was a bit restless and kind of just wanted to play hide and seek a lot of the time. But when he grew a bit older he really did buckle down and take everything to heart and mind.

How did they happen across this teacher or mentor?

-They were chosen by his father and mother, no doubt.

Was their mentor kind, stern, cruel, indifferent?

-I could see mentors trying to be firm, but also scared of angering a young Prince.

Is this person or institution still in existence?

-No way.

Were they forced into their profession by parents or peers?

-Well... technically, on being a Pharaoh. His profession now is kind of being the King of Games. That was more forced by fate, than anything.

Did circumstances dictate their choice of profession?

-All the way. Being born a prince and having his father die gave him the throne. Being locked away as a spirit and found by Yuugi in a world of card games gave him the chance to be the King at them.

Were they a prize student or did they just barely pass?

-In the earlier years he probably slacked and didn't pay much attention, like I said. But around 10ish he buckled down and was a very astute child and a quick learner.

Look at their skills. How did they acquire them (especially the unusual ones)?

-Most of his skills are logic and game based. He came into his own with most of those, being really good at games and strategy even when he was younger. He was able to think quick on his feet or on the board and outwit every single person who came up against him. Today that still true, for the most part. They came in under necessity and want to be a very good ruler, some just with natural talent.

Have they ever done anything else for a living?

-With this skill set and the fact that card games rule everything in the YGO world, there's not much he could or would want to do with his skill set.

How do they function in combat (maneuvers, weaknesses)?

-He's small, light and quick on his feet. He's usually always one step ahead of his opponent. Sometimes his smugness or arrogance can cost him a great deal, however, and give his enemies a chance to strike back. Even after all these years he still has to work on that.

How would they best be defeated?

-Striking when he's weak or overly confident and being absolutely relentless afterwards- don't give him a chance to recover because he will. Then it's over for you.

Have they ever received any awards or honors?

-A ruling hand over the entire Egypt in his past life, the title of King of Games in this one.

What have they done that was considered "outstanding" in their occupation by others in their field?

-Atem was seen as a very good leader (as good as or better than his father but he would never believe it). And he's an excellent gamer, always on top of everyone else.

What are their long-term goals in work?

-If he ever gets back to Domino, I'm sure he'd like to keep on playing games until he just can't anymore.

Describe any traumatic experiences in their present occupation that has affected them deeply in some way.

-Losing is always very hard for Atem. When he loses it means he is simply not good enough or he's got something very big to learn. Every time Atem has lost a game it's been due to the fact that he really screwed up in some way, shape, or form. Losing is hard for him. It really forces him to have to take a look at himself and what he's done wrong.

How do their relatives and friends view their present occupation?

-They think it's the most awesome thing ever, obviously.

Is there anything that they don't currently know how to do that they wish they could?

-He's finding out about all these new games that Yuugi's time has. He wants to learn how to play them all (and become good at them\perfect strategies for them).

Are they envious of others who can do such things in a good-natured way or are they sullen and morose about it?

-Yuugi always seems to shine through with this quality. Atem's not really sullen, maybe a slight bit envious, but more than anything he's curious. How Yuugi can always keep a positive is remarkable to him.

Lifestyle/Hobbies

What is their normal daily routine?

-On Salkia it's something to the tune of, wake up (or continue to be awake since his sleeping pattern is so, so messed up), take a shower, go to work, make sure there's no chaos going on, go home, spend time with family (Yuuki, Yuugi) or loved ones (Kaiba), go to bed (or continue to stay up because...). Repeat over and over.

How do they feel and react when this routine is interrupted for some reason?

-When it is that usually means trouble. He hates trouble. He hates cleaning up trouble, but he always will because that's what he does.

What are their hobbies?

-Doing puzzles, playing games, reading. Saving the day. You know.

What would they do if they had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse themselves?

-Ahah. That's really funny considering he goes days without sleep. At night sometimes he'll do puzzle books that he's bought from the bookstore. Sometimes he really can go all night just inside his head with his thoughts, sometimes he prays, sometimes he writes in his journal (especially recording important things or events). Sometimes he hangs out with Kaiba because that guy never sleeps either.

What do they do for relaxation?

-Praying is actually pretty relaxing to him at times. Sometimes he'll go for a nice, long walk if it's really necessary. Sometimes playing card games or chess against himself is a good relaxer, too.

What things do they do for enjoyment?

-Games, puzzles, hanging out with loved ones.

Do they like to dress up or down to relax?

-Atem is very comfortable in his leather and chains. He doesn't need to change to get relaxed.

Do they have a look or style? If so, describe it.

-By other outsiders it's been called quite a dominatrix\masochistic look. Leather is the key to most of his outfits; leather pants and tank tops with leather shoes. He loves bracelets and bands (either on his upper arms or wrists), chains or a choker around his neck, chains or his usual double belt look around his hips (and his deckbox on one of those belts). If it's cold he'll sometimes wear the school jacket or various other sweaters/coats. And always with the Sennen Puzzle around his neck.

What do they normally wear in bed at home?

-It's rare that he really chooses to go to bed on his own. So much so that when he does pass out or fall asleep, it's with someone (usually Kaiba) and usually after doing something (talking works too, get your mind out of the gutter). So sometimes he really just falls asleep in his clothes. But he will at least take off his shoes and puzzle.

Do they wear any identifiable jewelry?

-Back in Egypt he couldn't be seen without his leg\arm bands of gold, his gold choker or his crown. Now he's got his leather cuffs and bands, chains- he is always seen with the Puzzle though (last life and this one).

Where do they normally put their weapons, magic items, or other valuables when they are sleeping?

-Next to him on the bedside table.

What morning or evening routines do they normally have?

-Always a shower in the morning, after which he'll get dressed and apply his kohl. Night time is just do whatever due to being unable to sleep.

What pastime (that they participate in regularly) gives them the most enjoyment?

-Games, Duel Monsters being on top of everything else.

What pastime (that they participate in regularly) gives they the least enjoyment?

-I'd say being depended upon gets really tiring after a while. Since he was a leader I guess it counts as a pastime?

Do they read the newspaper?

-No.

If so, which sections and how often?

-N\A

Travel: how do they get around locally?

-On Salkia the only way to get around is to walk, really. In Domino he's been driven places, taken ships and been flown places. In Egypt he either walked or rode a horse.

What is their idea of a good evening's entertainment?

-Depends on his mood, really. If he's feeling like being a loner he can curl up and solve puzzles all night and be fine. But sometimes he does like to indulge and have a night with his friends.

Do they get seasick, airsick, motion sick (auto or animal)?

-Nope.

Do they like riding animals?

-He really does enjoy riding horses.

Any fears in traveling?

-None that he's ever displayed.

What sorts of general belongings or equipment do they take when traveling?

-...traveling to where?

What are their hangout places?

-On Salkia he's either at his apartment, his place of work, the arcade, or the mall.

Do they go to a bar after work?

-No.

Do they play pool?

-No. But if he were introduced to the game I'm sure he'd really enjoy it.

Do they go dancing? Who goes with them?

-No. N/A.

What do they read? Scientific textbooks, historical novels, myths and legends, maps, cookbooks, romances, news magazines, science fiction, fantasy, horror, the newspaper, short stories?

-If he ever has an interest in anything it's catching up on what he's missed. Kaiba had him reading some Nietzsche a while ago.

What music do they like?

-Sometimes soft tempos. But he's been known to shake his hips a little at hot blooded beats.

Do they have a favourite artist, band or bard?

-No.

Will they listen to or sing the same songs over and over, or does it drive them nuts when people do that?

-I'm sure that he could.

-Atem doesn't really exercise all that much. Back in Egypt he trained physically. Now the most he'll do is go for a run sometimes.

-Wherever Kia decides.

-On Salkia either an apartment or a house and it changes. Back in Egypt he owned a palace.

-Depends on who he's given as his neighbors.

-Well that depends really..

-He probably would if he could, a really hetero man flower garden. But since his scenery is changing all the time he can't. So he enjoys his work at the shop. His mother used to own a very large garden on the side of the palace. He tended to it after she died.

-Whatever Kia decided was cool that day. He doesn't go shopping for extras.

-Whatever Kia thought was awesome. Probably frilly lace.

-Yes. He really does like for things to be clean and tidy.

-He has a desk in his room that's covered in various books and papers. Most of which are puzzle books or scribbling. His journal is somewhere there too if he's sitting around.

-Always.

-Probably dark red or something.

-A kitten (who's probably more of a cat considering he got her a year ago). Her name is Mana, after one of his best friends.

What does it say?

-Although not having one, he did have last wishes to be carried out before his death in Egypt 3,000 years back. A lot of prophetic stuff, like scraping his name off of every wall, painting, etc. And also making sure that the Sennen items were never found again. Whoops on that one.

Miscellaneous

What would they like to be remembered for after their death?

-He didn't say as much, but he probably would have liked to have been known as a good leader. That was kind of hard to do with all the mysteriousness surrounding him though and the fact that he wasn't allowed to keep his name.

What kind of threat do they present to the public?

-The general public? None at all, really.

If their features were to be destroyed beyond recognition, is there any other way of identifying their body?

-Well that's really morbid. I'd say his hair would give him away but that's a feature right? Well maybe his crimson eyes if you opened them. Otherwise he'd be draped in leather and chains- oh and his deck would most likely be on him. That would be a very good indicator.

How much is a pint of mead?

-A pint. (What kind of question is this....)

As a player, if you could, what advice would you give your character? Speak as if he/she were sitting right here in front of you. Use proper tone so they might heed your advice...

-Uh. Stop being so serious all the time! Calm down a little. Take time to enjoy the little things. You’re a good guy. Don’t get so down on yourself all the time. You have lots of people that love you!

Atem helped Banette overcome her upset and fear over being thrown away. The two have since become very close and Banette is constantly seen outside of her pokeball lounging around on Atem's being. She's happy and contented with her master, often seen smiling or dancing about.

Of course Atem could not be without a cat on his team, and ironically the most perceived oddity and underdog of them all. Delcatty doesn't really fit in with the rest of his dark natured motif of pokemon, but it's a mistake to count her out immediately. She's strong willed in battle and very quick on her feet. However outside of battle she does like to lie about and preen constantly. When no one is looking she does enjoy a quick cuddle on her master's lap.

Atem's been with him since a very young age and the two have grown quite close; Atem eventually helping the young Ralts overcome a shy-at-first nature to become something amazing.

This little Eevee had been won by some Rocket Grunt at the Game Corner a long time ago. As per the usual agenda, this Rocket abused the little Eevee constantly. The moment Atem saw this he stepped in, challenging the man to a battle. Once won, he confiscated every last pokemon from the man. He kept the Eevee for himself. Though still plagued by nightmares of that time, now, Umbreon trusts Atem with her life and stays by his side always. Atem has given her the strength to move on with her life and become something so much greater than a small, hurt Eevee. For that she will be forever thankful and loving.

Atem found this little Natu with a broken wing, trapped in the ruins. He promptly rescued it and the two became fast friends. However, once evolved something seemed to happen inside this quirky little bird. A nature that truly belies its proud and noble standing- This Xatu loves to play pranks. He is very serious on the field, but when not fighting, he seems to love to play small harmless tricks on Atem's team- sometimes Atem himself.

Atem came upon a wild pack of Poochyenas quite a long time ago making trouble in the Petalburg Woods. They'd steal shiny items and food from trainers and team up unfairly to beat up other pokemon. After taking down the leader, this Mightyena now, the pack quieted down and became easier to deal with. Mightyena realizes Atem's strength and sees him as a superior trainer and gladly works underneath him- Atem has become his pack master now.

Atem challenged this Absol once he made his way inside the mountain. The match was intense but eventually she had to bow her head in acceptance of her loss. It ended quickly after that, Atem rushing the injured Absol down the summit and to a pokecenter. He gave her the choice to return back up to the mountains, not wanting to cage such a magnificent creature. In the end she decided to stay with him and his team.

This Murkrow was very excited to see Atem inside the cave. He tried to steal some very shiny and jingly bracelets from Atem and run off with them. The pokemon trainer was quick to recover the items and challenge the bird to a battle. Instead, Murkrow was very happy to just join Atem's team, not wanting to waste energy to fight.

Atem saw this Sneasel get itself trapped underneath some ice. The pokemon been running after a dropped Pidgey egg he had dropped. As it skittered along, the ice cracked beneath him, sending him plummeting to the depths below. Atem ordered his Houndoom to burn the ice, making way for him to dive in and retrieve the drowning pokemon. Once returned to the surface, the trainer used a Full Heal and set a small fire to warm the Sneasel up. He was so grateful afterwards that he joined Atem's team.

She had been injured by another roaming pack and left to die. He scooped her up, bringing her to the nearest pokecenter as quick as he could. When she came to, she was so grateful to Atem that she called him her new master and has been by his side ever since.

This little ghost pokemon found herself quite fond of slowing down Atem's trek through Mt. Silver. She often tried scaring him away with wails and loud sobs but it didn't work. After a while she found herself quite enamored with his crazy hair- all the pretty colors and the way it stuck up on its own. She liked to pull and tug on it constantly, disappearing with little giggles every time he tried to stop her. Once he tried to leave she realized she didn't want to be without this crazy hair and decided to stick with him. Whenever she's free from her pokeball she likes to nestle up in his hair, still tugging and pulling from time to time.

Duskull was trying to whisk away a child it had deemed naughty, caught out after hours. Atem stepped in and challenged it to a battle. They did battle and Atem caught this pokemon, setting the child free to go home. Since then, now, Dusclops, is a quiet and determined member of Atem's team. Though sometimes that silence is unnerving...

Atem received this Haunter from an extremely frustrated trainer who just couldn't take it anymore. The pokemon had been caught as a Gastly but even as a young pokemon refused to do much of anything- except continually play pranks that is. Atem took on the challenge of trying to train this Gengar once it evolved right away. Has he trained it completely? Not really. Though sometimes things look promising, Gengar still loves to play very mean spirited pranks whenever it gets the chance.

This Drifloon fell asleep just outside of the Valley Windworks and was stolen away by some children. They had thought it was a regular balloon and took it back to the town to play with it. However once they realized it was a pokemon they eagerly started tossing it about and pulling on its strings too hard. Atem came by and taught them the lesson that you shouldn't play too rough with young pokemon. It's been grateful to the trainer ever since and decided to stay with him on his team.

It was actually a sort of joke quest that Atem took up to find this certain pokemon- and it was a long one, too. Nobody believed he could do it or that this pokemon really even existed. After speaking with so many people in The Underground and completing the mission with the Odd Keystone, he finally encountered one. After doing so much work to find, battle and catch it he was almost a little uneasy at the fact that this pokemon is so happy all the time. She doesn't seem to like to battle either, wanting to lie about and converse with other pokemon all the time instead.

This Abra has a little mark across his left cheek. It was a good indicator that every time Atem ran into this Abra in battle it was always the same one. It became annoying however when this Abra teleported away a counted twenty-five times before Atem could manage to knock it out and catch it. Now that it doesn't have to run it seems to have settled on Atem's team, relaxing outside of battle; generally loving naps and soaking up the sun. When it came time to trade, Alakazam became haughty and didn't listen to its new owner; it was quickly traded back and has since returned back to its regular lax state.

Drowzee happened upon a very young pokemon trainer Atem when he was only in his second year of travels. It found itself very curious about the young trainer's dark nightmares; once having ate one and became very sick from doing so. Since that time it followed him around, taking a peek into his dream scape from time to time without Atem knowing it. Eventually it confronted the trainer and the very young and brash Atem challenged it. Drowzee could have easily picked off his entire team but let itself be caught, wanting to be close to Atem and continue to watch over his dreams when it could.

Mr. Mime

When Atem was traveling through the Safari Zone, this Mr. Mime decided to play a game with him. It trapped him inside an invisible maze, having too much fun watching the trainer smack into walls to let him go. Atem challenged it, saying that if he could find his way out of the maze this time and not run into a single wall, the Mime should let itself be caught and never play such mean tricks again. Mr. Mime accepted these rules, having made his own up that should Atem lose he'd haunt him and the rest of the tourists at the Safari Zone with traps forever. Once the game began Atem did not run into a single wall, and Mr. Mime honored his word, becoming a part of Atem's team.

This Espeon was abandoned by its trainer once it evolved- the shiny color of its coat displeasing to its original master who quickly became disgusted with it and kicked it out. It wandered aimlessly, upset and alone through the region, continually picked on for its green markings. Atem happened upon it on Route 212 while it was raining heavily. Though extremely distrustful of the trainer, Espeon needed shelter and food badly, so he came to trust Atem slightly. It decided to stick around after a while, following Atem on his journey and eventually becoming a full fledged member of the trainer's team. It's very wary around others, only trusting Atem for guidance and warmth- even other pokemon put it on edge.

Atem was handed an egg at a pokemon center by a stranger with a far away look in his eyes; he kept on repeating, "I've just been back from Mirage Island..." Once Atem took the egg and then looked back, the man was gone. Of course it went on to hatch into a Wynaut. A very bubbly and silly little pokemon with lots of energy. However once it evolved it hunkered down and now doesn't really want to do much of anything. It annoys Atem a lot when he tries to train and can't get much out of it. When Atem gets really stern Wobbuffet will listen, afraid that his master will let him go if he doesn't shape up.

Caught as a Spoink; found on Jagged Pass

This Spoink was extremely clumsy, not used to bouncing around on its tail as much as its other pokemon brethren were. It happened to bounce too high, hitting Atem on the head on its way down, sending them both falling over the rocks at Jagged Pass. Once Atem came to, he challenged it to a battle, having been a little upset and bruised over what happened. After catching the Spoink though he eased up, trying to teach it how to calm down just a little. It continued to hurt itself so much that he was resigned to teaching it Rest just so it would be able to chill out and heal every now and again. As a Grumpig she has tried to be more refined, but every now and again she trips or gets too excited for her own good.

This little Sunkern dropped right down on Atem's head while he was traveling through Route 204. At first when he placed it down on the ground it absolutely refused to battle, confusing Atem. It begun to follow him around, only a day later challenging him to a battle instead. It was quickly defeated and added to Atem's team. Sunflora loves to show off his brilliant yellow leaves to other pokemon and trainers, often waving them proudly in invitation.

Atem found this Treecko on his beginning travels on Route 101. It seemed hasty and at first didn't even want to battle. When Atem continually challenged it, it finally accepted. The battle wasn't too long and right afterwards the trainer brought this pokemon back to the nearby lab, suspicious that it might have run away. Professor Birch denied the allegation, allowing Atem to keep it on his team.

Carnivine

On his third time through Viridian Forest, Atem was surprised to see this pokemon lounging in one of the far corners of the area. It caught him by surprise, never having seen it before. Once the pokedex picked up an entry, he tried to enter battle. It was only after that did he realize Carnivine wasn't lounging but passed out. She had gorged herself on too many sweet berries beforehand and dragged herself off underneath a tall tree to deal with her tummy ache. Atem stayed close by until she came to. She was extremely embarrassed that she got caught in such a situation, challenging him to a battle to ease her pride.

Atem's actual starter pokemon bequeathed to him by Professor Oak. The Bulbasaur didn't seem to want to do much of anything outside of battle, rather interested in just doing its job as a pokemon- which as far as it saw it was to fight. Eventually Atem began to sway its thinking when he brought it outside of battle more and more often on his travels. Once evolved into Ivysaur however it seemed to not evolve ever again. Atem has decided not to push the issue and let Ivysaur do as he pleases. He would never force an evolution.

She was determined to take him down to prove to herself her own strength. However when she attacked him in the tall grass, her plan did not go so well. She ended up captured. While on Atem's team now she is always concentrating on gaining strength and learning new things.

This Ekans happened upon Atem when it was just a newborn. At first it was very angry, having lost its way from its other newly hatched brothers and sisters, and took its bad mood out on Atem. It latched onto his arm, biting him as hard as it could. While its fangs were still something to be reckoned with, it had no poison yet. Atem took it on as a teammate and raised it; the Ekans ever since then taking to nibbling on Atem's being from time to time as a method of calming. Now as an Arbok it still likes to do this but it makes Atem very nervous as its venom is very powerful.

This little Nidoran was found with another when the two were very young. They were very in love. Atem felt bad about splitting them up so he caught them both. They work very well together in double battles, often trying to protect one another or even sometimes trying to out do each other.

The other set in the duo of the Nidorans. He's always been grateful to Atem for catching them together and keeping them so well off. Whenever he has one, he always seems to call the other. Outside of battle these two are often seen cuddling with one another.

This snake pokemon attacked Atem while on his travels through Hoenn- quite mercilessly. It was very strong and put up an extremely tough fight but in the end Atem was able to out maneuver it with quick thinking. Sometimes it still has trouble being part of a team, rather wanting to be brilliant on its own. It's because of this that Atem can't ever use him for double battles. It also has a bad streak with wanting to impress Atem no matter what the situation. This often lends the trainer to a lot of headache and trouble.

This Zubat wanted to prove so much to its other clan members that she was so amazing that she relentlessly went after Atem even after he'd sprayed a max repel. The end result was her getting knocked clean out after smelling the air, falling from the cave ceiling right to the floor. Taking pity on the bat (though having been thoroughly annoyed by other attempts by them through this cave) he caught the pokemon and brought it to the pokecenter. After feeling much better, the Zubat decided to stick around as a member of his team.

This little Skorupi wandered upon Atem's camp at night time looking for some food. Through the rest of his travels during the night along the Great Marsh it continually attacked his camp trying to eat all of his tasty food. In the end, when sharing wasn't cutting it, he decided to battle and capture this pokemon. It has an innate love of all food- human or pokemon and will eat most anything given to it. Even though it has been trained and has become better since then, sometimes if left unattended by something yummy it will wander off and steal a taste.

This Vulpix came to Atem when he was just in his early second year of training, a very dark time for him. She'd wandered onto him in the middle of a storm and was determined to keep the boy from freezing to death. Through the night she valiantly kept a flame going and nudged Atem to make sure he was alright. At one point she'd even brought an apple for him to snack on. He's been grateful to her ever since, always regarding her as a refined sort of mother figure to his other pokemon as well.

This young puppy ran into Atem while on a run with its pack. Atem stopped for a while to play fetch with it, needing the break after a hard gym battle. The two bonded very quickly after that. Though of course they went through a battle before Atem was allowed to catch the young dog and add him to his team. Arcanine often loves going for runs after battle, especially once he's come back from the pokecenter. Instead of letting Atem ride atop him, though, he secretly enjoys taking off before Atem can hop up on him and making his master take chase after him.

An unusual starter but one he'd never give up for anything. He still loves to ride Rapidash at top speeds over the regions, the horse loving to carry him about and challenge him to hold on tighter... as long as there's a nice long brushing in it for her later.

Atem witnessed this pokemon being pushed to its absolute limits by a pageant trainer. The girl was shouting and calling for it to do way too much work, often degrading the pokemon when she couldn't do something right or didn't do it perfect enough. He made a tough bet that if he could beat her water pokemon with his fire pokemon he'd be able to take the Milotic away from her; if he lost she'd gain all of the pokemon he had on hand. Of course in the end he won. The Milotic is now a strong member of his team although she's still very shy and hates loud noises.

The only bad thing about all of this is that the feelings seem to have passed from previous owner to pokemon. The Luvdisc constantly tries to be near Atem, making kissy faces or sounds at him, wriggling happy whenever he acknowledges her and snuggling up with him whenever she gets the chance.

Once he did though he caught it, instituting it as a member of his team. However, he's had to work very hard to get this shark to listen to anything he says. It often likes to disobey him and do other things instead of listen to its new master.

This Electabuzz was causing massive power outages at Lavender Town. The ghosts inside the Pokemon Tower constantly picked on this wayward pokemon until one day it had had enough and sent a streak of lightning right up the side of the tower. Due to the antenna on top it radiated outwards towards the entire city and caused a massive blackout. Atem, traveling by at the time, had decided to try and take on the Elctabuzz to try and stop it from causing havoc. The pokemon actually ran all the way back to the Power Plant before giving up the chase and facing the trainer.

This Electrike got picked on often for not being as fast as her other brothers and sisters. While Atem was biking down Route 110, she challenged him to a race in front of the other pokemon. He didn't seem to understand so she continually stepped in front of his path until he allowed it. The two raced down the path and in the end Atem won. She got so upset that she shocked his bike and melted it. He got angry enough to challenge her to an actual battle (wouldn't you, bikes cost like a million dollars). Atem has since forgiven her (but not acquired a new bike).

Shinx seemed to have gotten whisked away by its curiosity by a group of mean Exeggcute who wanted nothing but to torture it. When Atem happened upon the group, they tried to act like they were merely playing. However the soft flashes of the scared Shinx's fur tipped him off to his troubles. He challenged the eggs to a battle, taking them all on at once. It was quickly over with. Afterwards Shinx joined his team, grateful for his help.

Atem even managed to get hit in the process of their multiple shockwaves, angering his current pokemon out on the field. Eventually his team was able to take down all of the surrounding magnet pokemon, leaving the first one who caused all the trouble to apologize profusely.

This Skarmory went into battle with Atem when he was trekking through the mountain in order to try and catch a glimpse of one of the legendary pokemon said to lie within. During battle the bird got so haughty and upset that one of its gusts actually kicked up enough wind to blow Atem backwards. Unfortunately it was back into a lava pit. With quick action and thinking the bird threw off the rest of the battle, diving into the pit to save him with only moments to spare. He's stayed with Atem ever since, trying to make up for his accidental misdeed.

After dismissing her attempts and battling with her, he kept her on his team.

After a search for its group provided no leads, he just decided to take her on his team until she decided to depart. That day has yet to come. At times she seems overly grateful, which can become a problem rather quickly...

Atem took Glameow onto his team, helping him take revenge on the terrible ally cats that had since ruined its life. Though far beyond the stage of evolution now, it seems Glameow refuses to evolve, scared perhaps that if he did, he might become mean and terrible like the Puruglys that once tormented him.

It came raining down from the sky, landing right into Atem's hair. The trainer didn't much appreciate this and challenged it to a battle ~~to make up for his damaged pride and hair~~. Once over, and the pokemon seemed thoroughly apologetic over the incident, he kept her on the team.

After traveling for a little while after the evolution and seeing that it was clearly unhappy, he released the Ninjask back to the forest.

This Marowak was making trouble for the varied inhabitants of Quest Island. It would travel from top to bottom to visit the smaller, lesser known pokemon gravesites put up by their owners and dig up their bones. Though this being a part of the pokemon's nature, once Atem found out he immediately challenged it to a battle. It was tough, too, the pokemon having a lot of rage to fuel its quest. In the end it lost and has since been placed on Atem's team. Sometimes it still likes to show off how angry at being caught it is.

This was a rare case of a pokemon that Atem actually sought after for a long time. After hearing rumors of its existence at the Falls he immediately set out there. The drive to find the pokemon dwindled with each room he entered to no such luck, and beating trainers along the way only diminished his will further. In the last room, finally, hovering above the water, Atem found this Solrock. It entranced him, and still to this day, even after capture, the spell seems not to have worn off.

He politely tried to refuse and tried to keep going on despite the hated frigid conditions. She took it as an insult and followed him into town, insisting in her little chirps and wails that her food was better than anything he'd get! When he realized she wasn't about to go until he obliged, he took a hand full of snow and promptly popped it in his mouth. Delighted to see someone appreciated her cooking, she decided to stay. From time to time she can be seen trying to feed Atem these meals whenever she's not in battle.

Piloswine caught sight of Atem as he was trying to venture through the dangerous Ice Path. He was stuck trying to solve one of the puzzles blocking his path, and quickly realized he was going to freeze. Piloswine came to the rescue, digging up a small spring of hot water to keep Atem going the rest of the way. Eternally grateful (and needing that ability whenever he trekked into cold weather) Atem took the pokemon onto his team.

Atem's first steps on earth were in Egypt, many many years ago. Born to the Pharaoh Aknamkanon and his wife Samira, Egypt's chosen son was welcomed by all. A few years before his birth, his father's younger twin brother, Akhenaden, led a siege on the village of Kul Elna. Killing 99 residents in a blood ritual, he created the Sennen items. The only child to escape the bloodshed that night was Akefia Bakura who would later come back to threaten Atem's reign.

When Atem's father found out how the items were made, in his grief and repentance he took his own life, praying to the Gods to spare his son from his mistakes. Atem was hoisted to the throne early because of these actions, unsure and unsteady, but still willing to try. However, it did not take long for Akefia to make his reprise, having made a pact with Zorc Necrophades, he comes after Atem. His blame is placed on the entire royal family, and wishes nothing but for their deaths. In trying to collect the Sennen Items created, he finally calls Zorc to the human realm. Atem battles the monster with all of his strength, but cannot win out in the end. Doing the only thing he can think of, he seals Zorc into the Sennen Ring, and using the last bit of his own power, sentences his own soul to the same fate. He decides in his last few breaths that his name will become the keystone for releasing Zorc; so it is erased from every scroll and from history forever.

His soul then split, the part locked in the puzzle wiped of any memories whatsoever, making sure that his name was to never be released. However another piece came to rest in his tomb, watching over the lands and waiting for the day when someone would solve the trials of his resting place to take the puzzle to where destiny decided it should be. The man who did just this, and subsequently was saved by Atem's soul, was Sugoroku Mutou.

Atem’s puzzle took Yuugi nearly seven years to complete, being extremely difficult. Yuugi’s one wish on the puzzle was to grant him friends. Though when Atem was first released he was a very vengeful spirit, not knowing anything about who he was or where he came from; his only mission to protect his, now, other half. When a student (Seto Kaiba) kidnapped Yuugi’s grandfather over an exclusive card, Yuugi rushed to his aid and Atem stepped forward to duel him.

His victory over Seto got him noticed by one Pegasus Crawford, the creator of Duel Monsters. He sent a tape to Yuugi’s home, though it was really a trap; when Atem failed to beat him in a duel within the time limit, Pegasus took Yuugi’s grandfather’s soul and gave them no choice but to participate in his tournament to get it back. The battles there were tough on their own, Atem meeting new faces and challenges; though one of his biggest was against, once again, Seto Kaiba. Seto’s brother had been kidnapped and the brunet was after victory. The only way he’d been told he’d get Mokuba back was by dueling Yuugi.

In this duel, Atem had the upper hand; however, Seto being determined to win threatened suicide. Atem weighed his choices for a moment before deciding that he could not lose- ever. He called an attack which Yuugi immediately pulled back from; a gap was formed between the two partners, Yuugi afraid of the spirit, and Atem sorely upset over his rash decision. This was only resolved through a long talk and their friends showing faith in both of them.

The last duel of the tournament was particularly stressful, Pegasus using his own Sennen item against the duo to cheat and read their minds. They decided to split up, each dueling on their own; it was then that Pegasus instated a Shadow Game, and Yuugi, being too weak to stand against such forces, quickly perished. This shocked Atem’s entire being, thinking he’d lost his partner. He vowed vengeance on Pegasus, finally beating him and helping Yuugi stand strong once more. The two became closer than ever after that moment.

After the defeat of Pegasus, a young boy by the name of Otogi was extremely upset; thinking Yuugi had ruined his only chance at releasing his game. He threatened Yuugi’s grandfather’s shop by opening his own game shop. To this, their best friend Jonouchi stepped in to try and help, but quickly lost against Otogi. Once more Atem accepted the challenge; not knowing the game placed in front of him, but going forward anyway, determined to help both his friend and Yuugi’s grandfather. It was here that he proved his tact and wit, his ability to integrate into any game placed in front of him. He beat Otogi at his own game, and they soon became friends afterwards.

Soon after that, a new evil targeted Yuugi and the Pharaoh; stealing the puzzle away from Yuugi as the boy was walking to school. Though the man that challenged him to that duel ran away, he smashed the puzzle and set the warehouse on fire accidentally. Yuugi fought to get his spirit out safe and sound, but to no avail. It was only when his friends showed up that he was able to get out alive. Atem became scared that he would only hurt Yuugi by sharing his destiny with him, feeling guilty for what had happened. Yuugi quickly reassured his partner that they were in this together.

It was after that that Yuugi set Atem up on a mock-date with his friend, Anzu, believing that getting out and seeing the world would help the spirit. Though Atem was completely distant the entire day, not finding anything of interest except shopping for cards. His mind was on other things, constantly contemplating who he was and what his destiny would reveal. It was only then that the two were led to the Egyptian museum, where a woman named Ishizu came to greet the Pharaoh welcome.

She started to explain some things about his destiny, and it was there that he realized he was a Pharaoh in ancient Egypt many years ago. Though this information didn’t truly shock him, he recounted that he knew he’d always been somewhat aware, if not of his lineage than his fate. Ishizu told him to enter Seto’s newest tournament, because only by doing so would he be able to get the items he needed to face his destiny once more.

That night, he watched over Yuugi, having a deep conversation with the other. It was explained that Yuugi didn’t want the Pharaoh to feel alone, even going as far as to exclaim that if Atem could never regain his memories, he would share his own. This warmed Atem, making him realize their bond was stronger than ever, and that he would never be alone. It was then that he knew his destiny was not far out of reach, and one day he would be able to face it; so long as he had his friends to rely on.

While they he dueled his way to the top, this time encountering new faces and perils, he continually came into contact with a man named Malik. Malik was after him, having cursed the Pharaoh for handing his family such a terrible fate. They were tomb keepers, destined to watch over the Pharaoh until his return. Atem wasn’t sure what to make of that at first, but the more Malik threatened to hurt his friends and acted out against him, the more his anger rose.

During a duel with one of Malik’s puppets and gets locked into a very desperate situation. Facing down a God card and an almost unbeatable strategy, he falls to his knees feeling utterly trapped and helpless. It was then that Seto appeared, glaring him down, declaring that if he were to give up then, he was not worthy as an opponent. They exchanged a few words, one particular set that made Atem realize that the Gods were not unbeatable. After he finished off the puppet, he went off with Seto to go save his friends.

They were stopped by another set of minions, trapping the two into a double battle. This battle was rather precarious, staged on the top of a building; whoever should lose would plummet to their death below. Seto and Atem didn’t work well together at first, which irked Atem- he saw no reason to be so distant when their very lives depended on battle. The brunet shirked him and continued to do as he pleased. Though Atem did wear him down, appealing to his common sense, and Seto went as far as sacrificing his prized monster to help Atem out of a bind.

Once the successfully moved from that duel, they flew to where Yuugi’s friends were being held captive. Jonouchi and Anzu had been taken under mind control by Malik, and Yuugi was forced to duel his friend. Though Atem tried to step into this, Yuugi warned him off, saying that he had to face this alone. During this duel, Atem became very wary of his partner’s choice, though he trusted the younger- even when Yuugi went as far as to hand the puzzle over to Jonouchi.

This duel, of course, ended in success; and the group headed off to face down the finals of the tournament. The first battle of which happened to be Atem taking on the spirit of the Sennen Ring. Bakura had a strategy to defeat the Pharaoh, though Atem outsmarted him and was able to summon his God card. Bakura switched with his host, attempting to appeal to Atem’s softer side in not wanting to hurt his friends. Again he was faced with the aspect of losing everything in front of him; straining to figure out what was right and wrong.

Luckily, Bakura took over for his host, taking the brunt of the attack in the end. After that, Jonouchi took his turn to duel, disastrous at best, and difficult for Atem to watch. After which Malik was finally revealed to the group, a much darker and insane evil than any of them could have ever imagined. Mai Kujaku went next, though her duel was rather miserable. In the end she got herself trapped, facing down one of the Gods, and about to be killed. Atem stepped into the duel, using himself as a physical shield to take the brunt of the attack- in no way wanting any of his friends to become harmed.

After the next duel between Seto and Ishizu, which ended in a loss for the woman, she handed over her Sennen Item to the Pharaoh, saying it no longer would work for her and that it belonged in his hands. She then asked him to save her brother, to which he sounded a resounding affirmative. Soon following those events, the ship was hijacked by an unknown presence, though later revealed to be the Big 5 headed by Noah Kaiba. They declared war on the young duelists, separating them and dueling them for control of their bodies.

The entire time, Atem worried about his friends, particularly the weaker of the bunch. He knew they didn’t stand a chance on their own and that fueled his anger and passion to break free from this world. Noah faced down Kaiba, nearly losing and deciding on freezing him. This enraged Atem and the spirit stepped in Seto’s place to finish the duel with a meager 100 life points. Though he was furious with the younger boy for acting so maliciously, and intent on teaching him a lesson. Though for a few moments he panicked, nearly losing, he never gave up and won out against the younger child.

In the end of it all, Kaiba faced down his father and crashed the virtual world and the tournament was slated to continue. The four left participated in a mock duel to see who would go first and against whom. Jonouchi was targeted by Malik and Seto simultaneously. Atem tried to help the best that he could, not wanting his friend to get hurt or go up against either opponent but not having a choice in the matter.

The order was decided, Malik VS. Jonouchi and Atem VS. Seto. The first duel was rather brutal, Atem having a tough time watching; ending in Jonouchi’s close demise. After losing his friend Atem panicked, realizing that his friends were getting hurt one by one because of him. Yuugi tried to console the spirit, but nothing worked; the depression deep-set. It was only by a reminder of Jonouchi’s spirit that Atem bucked up, heading out to face Seto.

That duel was magnificent, having the Gods face against themselves which ended in the world shaking, people on the edge of their seats. Through it all insults and remarks were thrown from both sides of the field, but Atem came out victorious as always; having something to prove, his friends to save, and a destiny to figure out. Losing was never an option. He then faced off against Malik who played by less than reputable means, putting Yuugi’s life on the line. Atem once more panicked, knowing that he could very well lose Yuugi in this duel, but his partner pushed him on, encouraging him the whole way. The only problem was, with every blow struck by Atem, Malik was losing more of his own life. This kept pushing into Atem’s mind what was right and wrong where losing was considered; if taking a life was alright when it meant saving so many.

Though once again his choice was deterred as he turned the tables on the spirit inhabiting Malik’s body. Instead of killing Malik, he sentenced the spirit to death, and Malik forfeited the duel soon after. After that, Malik revealed to Atem his destiny, carved upon his skin and told the Pharaoh what it was he had to do to regain his memories. The Sennen Rod and God cards were handed over to his possession and they went home.

The God cards were stolen soon after, however, and Yuugi and Atem set off to retrieve them. A new evil seemed to have caught their attention, seeking vengeance against Atem once more. Though this battle was particularly hard; during one of the duels with one of the henchmen, Atem was bolstered into using the very evil he was facing. Though his partner begged him not to do so, he refused to listen; failure heavy on his mind and refusing to lose. It ended up being his downfall, and as he was soon to be taken away and punished for his crimes, Yuugi stepped into his place saying that he believed in his other self.

Atem nearly lost his mind over this, swearing that he would get his partner back no matter what it took. Though the depression settled into his very being; he became nearly lifeless, droning about and regretting about losing Yuugi. It was only after he met up with Yuugi’s spirit and beat him that he realized he had to get his act together, it would have been the only way to save his partner. That was easier said than done, however; as his friends started to fall one by one to this evil, kicking him back more and more.

He teamed up with Seto once more at the final hour, and Seto risked his very soul to make sure Atem could win the battle. All alone, Atem nearly gave up- thinking this was it for him. His friends were gone, he’d failed to save every single one of them; and as Dartz spoke to him, trying to warp his mind, he finally realized that he would never be alone. His friends would always be there to help him; if only in spirit. He pulled himself together, making a victorious comeback and saving his friends.

They become very determined to start their final journey, to unlock the secrets of Atem’s past. Though Atem laments that he’s caused a terrible amount of damage to Yuugi’s life, to which Yuugi tells him to cheer up. They begin to make plans of going home and finally unsealing Atem’s memory. However a nick in their plan is found when they see that they have no way home back to Japan. Luckily for them, Mokuba shows up and offers them a ride with only one favor in mind- to participate in his brother’s new tournament.

With no other way, they agree. Though Atem is placed at the head of the pack; not having to duel anyone except the one person who makes it all the way to the top. During that final battle against a young boy named Leon, he faces a terrible strategy; a special card that has been altered to prevent being won out against. Despite being given this information, Atem refuses to give up, and when Leon tries to throw the match, Atem tells him not to. He tells Leon to keep fighting no matter what, even if it looks like defeat for the other party. It takes Atem time to think of several strategies, going through each one meticulously until he finally gets one right.

Finally after that, they head to the museum, ready to unlock Atem’s past and return his destiny to his own hands. As he faces down the stone tablet with the three God cards, his soul becomes separated from Yuugi and sent back into his original body- Pharaoh Atem. He wakes up in the middle of a meeting with his Sacred Court, though even there he still has no idea what’s going on. His memories haven’t been restored after all, and everything is very confusing. Though he becomes very curious, acting the role that’s been imposed to him; the story quickly unfolds, showing that the Thief King Bakura is out for his blood.

Bakura’s motives quickly anger Atem with his blatant disrespect and disregard for human life. Atem chases the thief, only to be completely overpowered by a scheme set up by the Priest Akhenaden. However, Yuugi and friends finally make it to the scene, holding Atem up and giving him that boost of confidence he needed. But cheating seems to be fair play even here, as time is turned back, and Yuugi ripped away from the Pharaoh.

After this, Atem wakes up to realize he’s sitting in front of a game board with Bakura at the helm. It’s quickly explained that Bakura is planning on reviving Zorc, and this “Memory World RPG” is the final setting for such a thing. They battle furiously, Atem all the while trying to figure things out little by little, and trying to stop Bakura from releasing the evil. Though this plan keeps getting thwarted, Bakura seeming to have the upper hand most of the time. Finally, he does manage to revive Zorc; and as despair hits Atem, he realizes now is not the time to give up.

He bands together with his High Priest, Seth, and Yuugi; using first Seth’s help to garner more power and together he and Yuugi summon the most powerful monster of light to seal Zorc. It was impossible to do this before, as Atem was alone- but figuring out now, he had his friends to help him, nothing was impossible. The game lost, Bakura thoroughly defeated; he finally realizes his destiny complete, his name, and his lesson.

It is then brought to his attention that he must travel back to where he belongs; to rest in the afterlife with his friends and family after having traveled through so much. It is said that he must be set free, and though Jonouchi offers to duel him, Yuugi says that they have to duel each other. This battle is particularly hard on both occupants; Atem relying a little too hard on his God cards becoming a crutch that Yuugi quickly disables.

As they wait for the final blow, Atem looks absolutely terrified, and Yuugi finally takes him down; falling to his knees in tears. Atem goes to him, reassuring him that this is what fate had in store for him, that it is his time to go, and not to cry over him. After all, this is not a loss; they’d shared so many times together. Yuugi dries his eyes as the rest of his friends begin to realize they are about to lose the spirit. As the doors open, Atem seems panicked, though his friends call out to him and he is finally able to smile; encouraging them that this isn’t goodbye, and that they will always be friends- he gives them a thumbs up as he resumes his place in the afterlife to rest peacefully.

Head Canon for Egypt

As we are not given a lot of information about Atem’s past, aside from seeing him already on the throne and a few scarce flashbacks from when he was a child, I’ve provided a history for him.

From very early on in his life, Atem was quite the starry-eyed, joyful and friendly child. He was adventurous and mischievous, often doing things he was deemed “not allowed” to simply because of his royal blood. This did not deter or stop him, however, and he often went out to play with his friends Mahaad or Mana whenever he could.

For all that he learned from his father, it is his mother we see least of in the series. There are a lot of qualities that are easily distinguishable that he would have picked up from someone not bred in their lands. As the Egyptian hierarchy usually married from other countries (as to continue to royal blood line), his mother was most likely royalty from a different land. It was from her that Atem has an instilled notion of right and wrong as well as the notion of no man being better or less than another.

As his father would have taught him pride, nobility, and started to teach him logic and smarts, his mother would have taught him the kindness, love, and devotion we see in the young child. She also may have been attributed to his wily spirit. I’ve often painted the picture that because Egypt is so sweltering underneath the light of Ra, she had a garden imported and it was her and Atem’s favorite place to be together. His love of earth comes from this, as well as not being afraid to get his hands dirty.

At the time when his father started to realize the wrongs he’d caused by allowing the destruction of Kul Elna, he started to pull away from Atem. This made Atem wary, upset, perhaps feeling a little abandoned. The King took his life in repentance, not before begging the Gods to let his son be, though. This would mark the first time Atem had seen his father cry, and it made him do so as well- not only scared, but confused and knowing something was wrong. The palace would never tell the young prince that the King had in fact killed himself, this is a fact Atem still does not know to this day. He believes his father passed away in grief.

It was after that that he had to take the throne, too young and not quite ready. He was anxious, and even though his people loved and respected him, they were unsure of his ability. This only spurred on feelings of inadequacy in the young Pharaoh. It should also be noted at this time that his mother would have had to remarry to the Pharaoh, to keep the bloodline going. Though this was something that Egyptians would not bat an eyelash to, she knew it might have ruined her son. So the night of the coronation, she took her life to spare her son from having to take his own mother in marriage. This has damaged Atem to this day, losing one parent and then the next and being put in a position of power all too soon.

It was here that he really started to rely on his chosen Sacred Court for help, mostly the Priest, Mahaad, Isis, and his best friend Mana. These people really believed in Atem’s strength and tried his hardest not to let the young King fall to the wayside.

He tried to keep his father’s reign of peace, even if the Court pushed for war or violent actions, he would deny, saying there was always an alternate route. Though when pushed hard enough and enough people suffering, he would lead his people into war. It was here that he caused the most trouble for his Court, as instead of sitting back and instructing his warriors to go put their lives on the line; he would march valiantly into battle with them. He has skill on horseback (as that was primary travel back then) and is even seen having the ability to wield a sword to protect himself.

Personality

Atem has learned a great deal over the years, and every piece of information he’s learned or lived through has served to make him quite the multi-faceted character. Through his experience in Egypt he has picked up kindness, loyalty, and a calm level headed mind; as well as logic, strength and his ever appearing nobility. A King to his country, and a tried friend to all, he learned that ruling wasn’t as easy as his father made it look and he found strength from his friends and Sacred Court alike in trying to watch over his Kingdom.

Because of his connection with his people, he has a respect for all humans, even going as far as to claim he would destroy the class system when he became Pharaoh (shown when he was saved from a snake bite by Mahaad and subsequently sucked the poison out of his friend's arm). He felt that no man should be placed at a higher or lesser value than any other- and to this day that notion stands. As a spirit, he might have lost his way with it, and sometimes can appear very crass or cruel, but Yuugi has helped him back on his path. He is willing to give everyone a chance, though if someone persists to push their luck, they will get ousted very quickly. He is one who seeks redemption, not only for himself but for everyone.

However, if someone has done something terrible or awful in his eyes, he is likely to toss them aside and be done with them. If they pursue him after that they will get nothing but a cruel and cold attitude. This comes from dealing with people who have shown to be not who they appeared, and it is a sort of protective stance for him. Betrayal never comes easy, and if he feels someone is untrustworthy, he'll keep a very close eye on them.

Being locked away for three-thousand years took its toll on him quite harshly. In the beginning, when he was released as a spirit, he was quite insane and malicious. He often enjoyed in torturing people in something called a Yami no Game, and watching them burn. Though it should be noted that these games were not unwinnable. In fact, one of the greatest things people overlook is the fact that these games could easily be turned on their side if the player would realize it for what it was. Atem playing these games would pit the player against their greatest weakness. So it could almost be said that every time he played a game, he was looking for someone worthy, someone to finally beat the system (and by extension their own flaw) and prove him wrong. But, in essence, knowing how the human mind works, he really wasn't expecting anyone to. He was often extremely cruel, going so far as to paraphrase rules in order to get them to misunderstand. Some games didn't need paraphrasing and were simply unbelievably difficult on their own.

It took a long while after that for him to even out, but that insane attitude is easily surfaced when he is feeling isolated and backed into a corner (especially if completely without Yuugi to help him). It is at this point that he will lash out at anyone around him. For all he does shoving people away though, he has learned that friendship is something that is needed to exist in this world, and he perishes without it.

Because of this knowledge, he is friendly, most of the time- though very gauging. When he first will meet someone, the smile is there, but his brain is never turned off. He analyzes everything, usually to the point of fault. This is his greatest strength and weakness. His mind is always working, trying to figure things out, trying to work up a logical point for anything and anyone. When he thinks too much, he can actually become haughty and a know-it-all though once proven wrong he knows how to apologize. Even in knowing doesn’t make it any easier, though.

Atem is not usually easily provoked to anger, however if someone knows the right buttons, he flies off the handle rather quickly. He isn’t above lashing out and harming someone he has deemed as trouble. When given a situation where someone is insulting him or someone else, he’ll usually mark it off and retort with witty remarks, knowing that anger is what the other is looking for. However, if physical nature is brought into it, he will hesitate- if against himself, if he is witness to someone else being harmed, he will step in.

One of his greatest weakness is his almost non-ability to function on his own. He’s gotten so used to having friends, family, and loved ones by his side that when he is alone and realizes how lonely he is, he gets depressed. He is friendly by nature, and operates best with other people by his side. Though this is not to say that he can’t live alone. He can, and has done so for quite some time. But his preferred environment is with friends.

To people he has befriended, he is almost always seen as cheery, smiling, and happy around them. He retains quite a peaceful and calm way of mind most of the time, especially with those he likes. He's extremely loyal, and will risk himself to save others if necessary (as shown in Battle City when he jumped in front of Ra's attack without thinking to save Jonouchi and Mai). He is not self-serving (most of the time) and will always try to lend a helping hand to those in need. For all that he has seen, though, he recognizes that there is even more to do and learn, and through this he is always willing to go out and live life, to experience, and to have an adventure.

For everything he does know, Atem is very self-assured in a lot of ways. This becomes a problem sometimes as he can become very adamant about certain situations. When this happens, he's very hard to sway or budge, or get him to do anything really. If he feels he can get by on his own, he will, and won't press a situation any further; going as far as to abandon whatever it was that was upsetting him in the first place. Though this is seen in situations and with objects, it can be applied to people as well.

Atem is extremely smart, to the point of genius one might say, but he doesn’t flaunt it unless he’s feeling particularly arrogant. This is worsened sometimes by the fact that he has a very tall order of pride. He retains information and uses it against people if the situation calls for it, and he is an excellent strategist. This is how he had come by the title “King of Games”. Once learning the way a game operates, he is able to conquer it within mere hours of tinkering. It is an ability that comes naturally to him.

Appearance

Basic Appearance

Atem is five feet, six inches tall- that is with his hair up, and wearing his usual boots with two inch heels. His hair is the most noticeable thing about him, being multi-colored; deep-red outlined, black centered, and blonde lightening bolt shaped bangs. His hair sticks out at different angles, forming triangles, for the most part; and his bangs piece through his hair forming definite spikes, as well as a few pieces hanging in his face.

Atem has sharp facial features, noticed mostly in comparison to Yuugi’s whose face is much softer than Atem’s own. His eyes are crimson in color, evidenced by his appearances in Egypt (though only sometimes), and in Zero Season when they were colored this way. He is no longer sun-kissed, but does tan very well and rather easily. His eyes are also easily noted by their outline of Kohl which always seems to be present. It was fashionable (and necessary) in Egypt to wear make up such as that, and he sees no reason to discontinue it.

He is not overly muscular, but has been known to pack well-toned biceps, abs and a soft outline of a six-pack. He’s very lean even with this, limbs almost being lanky in appearance; also having slender fingers to complete that lengthy look. One might also notice his shapely hips, certainly not afraid in the least of showing off a little feminine quality.

Style of Clothing

His body shape and care is so pronounced because of the style he chooses to wear. Where in Egypt he would wear free flowing clothes (kilts, capes, and tunics), in a new era and style he is more confined. As such he’s seen quite often wearing confining leathers, belts, chains, collars, wrist bands, arm bands, and anything else he might deem to be fashionable.

Other In movement he’s extremely graceful, thanks to his long limbs (And yet still retaining a short appearance, though if questioned on it, he doesn’t mind at all. He was normal height for Egyptians three thousand years ago, after all), his stride is one of pride, head usually always held up and eyes level. Sometimes it can be said that he wears his emotion in his stance. When angered he becomes stilted, not as peaceful (as seen in the heat of duels where he becomes absolutely rigid). When sad, his head is almost certainly tilted down, not wanting to meet the eyes of any other; as well as the bow of his spine become a little more pronounced, his stance lax, shoulders dropped (as seen in most of the Orichalcos season).

Generally, though, he’s usually seen smiling, if not brooding or puzzling over something; or smirking if something has caught his eye or he’s feeling particularly challenged.
If he's caught alone or in a thoughtful mood, it should be noted that his eyes will carry a quality of longing. He's seen a lot of the world, a lot of hurt and pain, a lot of love and freedom; and at times his eyes seem to contain the world, distant and forever. Though if he catches someone looking he'll immediately revert to a smile and a shrug.
