Gᴇɴᴇʀᴀʟ Pᴇʀᴍɪssɪᴏɴs
part i.
Character name: Jules Grumley
Fandom: Original (Monsters!verse)
Species: hybrid (monster & human blood)
Character powers:
Jules is a hybrid, meaning that she's part human and part monster. The more general abilities that come with her hybrid heritage are:

• enhanced strength & endurance
• accelerated healing
• enhanced speed & reflexes
• resilience against exhaustion and sickness

Their skin is warmer to the touch than that of a human. Additionally, most monsters and some hybrids have particular abilities. Jules' is contact-based emotional manipulation and empathy, to a degree where she can try to judge if a person is 'good' or 'bad' - which isn't always easy. She can't read specific thoughts, but she can definitely pick up their emotions loud and clear, and dark, dangerous things within them, be it bad things they've done in the past, motivations or a squiggly demon. This ability allows her to read and warp emotions as she sees fit, but she needs physical contact - not necessarily flesh-on-flesh - to be able to read or manipulate anything.

Monster blood is a pretty messed up thing, and while having it does grant powers there are also significant downsides.

• need to consume human flesh
• need for violence
• risk of losing yourself to the monster

It's not simply the need for flesh, but the violence of the act to quell the monster part of them. If a hybrid tries to deny their monster part, then they get very sick and weak, sometimes hallucinate - they may even go berserk and temporarily lose control of themselves, causing more damage than would have occurred otherwise. Jules need is massively watered down from the monsters and, indeed, most hybrids; monsters eat people all the time, and more concentrated hybrids may need to eat people once a month, Jules 'only' needs to have them three or four times a year.

part ii.
1.) Is it acceptable for your character to be mind-controlled or persuaded? How susceptible are they to mind control, hypnotism, or suggestion?
That is fine, although I'd prefer if we could discuss it first just to make sure we're on the same page.

Jules' own abilities are emotional manipulation, so she might be more resistant to things of that nature, but I'd be very game to discuss and plot something. There's no reason to assume she's going to be able to resist unless she's in fight mode, so to speak, unless her monster side were to be riled up and put up some resistance. I am totally up for plotting successful emotional manipulation, or an experience with the monster making things difficult, whichever appeals.

2.) Is it acceptable for your character to have their mind read? Does this include traumatic memories? What is their mind like?
Absolutely, but again, discussion to make sure we're on the same page for things not mentioned in narrative, etc, would be best.

Her mind is probably a slightly scary place; there's a divide, between the human side, the person she tries to be that's optimistic and hopeful, and then the monster mentality that she tries to keep very carefully contained. Straying into her mind could mean getting to see something violent, bloodthirsty and without conscience, as well as the friendly, well-intentioned woman that's always there for the world to see. There's some in-depth rambling on it over here.

3.) Are thoughts mentioned in narration acceptable for a telepath to pick up? Go for it!

4.) What about emotions, in the case of an empath? What sort of general emotional reading would such a character receive from yours?
Jules general state is one of trying to convey and embrace optimism and happiness, but in reality there's a lot of things that make her sad. She feels a pretty intense degree of self-loathing, and at the present time would be suffering some depression, even if she manages to seem happy and upbeat. At times she can be genuinely happy, too, and she does care a lot; feel free to ask if you'd like detail on what she's like at a specific time!

5.) Are there any aspects of your character's mind, emotions, or memories you would like to be picked up, mentioned, or used in character? Conversely, is there anything that should not be noticed, or at least never mentioned?
I'd be open to exploring lots of things, actually! I think it could be fun. Her relationship with Emilia and her twins is very important, and something that would be very easy to pick up because she thinks about her a lot. Some things that might be noted are her pretending to be human, the dark presence in her mind, internal conflict, potential for affection, fear and love of humans. Anything mentioned in her background is fair game, really, and that is located over here.

For the time being I'd like to stay away from her dietary needs becoming known, although it could definitely be something to play with down the road once she's had a chance to become established in-game.

part iii.
1.) Physically speaking, what stands out about your character? Imposing size? Physical scarring? Tattoos?
Jules is only about 5'6”. She does have some scars, one of which is similar to a partial handprint and looks burnt into her skin, wrapping over her shoulder right by her neck. It's an awkward spot to keep covered, so your character might catch sight of part of it pretty easily. She has other scars, but those are smaller and generally less visible.

When her monster nature presents itself, she's quite different. Her eyes go black, her mouth seems to become crowed with sharp, dangerous teeth. Her voice might even change, and basically sounds really creepy.

2.) Is your character immune to any of the following: poisons, chemical agents, telekinetic influence, radiation, or types of illnesses?
Hybrids are physically stronger and generally more resistant to things that effect humans, however Jules could well be vulnerable.

Poisons don't effect monsters, but since Jules is only quarter-blood, I'd say that depending on the strength, they could definitely knock her around a bit even if they weren't lethal. The same for chemical agents and radiation. They would effect her, but she would be more resistant than a human and able to recover faster. Illnesses generally have a hard time getting a grip on her, but again, it's still possible.

I want to avoid any issues with her being too strong/tough/etc, so I am totally up for her getting messed up by something – she might just bounce back a little better and more quickly than most.

3.) Is your character physiologically different from a human in any way?
Her father is a hybrid, meaning she has monster genetics as well as human. She looks like a human in every way, although her skin is much warmer to the touch. It wouldn't burn, or anything, but she's like a hot water bottle with legs.

The overall result is her strength/speed/etc, mentioned in powers, and there can be temporary changes to her appearances, also mentioned above – namely her eyes sometimes turn black, and rarer still, her mouth will seem crowded with dangerously sharp teeth. Most of the physiological differences wouldn't be be obvious if she's just having a normal day.

4.) Are you amenable to having your character be harmed in any way? How far are you comfortable with injury to you character going? Does this include being fed on by vampires, willingly or unwillingly?
Anything short of permanent maiming or death, really! That said, I'd be open to both of those in certain situation - I just don't want to traumatise her at the drop of a hat, so to speak, but I am interested in exploring these things if they come up as part of a developed plot. If you aren't really sure and want to double check, drop me a line. I'm most likely to be up for anything, but discussion is always awesome.

I am game for her being fed on by vampires, willingly or unwillingly, but she has demon blood. It could taste gross, depending on the vampire in questions taste, or it could have adverse effects. She's also strong, so she'd put up a serious fight.

5.) Is it acceptable for other characters with abilities of shapeshifting or disguise to imitate your character? Does this include ability mimicry?
I am fine with this! It sounds fun :')

part iv.
1.) Can your character's presence or aura be noticed by other characters, and how would it look/feel to them? How would it manifest to a character with no supernatural abilities, if at all?
Yes! It would probably be a mixture of nice and horrible, to be honest. Often the good stuff dominate the monster, but if she's using her monster abilities at the time, then there will be something inherently sickening and terrifying about it. Most of the time, however, it'd be nice, feel good and maybe be sort of like a nice spring day-- but with just something kind of off about it, even if it wasn't readily apparent.

2.) Can your character be affected by magic spells and curses?
Yes! I'd rather discuss first if it would be god moddy somehow, but I am up for pretty much anything otherwise! And I'd quite likely be fine with god moddy stuff, I just like to make sure we're on the same page with things like that. Any spells and curses would be really fun, though.

3.) Can your character be affected by sin and corruption, and be tempted toward expressing their darker urges (of whatever flavor)?
She can, Jules has to fight to suppress the violent urges of the monster, so temptation and impulse control can be a problem for her, even though she does her utmost to always keep the monster at bay. She'll fight giving in to violence or the wrathful nature of the monster as best she can, but it could be really interesting to play with all that.

4. What sort of sins is the character prone toward, and how might they best be tempted, if you are interested in such an event?
Jules is fairly vulnerable to lust. Typically this would mean sleeping with Emilia, but they've been force separated for a while, so it's possible that she could give into that, in the right scenario.

Wrath and vengeance would be the ones that the monster is most inclined towards, and ones that Jules dips into at times later in her timeline in order to make herself stronger. Gluttony would also feature.

5.) Are you amenable to the character receiving prophetic visions, including as part of a plot?
Yes!

part v.
1.) Is canon-puncturing or fourth-walling acceptable?
No, I'd rather avoid any scenario where Jules found out she was fictional.
Reference to her looking like other characters played by her own PB, Sophia Bush, is fine.

2. Is threadjacking allowed? Under what circumstances?
Yes, although not if another player and I have something specific that we are aiming towards with a thread or if it is private. If you aren't sure, just check with me, but I am usually up for it. Threadjacking in moderation, I guess – it can be really fun, but if it happens all the time then I personally get a little over it.

3. Is it acceptable for canonmates that are updated further than yours to inform your character of events yours has not yet experienced?
n/a

4. Are there triggering or upsetting topics you would like other characters to avoid mentioning to yours for the sake of continued comfort?
I am pretty much okay with anything coming up in-character, as long as there is a context for it and it is purely in-character. If I do get uncomfortable with something, I'll let you know and we can figure it out.

If you're not sure about diving right into sensitive topics, I'm happy to discuss it to work out what we're both comfortable with and where we'd like it to go to make sure we're both happy with the outcome and what topics might be touched.

Exᴛʀᴀ Qᴜᴇsᴛɪᴏɴs
ʙᴀᴄᴋᴛᴀɢɢɪɴɢ Sure thing! I love backtagging. If for some reason you just aren't feeling a thread anymore, that's fine too! It happens. Feel free to drop me a line and we can handwave and figure out what happened, if you like.

ʜᴜɢɢɪɴɢ Yes! She loves hugs! Unless things are weird or unnerving somehow, then she might be a bit more hesitant about hugging back, but normally it would be a good surprise.

ᴋɪssɪɴɢ Yeees? She might respond, although she'd hideously in love with someone from her home world, so she'd be a sad, guilty, twisty little mess.

ғʟɪʀᴛɪɴɢ Yes. She's not in any state for a relationship because she is in love with Emilia and has been for a long time, but flirting is harmless and fun.

ғɪɢʜᴛɪɴɢ Yes. Jules is a hybrid, so she has the powers detailed above. A fight with her could be really fun, although if you wanted it to get intense - which I am up for! - dropping me a line would be helpful for planning purposes.

ᴡᴀʀɴɪɴɢs
Her world has a lot of violence in it, and Jules' life has a lot of violence in it. Because she's a hybrid (more info below) there's a certain need for violence in her. She eats people, maybe three or four times a year, because she has to. If she doesn't, she could lose her mind and become a much more dangerous monster, likely to kill even more people. In her background she has been attacked and tortured because of what she is, and she's killed a lot of beings - human, hybrid and sulfur slaves - in the interests of her own survival. Her inner conflict could very well come up in prose where there are prompts for such introspection.

Pᴏᴡᴇʀ-Rᴇʟᴀᴛᴇᴅ Pᴇʀᴍɪssɪᴏɴs
Can she use empathy on your character?
(This requires contact, and allows her to feel what they feel and discover what kind of person they are. She wouldn't know specific thoughts, but she can definitely pick up their emotions loud and clear and dark, dangerous things within them, be it bad things they've done in the past, motivations or a squiggly demon. )

If yes, what would she feel?

Can she use emotional-manipulation on your character?
(She uses this to tip fights to her advantage, overwhelming her opponent with emotions or twisting what they feel to turn it against them.)

If yes, are there any limits or particular emotions you think would be interesting?

Can she attack with an intent to kill/consume or successfully kill/consume your character?
(This would only happen every few months, unless she was attacked and endangered in such as way that she went temporarily berserk or we devised some other reason. If you are interested, there would be no need to log this, it's gory and not everyones cup of tea, even if the character stuff leading up to and following might be fun. Conversely, I'd be happy to log it if you wanted! Near-misses are also okay.)

Are there any limits you'd like to put on this?
