What did the first Nike campus look like? Phil Knight’s parents’ basement and 300 pairs of shoes stacked in a corner. It took decades of growth — selling sneakers out of a van to scattered offices across Portland — to get to a bigger question: What should a global headquarters look like? "We wanted a campus atmosphere because everybody is a junior in college at heart," Knight told the Department of Nike Archives. "We wanted a place where you could get your work done, but also a place you wanted to be." Now known as the Philip H. Knight Campus, Nike’s world headquarters spans 400-plus acres and is packed with only-at-Nike spaces and features.
