What is Nexus?
Nexus is Audiotool's projects API, built on Protocol Buffers. It defines every entity and action in the DAW – from devices and cables to patterns, automation, and more. Nexus lets you programmatically create, modify, and analyze Audiotool projects, using the same API that the app uses itself.
What can you build with Nexus?
Nexus enables developers to extend Audiotool in many directions.
Typical use cases include:
- Create & edit MIDI, audio, automation, and device settings
- Analyze projects for signal flow, structure, or performance insights
- Integrate third‑party services such as AI mastering, stem separation, or sample libraries
- Build custom interfaces tailored to your preferred workflow or use case
- Automate workflows with scripts for arranging, mixing, or batch processing
- Design educational apps for teachers and students to collaborate in real time
