Nickle Electrical Companies is proud to announce that, in partnership with TopWorkplaces.com, we have been recognized as a 2026 Culture Excellence and Industry Awards winner.

These awards highlight organizations that prioritize strong workplace culture and employee experience, something we’ve always believed is at the core of long-term success.

Recognized for Excellence

Nickle was honored across multiple categories, earning distinction as a Top Workplace for:

Innovation

Leadership

Purpose & Values

Employee Appreciation

Professional Development

Employee Well-Being

Construction Industry Excellence

Driven by employee feedback, these awards provide a genuine and meaningful reflection of the employee experience and what it truly means to be part of the Nickle team.

As one employee shared:

“This company embraces vision, technology, and safety. Management continuously looks forward on how to advance the capabilities of the organization, the people involved, and how to reinvest or be generous with profits.”

That forward-thinking approach continues to shape how we grow, both as a company and as individuals.

A Workplace Built on People

At Nickle, we believe our people are our greatest asset. Creating an environment where employees feel heard, valued, and empowered is central to who we are.

“I have the ability to bring my ideas to the table and implement them in day-to-day activities. Also, the team we have built – it’s like a second family.”

That sense of collaboration and connection is what defines the Nickle experience and drives our continued success.

Continuing to Raise the Standard

While we’re proud of this recognition, we also see it as motivation to keep improving. We remain committed to strengthening our culture, investing in our team, and continuing to set the standard in the electrical and construction industry.

At Nickle Electrical Companies, we know that supporting our people is just as important as the work we do. That’s exactly where our Sunshine Committee comes in, a team dedicated to strengthening connections within our company while making a positive difference beyond our job sites.

This committee is guided by a simple but powerful purpose: to support our team’s morale, recognize the moments that matter, and give back to our communities. In 2026, they’re bringing that goal to life through 12 Acts of Kindness, a year-long campaign focused on giving back, spreading joy, and making a difference.

Let’s dive into what they do, who they are, and what’s to come.

What is Nickle’s Sunshine Committee?

At its core, the Sunshine Committee exists to make life a little brighter, both within our company and beyond it.

“The Sunshine Committee’s mission is to support the morale and well-being of the employees of Nickle Electrical Companies while simultaneously establishing community rapport.“

They focus on organizing acts of kindness throughout the year that support our employees, local organizations, community causes, and individuals in need. These efforts may include community outreach, donations, volunteer opportunities, or simple gestures of appreciation.

Work is more than just completing tasks; it’s about being part of a team where people feel seen, supported, and appreciated through every high and low. Whether it’s through a friendly gesture, a heartfelt celebration, or an act of service, the Sunshine Committee is here to uplift, connect, and support the people around us.

The People Behind the Committee

Made up of employees from across Nickle Electrical, the Sunshine Committee represents our shared commitment to teamwork, compassion, and service. Behind every act of kindness is a dedicated group of employees who make it happen, serving as the driving force behind the moments that bring people together and extend Nickle’s impact beyond the workplace. Together, they identify meaningful opportunities where time and resources can make a difference, both internally and within the community.

In 2026, the Sunshine Committee includes Samantha Windle, Taylor Burden, Lisa Houston, Jenny Yoder, Jen Thompson, Kevin Gates, Zoey Romano, Erika Newton, Maria Trujillo Hernandez, Kelly Arentzen, and Shelby Stansell.

12 Acts of Kindness – A Year of Giving Back

This year, the Sunshine Committee is introducing an initiative centered on impact and connection: 12 Acts of Kindness. Each month, the committee will focus on one act of kindness that supports a local organization, a community cause, or initiatives within our company. These monthly acts allow us to stay engaged year-round while creating consistent opportunities for involvement and impact.

Updates, photos, and reflections will be shared along the way to highlight the collective effort behind each act and celebrate the difference being made together.

Through the Sunshine Committee and their 12 Acts of Kindness, Nickle Electrical remains committed to building stronger communities, supporting those in need, and fostering a culture rooted in care, connection, and giving back.

On September 16, fourth-year Apprentice Andrew Antinora came in first place at the ABC Delaware Craft Championship and will now move on to the ABC National Craft Championship.

The Craft Championship is a national competition that brings together the best skilled tradespeople to demonstrate their superior skills in the industry.

In August, Nickle hosted its first annual Craft Championships where seven third and fourth-year Apprentices competed in a written and hands-on skills test to determine who would move on to the state competition. The hands-on portion required the Apprentices to complete various residential panel and lighting wiring.

Andrew Antinora and third-year Apprentice Adrian Cosgrove came out on top and both competed at the state level against Apprentices from other local electrical contractors.

State winner Andrew Antinora said he was a little nervous going into the Nickle event. “I wasn’t totally sure what to expect but I was also eager to get on the tools and start the skills test,” he said. On his favorite part of the competition: “Just being around the whole Nickle crew and hanging out with friends and coworkers,” he said. “I also really enjoyed having my wife there to cheer me on.”

Along with the written test proctored by Director of Commercial Construction Randy Spencer, there were employees who volunteered as judges for the hands-on portion at Nickle’s event. Service Foreman Mike Frieze, Layout Foreman Luis Rivera, Service Foreman Ryan Wade, Safety Director Paul Woodland, and Estimator Dietrich Yontz scored the competitors on aspects such as following the provided drawings, using correct dimensions, overall appearance of the job, performing the job safely, and more. Foreman Mike Frieze, a 25-year Nickle Elite, competed in the State and National Craft Championship back in 2001. ABC Delaware President Ed Capodanno was present and he commended the organizers and competitors. “The competition went flawlessly,” he said. “I am happy to have been able to witness the craftsmanship and quality of work done by your apprentices.”

Nickle’s first annual event was put together by Chief Operating Officer Jeromy Newton, Project Manager Brandon Cale, Service Manager Jonathan Harrison, and Project Manager Kevin Woodland. “It was an exciting challenge organizing our first annual Nickle Craft Championship, and it made it truly worthwhile seeing how much our apprentices enjoyed the competition,” said Brandon Cale.

Andrew Antinora will compete in the 35th Annual National Craft Championship in Kissimmee, Florida in March 2024.

Vice President of Operations Jeromy Newton was sworn in as Chairman for the Associated Builders & Contractors Delaware Chapter. He has served on the board for four years and will lead the organization in his fifth year.

“I’m extremely passionate about the merit shop philosophy and the standards ABC upholds,” Newton said. “I look forward to working with all our committees and our members to make 2023 a very productive year for our companies and our organization.”

ABC is a national construction industry trade association founded on the merit shop philosophy. The organization helps its members “win work and deliver that work safely, ethically and profitability for the betterment of the communities in which ABC and its members work.”

Some of Newton’s initiatives as Chairman include membership growth, continued development with the organization’s young professionals’ group, bringing back the Craft Championship, further meetings with legislators to promote the merit philosophy and free enterprise, and more.

“Jeromy brings great passion and leadership to our organization,” said ABC Delaware President Ed Capodanno. “He is a well-respected construction professional that will help us grow ABC Delaware statewide through quality training programs, membership growth, and safe worksites. We are excited to have him as our chair in 2023 and the continued support that Nickle Electrical Companies have provided our association over the years.”

Newton is the second Nickle employee to serve as ABC Delaware Chairman, as President/CEO Steve Dignan held the spot in 2001.

Take a stroll down memory lane as we review news, successes, milestones, and celebrations at Nickle Electrical over the past 12 months.

Safety Manager Paul Woodland and Safety Specialist Greg Hudson accept the ABC Chesapeake Shores STEP Award from Chairman Jeff Ferguson

Safety

Earlier this year, Paul Woodland was promoted to Safety Manager and is now successfully working alongside Nickle Safety Specialist Greg Hudson. Both ABC Chesapeake Shores and ABC Delaware awarded Nickle a STEP (Safety Training and Evaluation Process) award for outstanding efforts in relation to safety throughout the year. Nickle received the top award at the Diamond level from both chapters. Chesapeake Shores also recognized Nickle with a chapter safety award. The Delaware Contractors Association recognized Nickle for the 8th year in a row for its safety efforts with the Governors Safety Award. The honor is co-sponsored by DCA and the Delaware Department of Labor. Nickle has continued to utilize the EHS Insight software that was implemented last year. It is a cloud-based safety system that allows the company to go paperless and keep track of records electronically, including Toolbox Talks, job site safety inspections, incident reports, and more. The software program also contains an online training module where employees can take classes and renew expired training requirements. Paul, Greg, and the Nickle Safety Committees designed a program for 2019 that would recognize all employees who stay 100% up-to-date on all safety training in the EHS system called the Green Donut Club. This is a reference to the green circle that employees’ training status shows in the system. Those who attain and maintain 100% over each quarter is welcomed into the club and their name is put into a drawing for a prize.

Additional Training

One of Nickle’s top priorities is to focus on furthering the education of its employees. In addition to all the safety training required of every employee, there were classes focused on pipe bending, blueprint reading, fire alarm, business writing, team building, and much more.

Top Workplace

For the third year in a row, Nickle was awarded a Top Workplaces honor by The News Journal. The list is based on results from an anonymous employee feedback survey revolving around alignment, execution, and connection within the organization. In addition to attaining the No. 1 spot in the mid-sized company category, the newspaper published an article about the achievement.

ENR Top Specialty Contractor

Engineering News-Record Magazine named Nickle Electrical Companies to its annual national Top 600 Specialty Contractors List at #497, up 17 spots from last year.

Volunteerism

A goal set forth by the Nickle team was to participate in at least three volunteer events within the community during 2019. This year’s events included making and serving dinner for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, rebuilding the putt-putt course at Easter Seals Delaware, and separating food for those in need at the Food Bank of Delaware. Click here to check out the awesome time-lapse video of the Easter Seals project.

Community Outreach

In addition to employees’ hands-on volunteerism within the community, Nickle is happy to support organizations in the area through sponsorships and monetary donations. Some groups Nickle assisted this year include NAWIC, Milton Chamber of Commerce, Milton Fire Department, Gladys Wilkins Seeding the Future Scholarship Fund, ACE Mentor Program, Delaware Hospice, Delaware Technical Community College, Boardwalk Buddy Walk Fund, The Music School of Delaware, Children’s Beach House, Little Sisters of the Poor, and more. For the fourth year in a row, Nickle and its employees raised money for the Friends of Delaware Veterans Trust Fund. The fund assists veterans with financial emergencies. Nickle matched dollar for dollar what employees contributed, this year totaling $5,760.

Employee News

Nickle takes pride in celebrating the personal achievements of its employees. Some of the milestones in 2019 included the birth of 5 babies/grand babies, one engagement, and 10 employees graduating from either the state apprenticeship program or another higher level of education. Executive Assistant Carol Cole also celebrated a milestone in 2019 – on August 8, she reached 25 years of service with the company. Nickle also recognized three employees as the “Top Dog” at 2019’s breakfast meetings – Accounting Administrator Kelly Cale, Service Management Assistant Jenny Yoder, and Project Management Assistant Lisa Houston were the recipients. In May, Benjamin Jezyk was recognized by ABC Delaware for outstanding academic achievement at St. George’s Technical High School and successful completion of a co-op program. He has since graduated and is now enrolled in the state apprenticeship program. In July, Mechanic Shane Palmer passed the Master Electrician Exam.

Pre-Fabrication

This year there was great growth in the Nickle pre-fab shop. Road Supervisor Lee Devine, with the help of Steve Zlock and plenty of field electricians, has dedicated a lot of time to improving efficiencies and streamlining processes to ensure delivery of a high-quality project that is on schedule and under budget. Some of the jobs that utilized pre-fab this year include Lodge at Truitt Homestead, Aloft Hotel, Delaware Air National Guard, Adesis, and more.

Road Supervisor Lee Devine in the pre-fab shop

Elite Gala

In November, Nickle hosted its biennial Elite Gala where the organization recognized employees for years of service. Those who have been with the company for five or more years are part of the coveted Nickle Elite. We had a great time celebrating at Dover Downs with food, drinks, networking, photographs, live entertainment, and more. Check out our Facebook page for more pictures from the event.

Notable Projects

While four Nickle projects were recognized by ABC, there were many other successful projects completed by employees in 2019. Beebe Medical Center EP Lab is a new cardiac catheterization lab within Beebe Hospital; the Food Bank of Delaware opened it new 80,000-square-foot location in Newark; Apparel & Advanced Textiles was a complete office fit-out for the apparel-focused fiber and brand business; Residence of Chadds Ford Senior Living was construction of a new four-story, 92,000-square-foot senior living facility; and many more.

Christ the Redeemer

The statue was built between 1922 and 1931 at the peak of the Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Construction started after the Catholic Circle of Rio proposed building a landmark statue, then collected donations and supporting signatures from locals. It stands 98 feet high, with a 26-foot pedestal, and spans 92 feet from fingertip to fingertip.

Weighing 635 metric tons, the pedestal is made of reinforced concrete and the statue itself is of soapstone. It cost approximately $250,000 in its time, equivalent to about $3.5 million today, and opened on October 12, 1931.

Restoration and maintenance have taken place over the years due to vandalism, lightning strikes, strong winds, and erosion. Escalators, walkways, elevators, and light fixtures have been added in recent years and in 2006, a chapel was dedicated for Catholics to hold baptisms and weddings on site.

Christ the Redeemer attracts tourists from all over the world and is a religious and cultural symbol in Brazil. It is listed as one of the New7Wonders of the World.

Sydney Opera House

This performing arts center in Sydney, Australia opened on October 20, 1973 – 10 years behind schedule and 1000+% over budget. The building covers more than four acres of land. It sits on almost 600 concrete piers installed 82 feet below sea level and at its highest point, it’s equivalent to being as tall as a 22-story building.

The building houses multiple concert venues, a recording studio, restaurants, retail outlets, and cafes. It hosts more than 1,500 performances each year. The opera house is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Australia with more than 8 million visitors annually, well-recognized by the multiple “shells” that form its roof.

Danish architect Jørn Utzon entered an international competition to design the opera house and his proposal was selected in 1957, beating out more than 200 entries. Construction began in 1959, however scheduling, costs, design changes, setbacks, and collaboration issues ultimately resulted in Utzon’s resignation 7 years after construction began. He was not invited to the opening of the building, but in recent years has been recognized for his beautiful design concept, winning the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2003.

The Great Sphinx of Giza

A sphinx is a Greek mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. This landmark, also known as just the Sphinx, sits on the west bank of the Nile River in Egypt next to the Great Pyramid of Giza and is the oldest known monumental sculpture in the country.

It’s believed to have been built around 2500 BC for the pharaoh Khafre, but this has not been confirmed. Other theories link the construction to previous pharaohs and members of Khafre’s family. There are no known inscriptions as to its construction and original purpose.

It’s made of limestone and measures 240-feet long, 66-feet high, and 62-feet wide. The structure previously included a nose and beard, both of which have since been removed or fallen off. Theories about the demise of the nose and beard are also up for debate.

Statue of Liberty

Long representing freedom and independence in America, the Statue of Liberty is located on Liberty Island in New York, facing southeast to greet ships entering the harbor. It was a gift from France dedicated in October 1886. The statue is of Libertas, a robed Roman liberty goddess, holding a torch above her head and carrying a special tablet inscribed with July 4, 1776 in Roman numerals (the date of the United States Declaration of Independence). A shackle and chain also lay at her feet, known to represent the recent abolition of slavery.

Work began on the statue in the early 1870s. The French people financed the statue while the United States built the pedestal. It was built in France, shipped overseas, and the framework was assembled atop the pedestal anchored to steel I-beams. The skin of the statue was then carefully attached by workers who dangled from ropes since the pedestal did not provide enough room to erect scaffolding. Surprisingly, no one died during construction.

Construction on the statue was an early example of “curtain wall construction” thanks to designer and builder Gustave Eiffel. This means that the exterior of the structure is supported by an interior framework. There are two interior spiral staircases so visitors can walk the observation balcony in the crown. Previously, a small ladder allowed visitors to reach a balcony surrounding the torch, however that has been banned since 1916.

The copper statue itself is just over 151 feet tall, but from the ground to the top of the torch is a total of just over 305 feet. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated as a U.S. National monument in 1924 by President Calvin Coolidge.

Photo by Henry Be on Unsplash

Big Ben

Widely known by its nickname “Big Ben,” the bell tower and clock located at the Palace of Westminster in London was originally called the Clock Tower, but in 2012 was renamed Elizabeth Tower. The tower contains five bells with the nickname Big Ben referring to the largest of the five, which weighs 13.5 tons. It tolls on the hour, while the four smaller bells chime at 15, 30, and 45 minutes past the hour.

The tower is 315 feet tall and upon its completion in 1859 was the largest and most accurate chiming clock in the world. It’s made of brick, limestone, and cast iron.

Renovations concluded in late 2021. The chimes rang out for the first time in more than four years on Decemeber 31, 2021 to mark the start of the new year.

The origin of the nickname Big Ben is up for debate – some say its after Sir Benjamin Hall who oversaw its installation while others say its after English heavyweight boxing champion Benjamin Caunt.

Photo by Koen van Engelen on Unsplash

St. Peter’s Basilica

Also known as the Papal Basilica of St. Peter, this icon is an Italian Renaissance church located in Vatican City. It is currently the largest church in the world and is known to be the burial site of Saint Peter, one of Jesus’s apostles and the first Pope.

This basilica replaced the Old St. Peter’s Basilica, which stood from the 4th to 16th centuries, and was completed in November 1626 after more than 100 years of construction. Its construction was done in the shape of a Catholic cross with a long central aisle (nave).

It’s dome stands 448-feet high, 490-feet wide, and 720-feet long. The center dome is one of the largest in the world at 138 feet in diameter.

Photo by Francesca Noemi Marconi on Unsplash

Acropolis of Athens

The Acropolis is a citadel that sits 490 feet above sea level in the city of Athens and encompasses the remains of numerous ancient buildings covering more than 7 acres. Its inhabitants can be traced back to the fourth millennium BC, but in the fifth century BC, Pericles took charge in constructing the acropolis’ most important relics, such as the famous Parthenon, which sits in the middle of the citadel.

Centuries of decay, earthquakes, military damage, erosion, pollution, and other factors have left the acropolis in ruins. Back in the 1970s, the Acropolis Restoration Project began in order to study and rebuild the ancient ruins, though its progress has slowed significantly in recent years.

Photo by Aaron Lee on Unsplash

September 11 Memorial

The somber memorial in New York City commemorates the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, which killed 2,977 people, and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, which killed six people. It’s situated at the former location of the Twin Towers destroyed during the 9/11 attacks.

An international competition opened in April 2003 by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation to design the memorial. In January 2004, Michael Arad of Handel Architects was named the winner over more than 5,000 entries with a design titled Reflecting Absence.

The design consists of white oak trees surrounding two square reflecting pools and waterfalls 30 feet below street level that mark where the towers previously stood. Names of the victims of the attacks, including those from the Pentagon and American Airlines Flight 77, American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 93, United Airlines Flight 175, and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, are inscribed on 152 bronze parapets surrounding the waterfalls.

There is more than 8,000 tons of steel installed at the site. The reflecting pools are topped with a granite coating. Construction costs remained within a $500 million budget, despite original estimated costs of more than $1 billion.

It opened to the public on September 12, 2011 – 10 years and 1 day after the deadly attacks. More than one million people visited the site in just three months after its opening. The September 11 Museum, which sits underground next to the memorial, opened on May 21, 2014 and houses more than 40,000 images, 14,000 artifacts, 3,500 oral recordings, and 500 hours of video memorializing the attacks.

Photo by Justin Wang on Unsplash

Grand Canyon Skywalk

Sitting at an elevation of 4,770 feet is the Grand Canyon Skywalk, a horseshoe-shaped glass bridge that extends over the side of the Grand Canyon. It’s owned by the Hualapai Indian tribe.

To keep the skywalk sturdy, the outer and inner bridge box beams are supported by eight box posts that are anchored into four large concrete footings, which are then anchored to the bedrock with high strength steel threaded rod rock anchors grouted 46 feet deep into the rock. Four layers of low iron glass complete the deck of the walkway and two layers of glass complete the sides, which stand 5-feet 2-inches tall. The total infrastructure of the walkway weighs more than 1 million pounds.

The skywalk was built to withstand an 8.0 magnitude earthquake within 50 miles of the location and can carry 822 people that weigh 200 pounds each, though maximum occupancy is regulated to 120 people at a time.

The project cost was estimated at $30 million and opened to the public in March 2007. Future plans on the site include construction of a museum, lounge, gift shop, restaurants, movie theater, and more.

National Stadium

Located in Singapore, the National Stadium opened in June 2014. It has the world’s largest retractable dome. With automated retractable seating on the lower level, it is the only stadium currently in existence that is custom designed to host football, rugby, cricket, and other athletic events, along with concerts and additional entertainment. Depending on seating configurations, the stadium can seat up to 55,000 people.

The retractable roof of the stadium is made of a lightweight, weather-resistant material called ETFE and takes approximately 25 minutes to open or close.

The National Stadium replaced the former stadium of the same name, which closed in 2007. Due to the 2008 financial crisis, demolition of the old stadium and construction of the new complex didn’t start until 2010.

Whether we like it or not, work is a large part of everyday life. Sometimes because of our busy and demanding schedules, it’s easy to let our health fall to the wayside. But our well-being is intricately tied to our habits, not only at home, but especially at work. Manual laborers, such as those in the construction industry, are incredibly hardworking and experience very intense and stressful work environments. In fact, the National Bureau of Economic Research states that the rate at which health deteriorates with age is faster in manual occupations than in non-manual occupations. So, it’s important to keep these health tips in mind to stay healthy and avoid burnout on the job.

Sleep

Being awake for more than 17 hours cognitively equates to having a blood alcohol level of 0.05. And when you’re awake for more than that, it increases to 0.1. At that point, you might as well be drunk. That lack of sleep affects motor skills, your ability to make sound decisions, and decreases productivity. So make sure you’re going to bed at a reasonable hour and shutting off electronic devices an hour or two ahead of that.

Diet

Our overall well-being relies heavily on the foods we do or don’t consume. Poor planning and busy schedules can lead to quick trips to fast food restaurants or skipped meals altogether. This can result in loss in productivity, detrimental effects to long-term health, and low energy levels. A report by the International Labor Organization states that two-thirds of the American population are overweight and the annual economic cost of obesity to businesses costs about $12.7 billion annually. Fueling your body with proper nutrients can combat all these things. Try to prepare lunch ahead of time and bring it with you, packing fruits, vegetables, healthy carbohydrates, high-fiber and high-protein foods.

Drink Water

Not only is food an important part of a healthy lifestyle, but staying properly hydrated is as well. Drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day is recommended. For those performing manual labor, even more is suggested, especially because most workers are typically working in extreme weather environments and end up sweating more than others.

Exercise

Construction work and manual labor already has you constantly on the move. But exercising regularly and properly will strengthen the right muscles to prevent injuries. Bending, lifting, and climbing can put tremendous stress on the body. Being in shape is the best way to avoid additional strain. Plus, exercise releases endorphins that give you energy, increase productivity, sharpen your focus, and add to the longevity of your life. If you can’t get to the gym, then take the stairs when the opportunity presents itself. Or park far away from your destination to get a few more steps in.

Move Correctly

As already stated, construction work requires you to move your body on a regular basis. A lot of this movement comes in the form of repetitive tasks such as swinging a hammer, hauling heavy loads, pulling wire, laying brick, and painting. These rhythmic movements can cause stress injuries and muscle damage to your knees, shoulders, back, and more over time. Plus, one wrong move can have lasting effects. Make sure you’re performing these tasks properly and taking frequent breaks.

Take A Break

Speaking of breaks, it’s important to stop work and rest occasionally. It’s not healthy to be on the move for all 8+ hours of your workday. Stand up, take walks, and clear your head for a few minutes once every hour or two to prevent burnout. Stretching is also a great practice during break time. Many construction companies implement Stretch & Flex programs to get workers warmed up and ready for the day. Stretching improves posture, energizes your body, and improves circulation. It’s not a bad idea to keep it going throughout the day.

Use Vacation Time

An important part of staying healthy at work is to get your mind off work occasionally. Take advantage of the time off your company allows. Get away. Relax. Recharge. Stress can have a significant impact on your mental and physical health so be sure to minimize it by taking a vacation every once in a while.

Pay attention to your body

It’s important to not ignore your body’s aches and pains. If you’re uncomfortable, there could be something wrong and avoiding the problem could make the situation worse. Speak with a doctor or other health professional about what you’re feeling and how to treat your symptoms. Preventative measures will benefit you in the long run.

Mental health is just as important

Experiencing depression, stress, and anxiety is just as unhealthy as physical ailments. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported that construction workers have the highest rate of male suicide among American workers. Be sure to talk to someone about your feelings. Sometimes just talking through your struggles is enough to release the mental load you may be carrying. Other times, deeper measures can be taken to help.

Stay Positive

Not surprisingly, having a healthy personal life will contribute to a healthy work life. Maintain positive relationships with friends and family, spend time on your favorite hobbies, and focus on the positive aspects of life. When things fall into place in your personal life, it’s easier for them to fall into place while at work.

Wear PPE

This should be a no-brainer in construction. Hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, etc. are essential components to keeping you safe and healthy at work. Avoid preventable accidents by wearing the proper personal protective equipment needed on site. Additionally, keep your body safe and healthy by investing in other gear such as sunscreen, breathable clothing, a winter coat, sweat bands, and hats.

There was a dilapidated course on site in need of an overhaul, so volunteers spent a Friday in May tearing down and disposing of the old course to make way for a brand new 16-foot by 20-foot course with six holes. Volunteers also painted and refurbished the centerpiece of the putt-putt course – Stella the Seahorse.

“It was really great to work together and build camaraderie while also donating time to the greater good of our community,” said Nickle President/CEO Steve Dignan. “We’re happy to have participated in the project so visitors to Easter Seals can enjoy outdoor activities.”

The non-profit organization’s mission is to provide exceptional services, education, outreach, and advocacy so that people living with autism and other disabilities can live, learn, work, and play in our communities.

“We’re so excited about all of [Nickle’s] work,” said Linda Forte, Easter Seals’ community relations coordinator. “What a wonderful gift you have given us. Our participants will enjoy many hours of fun and relaxation on the ‘green,’ creating special memories.”

Representative Ruth Briggs King also stopped by the site to recognize Nickle volunteers. In an email to the team she said the project is an “awesome and appreciated gift to Easter Seals and our community.”
