I spent two weeks in New Zealand three years ago on a choir trip. We stayed with host families there and had the best time and met the best people and it breaks my heart that this is happening to them and I have no way of knowing if they're okay or not and this is me, trying to do my bit to help.

If anyone knows of anything like this for Libya/other regions in need of assistance, please feel free to share here.

This is probably because whenever I post about my dog, it's late at night and Kenji sleeps in my bed. But this is my other puppy. His name is Tucker and he is very, very happy.

So I found out that Kali pt 3 was free on iTunes (YAY!!!!) so now I'm trying to figure out how to do screen captures (and the typical shift-command-3 business won't even work for individual scenes when I play the video in iTunes...all I get is a nice white and gray checkered screen where my video is).
My dad is hilarious

So ever since my dad discovered the Internet/facebook/youtube, his mind has just been...

He's on facebook all the time, but is starting to branch out from there. Today alone, he spent about half an hour googling graduate programs for me to apply to (because he doesn't like any of the programs I'm applying to myself). Then he spent hours searching Youtube for a video tutorial on how to make the perfect roast beef. He found one and is making it for dinner.

My papa is seriously the best.

eta: He's also obsessed with those e*trade baby commercials. Whenever they come on, he cracks up. It's pretty great.

Sanctuary Season 3 UK Trailer!!!!

<lj-embed id="6" />

I'm sorta bummed that Kate isn't really as present in this trailer as much and it makes me question whether her role is really that limited this season (although in the US trailer, if I recall correctly, Henry's almost as invisible as Kate and in this one he's got quite a few scenes/you can actually hear him speak). And I haven't seen any Kate in the camping/spelunking/snow scenes but hopefully she's there?

But I'm still super excited and I can't wait!!!!

Was helping baby sister with her homework (reading James Madison! Whoo! And she needed my help getting through all of Federalist No. 10), missed Undercovers, but am starting it now!! I am excited!

Will possibly update with thoughts on the pilot?

I already find both leads utterly charming and based on the past five minutes, I will continue watching for these two alone.

"Did you just say my husband's a legend?" hahaha.

"Are you robot? Are you half robot?"

lol at this entire scene. "It takes a honeymoon to buy me a rose?" "Do you feel like breaking into a bank with me???

Verdict: A nice show! I really enjoyed the pilot, although the middle section felt particularly rushed, rushing from country, to country, to country and then bam! It would have been much better if the pilot had been two hours rather than one. But the beginning and the end were really great. The two main character are the best part of the show and they alone would have had me coming back next week. An overarching storyline would be nice, though, but I think that was already hinted at in that one scene with Shaw talking on the phone. Overall I'm really excited about this show and I hope that next week's episode will be even better!

It's a little hard to believe that the Pentagon and the World Trade Center attacks happened nine years ago. It feels like a lifetime has passed between then and now. The world has changed so much in the interim, the United States is almost unrecognizable from then to now. Sometimes it feels more like decades have passed. But I can clearly remember every detail from that day.

In 2001, I was twelve and living in Japan because my dad was stationed there. On Wednesday, September 12 at 6:00 am, my dad came into my room to turn off my alarm clock. It woke me up, and I remember being groggy and confused when I asked him what was going on. I remember his voice being urgent, like he was in a hurry and he told me, "You don't have school today. Go back to sleep. America's been attacked." The only thing I'd really processed at that point was that my dad had said I didn't have school, so I went back to sleep. When I woke up three hours later, I went downstairs and saw my sister sitting on the couch, staring at the tv and just crying. I looked at what she was watching and I saw the burning buildings and the smoke and I asked her, "What movie are you watching?" She looked at me and said, "This isn't a movie. This is real." We sat there for hours until my dad got home, watching the coverage, unable to really process what was really going on, the magnitude of what it was we were witnessing. It was terrifying. Even two days later, after the schools reopened and life on base resumed, things weren't exactly back to normal. Intermittently we'd see tanks rolling down the streets, or men with machine guns patrolling the gates. We weren't sure if the attacks on the World Trade Center were going to set off attacks on military bases overseas and for a while we lived with that fear hanging over our heads.

The fear is gone now, but the memory is something that will last forever. For the victims of September 11th, our troops who've died overseas and the casualties of this war, we salute you.

I am on a Sanctuary Will/Kate kick

And I just rewatched "Pavor Nocturnus" and just...every time I watch the part where Will talks about Kate/the team dying it's just so sad! I mean, it's all sad--it's a zombie apocalypse and everyone's dead, after all.

But when Helen asks, "And Kate?" and there's this pause, and the expression on his face is just so heartbreaking. The way the music changes is really great when Magnus brings up Kate is really effective, too. And I just love how Helen looks like she knows that she's stumbled on a sensitive subject and she looks kinda confused, but sad for him and it looks like she's about to say something, like that she's sorry before Will moves on to talk about Druitt. And I just think it's such a great scene and I really love how it was done and it really set up the whole Kate/Will baby thing really well and I just really, really love it.

Also, I am currently watching "Instinct" from S1 and I really like it, but I'm also getting really dizzy.
and lol forever. the camera man asking Ashley out is one of the most adorably awkward conversations EVER.
and omg, Ashley's special locking skills are so impressive.
WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GOOOOOOOOOOO?????
Zach is awesome.
Henry is also awesome.
I had a major happy when Ashley said she'd go out with Zach, and now I have a major sad :(
Lol at Ashley's face when Amy kisses Henry. <strike>jealousy</strike>?
Just turned on "Fata Morgana," because you know, I just love watching things in order. Ashley is such. a. badass.

Kaleidoscope Heart

Sara Bareilles' new album, "Kaleidoscope Heart," is streaming online (HERE if anyone is interested) and I am in love. I haven't listened to all if it yet, but I love ALL of it so far. Some particular faves include "Hold My Heart," "Machine Gun," and "Let The Rain" but all of it is just so good and I am excited for Sept. 7, when I can buy it!

<lj-embed id="5" />

Today

So today I saw Lea Salonga, aka the singing voice of Princess Jasmine and Mulan and Kim from Flower Drum Song and the first Asian woman to ever portray Eponine and Fantine in Les Miserables on Broadway, and pretty much the person I wanted to BE when I grew up. Her voice is just amazing. Although I only got to see/hear her sing the national anthem and God Bless America, it was still amazing and a dream come true and I just really want to hear her sing forever. All in all, Lea Salonga + Baseball = a wonderful day.

<lj-embed id="4" />

eta: so my sister and I were discussing her paper and all of a sudden she got RAGEY about something and it was just wonderful. I'm so proud! I think I'm rubbing off on her...

Dear Fic

Prepare to be written. Because I've procrastinated on EVERYTHING ELSE in an attempt to finish you (at least, the first chapter of you) so please cooperate and just come out already.

Also, still adjusting to the new haircut. My hair wasn't super long, which I guess is why cutting a good 4-5 inches off is quite a change. I keep trying to tie it back, but it is not long enough to form any sort of pony tail.

ETA: Problem solved. Tiny, tiny pigtails. Onto the fic....
