A little randomness

- I saw Blake Lively this weekend. I recognized her even though I've never seen that show. She's actually ridiculously pretty.

- I'm babysitting my directors kids tomorrow night. Yes, the ones with Australian accents. They're adorable and I'm pumped.

- Everyone who's read my opening scene has compared me to Beckett. It's kind of weird...maybe I should switch to plays ;)

Has anyone seen "Mirrormask"? I'm watching it now.

I'm embarassed for the Lakers

I'm a Celtics fan. I want them to win. This? It's getting uncomfortable to watch. I was hoping for a tight game with maybe a win in the last few minutes. This is a massacre. I am happy we're going to win (as happy as the fact that we won the year of my brith ;)) and I will celebrate tomorrow during the hectic post-shoot wrap, but for the moment I'm just kind of shifting uncomfortably on my couch.

Photoshop Programs

A call out to all my smart friends...ok you're all probably smarter than me on this one.

I have a new computer. Got it for myself for xmas and now...I have no photoshop equipment except for what came with the computer which isnt' very good. I'm used to Paintshop Pro (8) which was good even if not the best. I miss graphics and I miss making icons. Help!

1) I forget the free one you can download. Fill me in please?

2) Are there good programs that don't cost much? Do they all take up a ton of space on a computer?

Any and all babble on this topic is so very appreciated.

I'm even going to use one of my own icons to celebrate the occasion (oh hush, I was never very good).

Meme

A meme...which should help those of you who can't follow myself after LJ and may have thought that I died last year.

Copied:

You know how sometimes people on your friend's list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you *should* already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy mine below, erase my answers putting yours in their place then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration! One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out :)

1. First Name: Dorothée...pronounced like Doratay in the US (I won't even try to type the French accent and how it sounds)

2. Age: 23 until October

3. Location: Brooklyn, on an oil spill by a sewage plant. You think I'm joking?

4. Occupation: Telephone monkey. Aka Office Manager (hopefully a coordinator in not too long) for a commercial production company. Yep, we film those lovely 15-30 second ads on TV. The good ones.

5. Partner?: Partner is strong but I'm with Nick and have been for 1.5 years. That's the sum up.

6. Kids: No no no! I can barely cover rent right now. I do like names though ;)

7. Brothers/Sisters: Only child. Well I apparently have a half-brother somewhere in Europe but I've never met him so he doesn't count.

8. Pets: My first pet on my own! Loki, whose a 3-year old Tuxedo kitty. The most talkative cat you'll ever meet. He used to be a big scaredy cat (har har) when I got him. Apparently the other cats used to beat him up. But now, after 7 months without other felines, he's starting to get bossy. He also is obssessed with laser toys. He'll follow that red dot anywhere.

9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:
Um...?

1) My job: Takes up a lot of my time. Would like to move up but I don't think they'll be an opening for a while. Looking around but it's hard to convince outside companies to promote you and I'll only switch for a promotion.

2) My online class: Screenwriting. It's giving me a good kick in the pants. I wish I'd picked a different idea to go forward on but it's still farther than I've gotten before. I'm hoping my motivation will stay with me afterwards.

3) The boy: Sounds pathetic but it's true. I've never had a relationship that really worked and made me happy. I hope this one lasts but for now I'm going to just try and enjoy it.

10. Parents? Mom. Raised by her. She's a good doobie even if overly emotional. Wish we lived closer to each other (she's in Maine).

11. Who are some of your closest friends? Um, I don't want to use their names lol. I only have a handful of friends, but they are good friends.

I have all my icons again!!

Actually I need to clear some out...and fill in some vacancies. But I have capacity again! I just need to get internet at home so I can start saving and not use my work computer. Bad me.

Also I filled out that MASH meme that's been going around and it turne dout pretty sweet but since I stupidly used the boy's full name I'm not going to post it. Instead I'll summarize: Living in a house in Nice (France) with a purple sting ray convertible. My living? A scriptwriter! Oh yeah baby. The downside? 13 kids. Now really! I am not popping out that many kiddos no matter how cute they are. And I'm not Angelina Jolie - I cannot possibly afford to adopt and take care of my own small country.

Writing Rant (sort of)

Writing for an online class is really hard. It's my critique week and I hate that I can't respond (yet). This is like creative writing when everyone in the room got to babble about your piece and ask questions but you weren't allowed to respond to anything until there were five minutes left. It's EVIL.

Granted, we haven't done much writing yet. This is just our story map. Because unlike short stories or novels, you can't meander your way through it and not care how long it is. Oh no, you have to plan it all and hope somewhere along the lines your creativity can shine through again.

But all the critiques now can say are...well I want to know about this? How about we entirely restructure it so this happens? Etc. And while that's great, it's not always relevant. Like, ok, I can talk about the father, but he's not so important that he's going to show up in the synopsis, sorry. Take your daddy issues somewhere else.

And also, I realize that my main character is suicidal, but that doesn't mean that her dad was an abusive alcoholic and her mother is a drug-addicted whore. She can have normal parents. People can get t low points because of major events without everyone in their life being a monster.

On the other hand, every single critique has been in love with my premise. Yay! Cause it's about all I have right now, lol. Even the woman who says she hates fantasy says she really liked it and wants to read more.

That's right it's a fantasy with a suicidal girl. If you can figure out my plot, I'll be very impressed.

Back from the Dead

Is June too late to have a New Years resolution? Yes? Dang, well, I will try to be better about LJ. I do miss people and I've probably lost half my friends list after disappearing.

So a quick sum up of my life right now:

1) Still in the same job. Office manager in a commercial production company.

2) Taking an online screenwriting class - about 8 more weeks to go.'

3) Volunteer on Saturdays with an animal rescue group - love my doggies!

4) Just at the end of 2 weeks of tonsillitis.

5) On a bit of a Bollywood kick right now. It's fun!

6) I have a total craving for dumplings right now.

Question of the day: What's one of your favorite guilty pleasure movies?

Hola

Tomorrow starts my first vacation in over a year!! And I'm taking a massive two days off!! But I'm pumped. I'm going home. My mom's birthday was Tuesday so it's really for her. Plus the Telluride Festival (they take 6 movies from the big Telluride festival and bring it to Portsmouth) is going on and my mom and I will be attending - 6 films! Woo! I will probably harass you with my reviews as well. I think the guy has a crush on Nicole Kidman though, he picks one of her films every year. Oh and the Bob Dylan movie! Yes, the one where he's played by several people including the amazing Cate Blanchett. I look forward to seeing how that turns out.

And tonight I have some screening/cocktail party to go to. It's work related and the films are shorts by commercial directors. Not sure if I'm looking forward to it or not but I feel I should go. It doesn't go very late anyway...still time to head home and double check the packing.

Also, I randomly decided that if I wrote a biography screenplay it would be on Louise Brooks. Probably no company would buy it since she's sadly not as well known as she should be but...sexy original flapper?! Maybe I could send to a famous actress instead ;)

Hello World,

I'm terrible at the LJ bit these days. I make no promises for the future but here is an update from me:

1) Just finished three days of seminars (on how to be a production coordinator). Informative but I don't want to be a freelancer which is what it's aimed at. I want to be an in-house production coordinator wich is a totally different set of skills and tasks, It's good to knwo though but man am I exhausted. I still had work those days and then went to the seminars directly after.

2) I will be going back home to Maine for a long weekend next week...the first time I've been home since I moved to NYC (over a year)! Alsos my first vacation!

3) I'm so annoyed at how many Bollywood films are not on Netflix...and the one I most want to see is not available anywhere I've looked. *sadface*

4) Fall is coming!! My favorite season, hurrah!

5) So excited for teh Telluride festival. Go figure that I leave NYC to go to my first film festival. :)

Hope all is well with everyone and that someone out there is still reading...otherwise I'll happily babble to myself!

Or Up and over rather. We're going to be4 huge dorks and have a museum day. We're going to the Natural History Museum (they have a mythological exhibit right now) and if there's time we'll go to the Met too. It'll be nice to see a friend and relax a little.

Other random bits:

1) My mom's in France and I'm jealous and miss her. The high schoolers are there right now so I don't miss that bit too much ;) But this year she'll be wandering around the country afterwards especially Brittany and Normandy! It's her last school trip though. I better get a move on and win the megabucks so we can go again.

2) The boys is leaving to - for Georgia. Not as jealous about that. lol

3) I officially have no roommate again at the end of the month. This officially leaves me in a hell hole...and with few people around anymore *sigh* Maybe I should have gone to Boston, I know so many people there.

4) Job is still going strong. Summer is high season though and all these things are shooting in NY so the office is crazy!

5) I love green tea tempura ice cream!

"Burton on Burton" is a fantastic read. I'm so absorbed with this book and trying very hard not to read it at work...sort of succeeding. Also, there's a forward by Johnny Depp which just cements how much I love this man.

I can't believe I brought my real parents to our wedding.

That was quote number 1 from my little quiz and it's from "Mr. and Mrs. Smith". I liked that movie more than I thought I would but I still wasn't very impressed. There are 99 movies left to guess so if you haven't attempted it yet, please do!

Also:
1) I am loving this weather. Spring is so definitely here and I'm loving every moment. On the other hand, I need more spring clothes but I have no idea where to shop here. I realize that sounds ridiculous, to not know where to go to shop in NYC, but it's true.

2) I will never understand guys. Love them yes. Get them? Hell no.

3) My mom and my guy are leaving for a month this summer at the same time. I'm going to be a sad panda. I suppose I should meet more people in the city. But how? And who? There are a lot of sketchy people here.

4) I love Archipelago Botanicals...first they had this amazing milk bath stuff, and the rice soap, and now they have candles that actually fill up my apartment!

5) A mouse died in our apartment building. Everything smells nasty and nobody can find said mouse. Thank god for the adorementioned candle.

6) I really want a dog. My mom keeps tempting me too by tellin gme about the new dogs that have come into the shelter. And when I hear the horror stories of how they were treated before it makes me one one even more. And my landlord would let me have one. I just feel like it would be cruel when I'm away from the apartment so long on week days, and I don't earn enough for a puppy daycare.

Play with me!

In celebration of making it halfway through my goal of 100 new movies this year (ok, apparently I should have aimed higher), I'm going to plpay a game with you. And yes, there may be a prize...but no cheating!! (This is both searching for the quotes and goign through my old posts since I listed most of these films)

I'm going to list one quote from each of the 50 movies I've seen. It's your job to guess the movies! Comments will be screened so everyone has an equal chance.

Here we go:
1. I can't believe I brought my real parents to our wedding.
2. You know, you're the first chick I ever met with the shell still on.
3. Sometimes you just need the honesty and security of a whore.
4. God doesn't rob banks!
5. Did you make a speech like that the night you beat your wife?
6. Of course, you won't be able to lie on your back for a while but then you can lie from any position, can't you?
7. That must be the first 50 in the history of village cricket.
8. I wasn't tractor tippin'!
9. I'm a cynical man, God knows... but if your manifestations are somehow real... then even I'm willing to admit, you're a very special person. And if it's a trick, then it's equally impressive. Either way, you have a gift. So don't make me put you in jail!
10. It's injustice I hate, not the Normans.
11. [peeling an apple] If I don't break the peel, Menech is alive.
12. You are not a human being, Lola. You are an epidemic.
13. Wait... Didn't Snow White have SEVEN dwarves? (If someone gets this I'll be so impressed)
14. To bait fish withal: if it will feed nothing else, it will feed my revenge.
15. Sleeping in the streets and pulling out their hair for someone they never knew. And they think we're mad!
16. You're a very nosy fellow, kitty cat. Huh? You know what happens to nosy fellows? Huh? No? Wanna guess? Huh? No? Okay. They lose their noses.
17. Tonight, these men were drawn to that altar like it was a fire in the middle of winter. Even those who aren't devout came to warm themselves.
18. I don't believe a man can consider himself fully content until he has done all he can to be of service to his employer
19. In Sicily, women are more dangerous than shotguns.
20. No. He won't even know your name.
21. Is there anything that you have done that is good, Nicholas? You came to Africa to play the white man. But we aren't a game. We're real. This room is real. Your death will be the first real thing that has happened to you.
22. Tell me that you love me first because I'm afraid that if I tell you first you'll think that I'm playing the game.
23. Letting everyone down would be my greatest unhappiness.
24. When I was your age they would say we can become cops, or criminals. Today, what I'm saying to you is this: when you're facing a loaded gun, what's the difference?
25. I find everyone's pain amusing, except my own... I'm French!
26. So let me get this straight; I'm gonna OD on nail polish, and Ian is gonna be embarrassed to death?
27. You write "Born to Kill" on your helmet and you wear a peace button. What's that supposed to be, some kind of sick joke?
28. I have 94 per cent recall of all conversation. I tested it myself.
29. I was jinxed from the word go. The first time I was ever kissed was in a cemetery.
30. - My mom said Mexico is dangerous.
- Yes, it's full of Mexicans.
31. Things don't always go as planned, Mr. Angier. That's the beauty of science.
32. This may sound like gibberish to you, but I think I'm in a tragedy.
33. We all want to forget something, so we tell stories. It's easier that way.
34. You're gonna knock over a bank with a Magic Marker? What are you gonna do, write on 'em?
35. Wouldn't it be a little too much if we both grinned at her like idiots.
36. He said now you won't have to work so hard to make people think you've been in jail.
37. It's for me.
38. Ok this one had no quotes and I can't think of one so this one's a give away: "L'Avventura"
39. What do you think of farmers? You think they're saints? Hah! They're foxy beasts!
40. The past is right here. It's right here.
41. Just a moment. I hear people wanting something... ME!
42. I don't know, but I think what I've got is something slightly resembling... GUMPTION!
43. In America, it's bling bling. But out here it's bling bang.
44. What I do not give, you must never take by force.
45. Mr. Kinnoch, I beg you to accept that there is no people on Earth who would not prefer their own bad government to the good government of an alien power.
46. I'll be waiting for you.
47. It's OK. She's got her toothpaste.
48. It smells of... farts, my mother's farts.
49. "Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont" (sadly without quotes as well)
50. No, Toto. Nobody said it. This time it's all me. Life isn't like in the movies. Life... is much harder.

Ok, so they're not all the most brilliant quotes but some I chose because I thought they'd be the most useful, and others I just like...and some just had very few to choose from. I admit fully that I cheated and took them off imdb.com

*poke*

Yeah, I definitely disappeared again. Sorry! That is if anyone still reads this...

But I'm settling into my job pretty well. I'm starting to put the bits and pieces of production together in my head. I got my first paycheck this weekend!! Woo. I sort of feel like an adult now.

Only my computer at home has finally spazzed out and I can't get it to work long enough to do anything, not even to save my files so I can transfer them to another computer.

So it looks like the good old credit card is going to come in handy this month. Problem is that I really don't know that much about computers.

If anyone can give me any advice on buying a computer, I'd really appreciate it!

I'll try and be better on here from now on....provided I get a working computer ;) Yay for internet at work!
